Thats funny the vet techs at my vet tell me just the opposite. They say pit bulls are the best dogs to treat because nothing really rattles them. They are the calmest patients.

There are probably more breeds that I wouldn't have then what I would have.

Top on my list are labs- I just haven't had good experiences with them. All I have met have been hyper, nippy, and very aggressive. I have been told that this is not supposed to be the norm.

Then, poodles. I just don't like the way they look. My mom thinks poodles are great- smart, don't shed, etc.

Hounds- the smell, and the difficulty in training. Although, I think basset hounds are SO CUTE! I also love the look of blood hounds.

Other then that, I'm fairly game for most breeds.

I love the look of bull terriers, malamutes, and pit bulls. Ironically, most of the pit bulls I've met have been friendlier then the labs.

I did not mean to offend anyone I just simply would not own some I am not saying that they are bad dogs, I just prefer not to own them, isn't what this forum was titled?? I think there are exceptional dogs in every breed and if raised right they make awesome pets, but that was my 2 cents worth you can take it or leave it.

I think I misunderstood your post - I thought you meant that all dogs in that breed were no good :p

I've been staying away from this thread for a reason I just remembered lol

Hey gaddy, I see your post that you wouldnt have a Westie, they do get bad press for being barky and easily distracted. I am the proud owner of one and can honestly say that he is a brilliant dog to own. In the past I have been a collie and lab lover but i live in a flat now so couldnt consider a bigger dog. I was so surprised at how clever my Westie Archie is, yeah he tries to get his own way, but they all try that one dont they, lol. I never thought I would have a Westie but he has surprised me big time and I can honestly say that I wont have any other dog. I know each to their own and thats brill but its all in the upbringing eh. What I will say tho if some is looking for a small lap dog then the Westie no matter how cute he looks is not the one. They are very independent and need a lot of walking. If I want a cuddle its tough luck till he wants one from me. He truely doesnt know he is a small dog. They are forever busy and always up to something. Dont dismiss them cos Archie has brought more to my life than I thought was possible.

Hey candace loves pebbles, you are a prime example of what I mean about what you hear about different breeds. Folks think wee dogs are yappy and spoilt, folks thing staffies and pit bulls are vicious. Dont listen to any of it, every staffie I have ever known is the softest, kindest dog you will come across, but I will say its all up to how they are brought up. Wee dogs are all yappy but again its all down to how they are brought up. If you let a dog get yappy it will yap, if you bring ANY dog up bad then it will have issues, just we would. My best friends staffie is scared of my Westie!!!!! All dogs that are trained and loved make perfect pets. Dont believe any muck that you read, like you say your neighbours staffie is a softie, they are brilliant dogs and I hate the bad press they get.

Huh, I could've sworn I'd responded to this post months ago!! Oh well!

Breeds I can't see myself owning include:
JRT's - TOO MUCH. I don't think I could handle the go-go-go all the time. My aunt has two and I just don't know HOW they do it! Cute lil things though, when they sit still!
Afghan hound - They're too... aloof for me.
Boston terriers - I've only met two that I truly liked. Just not something I'd want to live with.
Whippet and Italian Greyhound - too skinny, I don't mind them when other people have them, but I couldn't own one myself.
Shar Pei - just not a fan. They're sweet, from what I've met, but not my thing.
and shorthaired drooly dogs. I don't mind drool in and of itself (I want a Newfie, I can handle the drool) but I can't stand it on short haired dogs! It doesn't have anywhere to go, and it just... strings! Ick.

Now, if any of these dogs were to turn up at my doorstep, I wouldn't be able to turn them away! But I wouldn't *choose* to own them.

I love dogs that are somewhat cat like but still very loyal (Akita, Tibetan Mastiff) and dogs that love to run around and have a good time (most dogs on the planet) so there really isn't a breed I would absolutely snub.

I have nothing against toy breeds, but they tend to need lots of ongoing grooming. By grooming I don't mean a good comb or teeth brushin' either. I mean professional stuff that will make my wallet play the blues.

Labs aren't supposed to be that way at all. It's bad breeding. :(

I certainly think that Westies are adorable little dogs, with great temperaments, but I don't know if I'd want to own one. I like a dog that is more responsive towards a human when given a command, even with distractions. I have to disagree that it's all in the upbringing though...terriers are terriers, and even with proper training, they're still gonna have some terrier attitude :D I myself have a terrier, and I love her to death, even when she decides to act terrierish.

I wouldn't personally own anything that DOESN'T
a) DROOL!!!
b) Shed
c) Weigh less than 120 lbs
I love all breeds of dogs, but I am a giant breed lover. There really is nothing like hugging a dog that weighs more than you!!

I wanted a DDBX ( Turner and hooch) my husband said NO way to Drool.
I cant say I would not want to own any breed . i love them all and no matter what each one has a different personality that could make you say what he hell.

But Now as I turn 40-in I would prefer no breeds that require grooming to exist or drool or special needs ( snub nosed) or dogs on breed bans ( sorry the insurance company dropped us years ago for having a old Shepherd mix with no teeth) or small breeds because i live on a major road and my field fencing in the back is not good enough for small breeds.

I listed a Collie as top 3 breeds would like to own but would not want to deal with the matting and dont like the look of smooth coats..

As a breeder I would not own many of the rare breeds due to lack of breeding pool to choose from..

I can name allot of dogs i would never own vs breeds _but when it comes down to it lover of dogs can make you forget your list of do not owns once you get a lick to the face..

And if I was not a breeder I would not own a intact male of any breed.
I love neutered males and females spayed or not.

Well, while living in this house, I could never have a Poodle. I think they're cute(the toy poodles), but my dad absolutely hates them...(all sizes)??? I like golden retrievers, but I'd never own another one. I've been attacked numerous times by the one we had, and we had to have him put down (the shelter couldn't legally allow us to take him home). I always wanted a Rottie, but my friends have one, and he dug into my calf a few months back, and I now I can't stand to go to their house (it was pretty bad...) so I probably won't get one of those any time soon. I like almost all breeds of dogs, but there are some I wouldn't personally own. The only breeds of dog I DON'T like are the Brussels Griffon and the Pekingnese. I just don't like the look of them, or their yappy personalities. (maybe it was just the ones I've met?). Anyway, I know all dogs have separate personalitys, and I'm sure there are nice dogs of every breed. ;)

I made a mistake and I don't know how to edit, but in my last post I said anything that weighs less than 120 lbs, I meant that they had to weigh more, but I think that everyone knew what I meant!! So many people are weary about the drool thing, but for me it is part of having one of these magnificent beasts. I have a drool rag, and yes, I do have to wipe down the walls, and sometimes even the ceiling!! These drool machines are not for everyone, but for those who can handle it, it is a very small price to pay!!
