I am about 1/2-3/4 of mile from LI Sound straight out my front door. The homes on the opposite side of the road from me (mostly beach community) have a mandatory evac.

I'm pretty high up so am not to worried about the water, more wind damage:( Plan on sticking it out, there's no way I'd leave my 3 dogs/4 cats and chickens..

Stay safe everyone

We are ready. I'm supposed to meet my counselor in the morning for coffee, but it'll depend on how bad it is at that point. Other than that I think I'm going to stay holed up in my basement.

Whoa, I probably wave at your house from the beach/boat all summer long.

Still can't tell if they're overhyping this or not. All hurricane shelters here in NYC allow pets, which is a plus. I'm also less worried about flooding than wind damage...right before I was born Gloria ripped the roofs off the houses on my street.

Got the call that schools are closed tomorrow. We're ready here. Plenty of batteries and candles. Bags of ice in the chest freezer, 16 gallons of fresh drinking water, both cars have fuel, cell phones are charged.

Stay safe all!

Hubby forgot to get gas, lol. And our bathtub leaks... so it won't stay full. Sigh. Schools are closed until Wednesday here. So now we wait..

Oh the town next to us decided to do a curfew, sort of, no traffic after 6pm...

The storm is scary because it's mixing with a snowstorm right? Because otherwise I would tell you guys to relax a little, a category 1 isn't that scary normally. I hope all of you guys are prepared for whatever though, stay safe!

It's because of WHERE it's hitting... we never get hurricanes, we aren't prepared for them like you are :p

but yes, since we are north, it'll become snow problems

We're on watch just in case here in Ottawa, but honestly it's going to hit southern Ontario much harder than here. Forecasts are predicting rain and higher-than normal winds here... that's pretty much it, but folks are prompted to stay tuned.

Keeping all of you in my thoughts. :) Sounds like you're all well-prepared!

Sort of...but we won't get snow right on the east coast. It's scary here because...we're on an island, plus no one here has any kind of hurricane shutters or anything. Houses here aren't built like they're built down south.

Plus, it has a lot to do with how the tides are going, how the storm is meeting up with other storms, etc. It's not just that it's a Cat 1 storm, but a bunch of other factors. A hurricane hasn't hit a low pressure system here since the early 1900s, when 500 people died. Tides will already be higher than normal because of an unusual moon/sun alignment. Plus, we just lost all of our leaves, clogging drainage systems, gutters, etc. It's also expected to hit 3 of the biggest US cities and cause billions of dollars in wind damage, plus leave a ton of businesses out of power for over a week. We've also never (I don't think) had a storm hit us straight from over the water, it always comes in down south and then moves north, which weakens the storm first.
