Amen. I am not a huge fan of little dogs but my Miley is so awesome. Everyone, regardless of their taste in dogs, falls hard for this little lady.
I know soooo many people that 'don't like little dogs' in real life like that.

Um.... yeah. My roomies boyfriend was one of those (he has a pit/bullmastiff) . The second he was in the apartment, he was petting Summer. And he carries her around and baby talks her.

My other roomie is the same way. She didn't ever want a little dog then we've had Summer. She calls her her 'second only to Bear' (Her flatcoat at home). And now she's told me she wants a big dog she can hug and use as a pillow and then a little dog she can hold from now on.

Then her father who she had warned me 'did not like small dogs' came over.... HE NEVER LET SUMMER GO! He carried her the entire time! It was soooo funny!

Summer does a lot of friend making though. She has such big ears that people start laughing at her then have to come meet her. And she loves everyone. She's never met a person she doesn't like.

Anything small and fluffy, except Papillions. They are winning me over. I met a Papillion mix a while ago.. OMG... I would have taken her home in an instant. :D I'm not a huge fan of small dogs as it is because I have to constantly bend over/sit down/get back up with them and it makes me dizzy, but also because I always step on them. They're small enough that I'd be worried about that. I got over it with the cats, though, so I figure I could with a dog, too. Oh, and the fluffy part is just because I'm not a huge fan of grooming, really, and most small dogs are badly bred and have sh!tty coats to begin with, which makes it harder to groom. But, once again, I got over that with Emma so I'm sure I wouldn't really have a problem.

A DA dog.... I won't rule out pitties in general, and not necessarily other DA breeds, but a DA individual is one that I'm not comfortable owning,so I'm not sure if I'll be seeking out typically DA breeds one day...

Most hounds, especially Beagles. Most of the herding group, probably, unless I suddenly develop an interest in herding.

Anything I couldn't take on long walks and rough and tumble with.

Anything I have to groom excessively on a weekly basis (daily is out straight away).

Just doing my toy dog owner duty and pointing out that that's all training that you mentioned. Toy dogs are trainable and can be trained not to yap or be aggressive.
I completely agree. Unfortunately, too many people who I've encountered that owned them, haven't done their duty in that department, and it's hard not to have a bad taste left in your mouth.

HOWEVER, 2 riding coaches I had for years each had a Papillons, and theirs were neither yappy, nor agrressive. They would be about the only exceptions I've encountered though unfortunately.

As the owner of an APBT, I definitely understand the "training to overcome stigma" thing.

I didn't mean to paint all toys with a broad brush. In the end, I just should have said they're not for me and left it at that. Or pointed out that I can be a klutz, and the poor buggers'd be doomed to be squished. ;)

I wouldn't own anything that is physically smaller than my cat - which rules out anything smaller than a terrier. *wink*

cant remember if I posted already or not, lol so I will anyways.

These being dogs/breeds I would never go out and search for a breeder of, not to say that if I found a shelter dog etc that I wouldnt adopt it if I felt it was the right do for me, lol. (if that made any sense)

I probably would never own a scent hound (sight hound, possibly), just too stubborn IMO for me.

Dogs with REALLY long fur or double coated breeds (not all, but like newfies and such), long fur being like maltese, yorkies, etc. As a groomer, I simply have enough dogs to brush and shave, etc. during the day that I just dont really want to come home and have to do it then also.

Probably wouldn't own a herding breed, just too intense, smart, and need too much mental and physical stimulation that I personally dont think I could give them.

Um other than that, anything is a possibility haha.

English Bulldog...and anything with a hard to care for coat. Very long prone to tangles..corded...missing.

Anything smaller than 15lbs...

Anything known to be nasty or snarky with people.

For me, any dog with a strong odor would be hard to live with. Even the Golden boy that I grew up with was a bit "strong" for me.

Also anything that sheds HORRIBLY would be hard, but I can deal with moderate shedding....especially if it's longer hair that's easier to clean up.

Yep...My husband is a changed man with Megan. He used to call toy breeds "rats", and he's totally in love with Megan. Sooooo funny.

Sorry for the double post...

That's one thing I love about the papillons. I don't know why but they don't smell like any other breeds I've had. Summer always smells good. :)

My husband has the opinion that all dogs smell bad, but even has to admit that Megan is odorless. (most of the time, lol)

Honestly, I don't think there is a breed of dog I would not be willing to try...in fact, I end up falling in love with most:rolleyes:.

But(always a but...right?) I could probably never own a Chi, or the breeds where their food and water seems to just stick to their faces(like shih tzus...the hair around their mouth always seem wet).

I also couldn't own something that comes in an all white kind of coat...reminds me of a grey horse...beautiful when clean, which is about 1% of the time;). To those that handle those all white dogs, I highly respect you:hail:

I've had dogs that don't smell, but Summer always smells GOOD. It's so weird. Even when she hasn't had a bath in a month or so. And everyone comments on it.

The other two don't smell good, they just don't smell doggy.

Yeah, I wouldn't describe Megan as smelling good, but she's "not doggy."

I can't say there is a dog i wouldn't own. But, personally, as a rule of "i don't want it stepped on..." any sort of toy. Our friend owns a miniature Pinscher which... I've almost stepped on on so many occasions. I love large dogs. Medium/large i love. but i really wouldn't say no to toy's im sure i could grow to love whatever i get, but for a safety reason, toys.

There isn't a general breed I can say that I wouldn't like to own, but there are many breeds I probably won't ever own for other reasons.

I probably will never own...

-most dominant, sharp, working breeds (akitas, dobermans, rottweilers,...)
-giant breeds (unless I am absolutely sure I have the physical means to get them into an automobile if they are hurt)
-breeds incapable of strenuous daily exercise

That's a good point about giant breeds. I love danes and newfs, but I wonder what I'd do if they were hurt and I needed to move them? I guess I'd call for help from a neighbor if my husband wasn't here, but I never thought of that?

Hmmmm...I suppose I'm safe with Megan, lol.
