As far as what type of dogs, the breeds that I want change every day. :p

The only things I can say for sure are that Frodo is NOT my last corgi, and when we are ready there will be Dobermans in Ryan and I's future.

I always wish I had more than one dog to do training and competing with. So, atleast 2.

I see myself with one/two small dogs, then a pack of Border Collies (anywhere from 2-6). I love love having multiple dogs.

I'm not sure. At least two working dogs. But other than that, I guess it just depends on what I can handle at the time.

Hmmm...three was a great number for me. So 3 dogs and 1-2 (possibly 3) cats sounds awesome to me.

I am not sure whether or not I will get to have that pack though. My SO grew up with only one pet at a time and never experienced raising a puppy until we got Watson. He was a little overwhelmed by Watson's antics at first.

He would be fine with the 1-2 and possibly 3 cat theme though ;) He is very much a cat person.

I am not sure as to composition of breeds...

2. 3 would be ok if we had a senior dog, a middle aged dog, and a new puppy to train.

But 2 would be ideal. My preference would be two Dobermans...but my husband thinks he has to have a say. I'm trying to get him to pick a Griff instead of a Dachshund.

Mine is pretty close to yours I think.

Most likely it'll be 2 Paps, 2 BCs as my next 4.

Then possibly 2 Paps, 1 BC, 1 Dobe.

Then when I'm old, probably, 2 Pap, 1 BC, 1 Cav or maybe 1 Pap, 1 BC, 1 field Golden, 1 Cav.

I think I'd like 6 of my own plus a few fosters.

Something like.
3-4 Border Collies
1-2 Kelpies
Either a Borzoi, Greyhound or mystery CattleX mutt.

Or
3 Border Collies
1 Kelpie
1 Malinois
1 Borzoi, Greyhound or mystery CattleX mutt.

6 may be a little ambitious but I WANTTT!

I also think it would be cool to breed quality ISDS registered working/performance BC's as there are so few high quality breeders in Australia but thats a LONG way off.

3 dogs is an ideal for me. More is preferable obviously, but 3 is the ideal.

2 large/medium-large breed dogs
1 small dog

A Rottweiler will ALWAYS be in the mix. Always. Then a small breed I really want is a Papillon, the 2nd large breed will be mystery mutt OR some pure breed if/when it becomes available in South Africa on a reasonable level. I love Akita Inu's, Bernese Mountain dogs, Ibizan hounds, so many breeds that just aren't quite in abundance or EXISTENT at ALL in SA yet. Papillons are one of those breeds too which are not so abundant so maybe even that I will wait for a little longer. For now, I know that from the dogs I have at home, 2 of them will definitely be coming with me when I move out. So my pack is already started with 2 Rotties for now.

I was thinking about this last night and honestly if I could figure out a way for my current dogs to live forever (or at least, as long as I do), I truly think I would never want or need another dog. Ever. Maybe sounds cheesey but it's true.

ETA: Forgot to say how many. I think three-four is my ideal. Up and coming puppy, one-two actively competing and a retiree.
This is what I think also. I used to say three, because that would give me a young dog, an active dog, and a retiree. Now I'm actually thinking four would be okay.
And I fully admit that my thoughts have changed because I want to make room for Pepper.

They will probably mostly be shelties. I might have another breed too. Not sure if I'd count that in with my regular pack or that would just be an extra. It will be a matter of the right dog falling into my lap at the right time so I haven't really thought too much about it.

Two, if it's small dogs. If I had a larger dog, I'd prefer one probably, although it is nice when they have doggie "siblings." But that's now, when I'm getting older sort of. I have had 4 and 5 dogs at a time in the past and it was fine. I am enjoying though, the ease of having just two little ones (and for now, my son's dog for a while). With two wee ones, it's super easy to travel and fit them into the car. They're easy to pick up and to take care of. I don't have to do so much to manage them when there are only two and that way, have time for other things too.

I think right now 3 is our ideal number. We could conceivably foster but it upsets the balance of our house a bit too much to manage it at the moment. Our next dog will be a male senior rescue. I really really want to get a senior Dane from the rescue up in Denver but we'll see what happens. It'll probably be at least 5 years from now anyway, since we have lots of plans for the next couple years. :p

As for breed.....it'll probably be whatever appeals to me. I'm pretty hung up on herding breeds now and fell completely in love with this guy at an adoption event a couple weeks ago. I've taken a solemn vow not to have three young dogs in the house though....having Mu, Sadie and Tipper almost killed me. LOL.

I imagine myself with a Great Dane, Pit Bull, and Border Terrier. It won't happen but every doggy niche would be filled and I'd look funny walking down the street.

I'll probably end up with one Pit Bull at a time, or the Pit and Tucker if my parents tell me to take him when I get out of school.

I want 3 that get along and mesh together well. I could do up to 4 at a time if one of them was getting up there in age.

If they can't get along, I want one dog.

I always want at least one or two herding dogs. A BC or a GSD probably. I'd like to branch out to different breeds, depending on my living situation, so that third spot is open to anything.

I would say my ideal pack would be around 3 dogs if I don't go into breeding, but if I were to breed and develop a full kennel I'd want around 6. Personally, I'd only do the latter if I had a SO or some fantastic connections to help me out.

I'd want a couple of Chow Chows. There's a woman in NH here who has Chows, and they compete in Agility. Because of a Chows thick coat, doing things in summer with them can be difficult, so if I got more involved in dog sports, like SA, protection work, or hunting, I'd like to have a Karelian Bear Dog.

So I guess my ideal pack is 3 Chows, and one or 2 Karelian Bear Dogs.

:rofl1:

I spent a year with my old computer not being able to use a period so I had it constantly copied so I could paste it when need be.

I was so happy it wasn't an actual letter but even just not being able to type a simple . was sooo annoying
I have p on copy most of the time, but my keyboard is also missing the number after 2 and the letter before Y in the alphabet. And I'm too lazy too keep on switching. ITs crazy how annoying it can get. You type a whole paragraph, and then realize you misspelled every word in it :p

As long as I'm still living at home (with my mom to help out), I would want 2-3 dogs. I prefer moderately active adult dogs - ones that can easily handle a couple mile walk, but that won't bouce off the walls if it's -20 degrees outside and we can't go for a walk lol. Breed doesn't really matter - it's more the individual dog thing to me.

I think I'll always have a cat as well - I just don't think I could live without one.

As for caged pets...I don't think I'll be getting any more after the birds I have now are gone. Birds/small mammals just aren't as suited to my lifestyle as dogs and cats are - we don't mesh well.

As far as numbers, it would entirely depend on the individual dogs... I'd go crazy if I had 3 dogs that were all go go go, but I could have 10 dogs like Lucy lol that just like to lay around.
In either case I think my limit would probably be 2 or 3.

I don't even know about breeds. My experience is too limited. But as of now I'd probably say boxer, herding breed... and something else. lol I have no clue. :p
