quote from first postHello all ...

i have a male chow chow dog in about 2 years old ,
untill now everything was ok , it was very frendly dog , who used to do no harm to nobody .

in the past month the dog is just starting to attack everybody with no reason , it is frendlly all the time and very active ,

at what point did the first poster say this was a problem that had been on going, at what point did the poster say they got there dog from a BYB, you are extremely presumptious Manchester. possibly the chows that you have dealt with in the past came from a line with bad temperments? and as far as chows being soft with regards to pain that is ridiculous, I have known at least on chow that had a severely damaged tendon that although was a little grumpy and an obvious limp did not show signs of an injury. this problem has arisen in the last month, not everybody thinks aggression in dogs can be because of pain, they put it down to other factors. the poster would be better off going to a vet, having the dog checked out and from that point make a decision, I am absolutely fuming that you can get on your soap box sprouting this that and the other, as if your way is the only way. not everyone is prepared to up and euthanise their dogs without finding out the real reason, instead of what you would do and just go ahead get it done and be dammed if your right or wrong. personally if I was selling you a dog I would definately have second thoughts, as you seem to have the attitude things are disposable, and I would not like anyone that had one of my dogs give up on it at the first hurdle.

I'm just going to pop in here and ask cuz I've been wondering, I saw on an animal planet special( or at least discovery channel) that chows were bred for meat. But I had always heard they were fighting dogs like shar peis. So what is the truth? I hate no dog but I will admitt I've never met a nice chow but then again I've only met like three! I saw some gorgoues ones at a dog show once but they were not letting people near them so I took it as they were nippy. I couldn't imagine brushing all of that

In the Orient they ARE used for meat, along with any other type of dog.

Lea, ignore her!!!! She isnt worth it.

The breathing problems of Chows is why you have your "coyote" chows. Some breeders think the health of the chow is more important than your show look.
As for a Chow eatting you alive when it hurts......ask my husband what his best baby did when it was hit by a car? Bleeding and hurt, it stumpled it's way back to him. It died in his freakin' arms! It ate no one.

You are nothing more than a mean old hag. People actually got along on this board until you came along with all your wonderful wisdom. I question how you treat animals. If we were to come watch you care for animals, what would we find? If you treat animals the same way you treat people then no wonder you know so much about out of control dogs!
Lets just make a thread and name it "go ask the wiseone". I personaly think your all wind.
Oh please....how many Chows has your husband had experience with? Should I be mean and ask just how did the dog GET hit by a car? What I would LIKE to ask your husband is why was it out on the road???????

I treat people exactly the way they present themselves to me.
I have no patience for BRATS, regardless of age.

If you read my post, you must have missed the part where I said that Chows have FATTY throats. But that would have meant nothing to you anyway.

And for someone whose dogs are allowed on the road to get killed, I would not make snide comments about how others take care of their dogs, rofl. Kinda leaves you open to all kinds of insults, now, doesn't it? I have NEVER had a dog get hit by a car. I spent thousands of dollars so MY dogs have a safely fenced area in which to play.

Anyway, I am only replying because I noticed you were starting to get a little too big for your britches, so thought I would warn you before you end up showing your arse, heheheheheheheheh!!!!!

My goodness, how do you look yourself in the mirror at night? I sure hope you don't believe in GOD because you are going to have a lot to answer to if you do, remember how He said to love thy neighbor like thy brother...why don't you try a little kindness, it might do your heart good like in The Grinch Who Stole Christmas... nobody asks for you to be cruel Manchester so why don't you grow up, you appear to be the only school yard bully around here.

Manchester, I'm glad that you have the money to spend making a safe enclosure for your tiny dogs. It doesn't work for every breed. It is quite possible that the husband's Chow was out for a walk and yanked the leash out of his hands. I don't know, you don't know and I think it is rude and unfair to insinuate that the husband was a horrible owner because his dog was hit by a car. Sh*t happens and you know it. You had a dog die in Ivan, right? So how would you like it if someone said that you were a bad owner because it seemed like you didn't take good enough care of your dogs to make sure they were totally safe during a hurricane? I'm NOT accusing you of this, mind you, but I hope you understand my point.

