It's supposed to get a bit nasty up this way as well. I figured I'd use up some of our fridge stuff today, just in case we lose power and the stuff goes bad. I used up the rest of the eggs and baked a chocolate cake. I know, I know, kind of useless as survival food. No worries, my family will never know of my silliness because they're not home and I ate the evidence.
Seriously though, with the Emerald Ash Borer doing so much damage the past year, it's not going to be pretty when the winds pick up. The city just recently cut down all the dead/dying ash trees on city property, but there are still a LOT on private property. I'm hoping my neighbours tree stays the heck off of my house.
It IS always such a good idea to be prepared though. We have all our camping gear and supplies stored in the rec room. Has a nice wood-burning stove down there. We still need to get a back-up electrical thingy so we can run the fireplace insert fan, that way the whole house gets heated. But it'll do for now. We keep all our stuff in labelled bins, including spare camping food (dehydrated meals) and food/water for the dogs.