Please no food fights!!! Manchester is like a see-saw .....Sometimes good advice and when she really has no answer , will post just to post. I mentioned many moons ago about a Chow that belonged to the owners of a barn where we boardered our horses. He was fine with me, but I took no chances. One day her adult son ( who grew up with the Chow ) was visiting and was taking a nap on the couch. She playfully swatted him on his bottom to tell him to get up. The Chow attacked her causing many stitches.. At one time, he ( the Chow) needed some stomach surgery ....he was wandering around a few days later and I noticed that the stitches had opened and his gutts were actually spilling out !!! I yelled for her and he let me wrap a towel around him and secure it with a horse wrap so she could get to the vet. Now , don't tell me he wasn't in pain !!!

I would not have to make a decision about putting a vicious dog down, because any puppy I raised would be be allowed to get away with such behavior.

I said this is the beginning of ongoing behavior. It will NOT get better. The O.P. has no clue or the behavior would not have been going on for 1 month. It would have been dealt with immediately and permanently and would no longer be a problem.

And quit fuming...it raises your blood pressure! It was Sarah who said to put the dog down. I concurred with her. She has more experience with a multitude of breed than anyone around here could ever hope to acquire. She is recognized as a CHOW EXPERT by those who can recognize when a person knows what they are talking about.

You just don't get the point---an owner who has allowed this behavior to continue for a month HAS NO CLUE. They are not capable of dealing with this problem.....OBVIOUSLY. It will only escalate.

I don't recollect any suggestions from you for modifying this dog's behavior. Did I miss something? I can make one suggestion---put the dog in a pen and do not allow it around any people. And when the time comes that the owner can't get into the pen, call the cops and let them deal with it.

She is a cruel unhappy person.
My husband is a good pet owner. At that time he lived on 5 acres of land, with a long lane to his house. He was in the country. The dog never went anywhere without him. One time he did! You cant tell me this never happens to anyone. It was a freak accident. And because of that, he trust no dog to ever be off leash except in a fenced in yard. To this day he misses that dog. The dog went everywhere with him, loved everyone.
You think you have everyone figured out, and everything figured out.

You are a decent sort, Zoom. Fair minded it seems. So......I went into a coma Sept. 15th. Was taken out by ambulance Sept 18, that is when supposedly 4 dogs got loose. The fence was knocked down around lot 2. But between a 105 degree temperature from Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, and a diabetic coma I had nothing to do about it.

I have already been accused of whipping my dogs, beating my dogs and any number of things. That is why I get annoyed, and sometimes let it show through.

And see how many times I warned IT ONLY TAKES ONE TIME.

We have to think for our dogs, and have foresight. 5 acres don't mean you can't fence off a yard area for the dog. As should have been done.

right you are, this was several years ago, he was early 20's. Back in the days laws werent so strict about dogs. We lived in the country when I was growing up, dogs always ran freely. To this day in the country dogs will run freely. You just dont go judging without knowing the situation. That's wrong. It's so wrong to assume to know what has happened when you dont.

What about a trolley for the dogs. And if he doesn't have a fenced yard, he should not have dogs. I would never sell a puppy to anyone without a fenced yard. Period.

Many here cannot tell the difference between forthrightness and trying to be mean. I guess that is a skill that comes with time.

Some dogs do fine without a yard. They get along fine with just some walks and training time maybe inside or out. You don't necesarily "have" to have a fence to have a dog you just have to choose the right dog.

No Manchester you are the one who has a problem communicating what you want to get across in a courteous manner. Put downs are common in school age children, not normally found in adults posting on a dog lover forum. It's amazing that before you joined this forum the only people who spoke to other members like you do where trolls, it was so friendly and nice. I don't need to be cruel to get my point across, you have insulted numerous members and can justify and rationalize it to yourself till the end of the world, doesn't make you in the right. There is no need to berate people the way you do, we all do our best and when we have a problem we come here for advice, not a lecture from someone whose intentions seem to be to make people feel lesser about themselves. I give up, you honestly win the award for "Person Most Full of Themselves" in my book. I just hope that other members don't leave because of your viciousness.

Edit to add: I know that you have a lot of valuable experience's to share with us but can't you present them in a less hostile manner? Or do you just not have it in you?

Manchester, I'm sorry you lay in a coma for 3 days before you got help. I'm sorry that your dogs went without food or water for 3 days , I'm sorry your fence fell down and your dogs got out. I'm sorry you didn't have anyone to take care of your multi dogs.....Being 10 years older and in not much better shape than you, I plan ahead for emergencies . Come on girl , get off your pallet and live !!! You can add a lot of helpful things here ! Why knock people who need some input !!!
