As long as I can hold off? :rofl1: I'm definitely NOT a good 'one dog person'. I love having multiple dogs to work with, multiple dogs to take to training lessons, multiple dogs that enjoy doing the same type of things.

Realistically, not for another 5 years. I want to be out of grad school and have a stead job by the time I add another dog. I don't see myself lasting 5 years, in all honesty. Maybe I'll take on some training project. But I so want to be out of school, on the same hand.

I have a breeder picked out, if timing works with me.

Ugh yes same. I go through the puppy vs. adult thing too. I loved raising Jackson from the time he was a puppy... but not sure I wanna do it again.
See I didn't really like Juno as a puppy.
Heck, I think I just started liking her a couple months ago.... :rofl1:
But I sit here and think, I would do it all so much better next time around!!

lol. I loved Puppy Quinn but don't like teenager Quinn one little bit.

We will hopefully (so long as council says yes and all that jazz) be adding a 4th dog to our mix this year atleast to curb my raging puppy fever. Actually... if all goes smoothly it might have been conceived.

a long long time. We've decided 4 is a perfect number for us and I don't expect anyone to die any time soon so... it will be a bitter sweet time when I "can" get another dog.

Unless by some miracle DH decides that a 4th dog is a good idea after all it won't be until someone passes and I'm hoping that will be a loooong time off.

Even if we do want a 4th dog eventually, the puppy would likely be added in 7+ years as we anticipate a human puppy in about 4 years and I wouldn't want to add a dog while a child was still in diapers.

Once Rosey is gone. So hopefully in quite a few years from now. There will NOT be a dog coming into this house while she is around, just not fair to her.

What breed of dog depends on where I am. If I am still in my parents house, it will likely be a Pug. I also want a Toller, so that is a possibility, although my dad would also like the next dog to be a Pug. I would also like a Berner, but any dog bigger than Rosey would not fit in this house comfortably, so that is out until I have property.

Honestly though, other than Harley, I have never picked out one of my pets. Even still, Harley really did fall in my lap and chose me before I was even looking to add another pet. So while I sit here and say that I will get either a Pug or a Toller, who knows. Although I DO know that the timeframe will be after Rosey is gone.

Not in the forseeable future?

I feel like a shitty dog owner for saying this, but having a dog is inconvenient. I knew that before I got Middie, and it hasn't been an issue up until this year. And it would be less of an issue if I could take him everywhere with me, but as it is, I'm home about half the week and he does not get the attention and exercise that he needs. I'm unwilling to be home more than this if I can avoid it, so I'm compromising by spending most of my time here keeping Middie busy and entertained. Getting another? HELL NO. He needs a friend, but I can't get him one. :(

I don't have any idea where my life will be in 10 years, so it would be incredibly stupid for me to add another dog to the equation. For the forseeable future it will just be Middie, and after that, unless my life is very stable, probably no dogs. I'll foster - I need dogs in my life somehow - but I don't know where I'll be, what my situation will be like, etc. Now is not the time for another dog.

Right now I'm thinking another 2-3 years.

Not sure what the next dog will be. I've been saying GSD for 5 years, then was introduced to English Shepherds and got Quinn saying "oh, but my NEXT one will be a GSD". Now I've been flip flopping between ES or GSD for the past few months.
I'd also like to meet some Belgian Shepherds. I emailed a lady about a week ago who breeds both Groenendaels and Tervurens, the two I'm interested in, to see if she'd have me out one day this summer to meet her and her dogs but no reply ):

I'm definitely prepared to wait for my perfect puppy this time. I'm getting a male, no doubt about it. I for sure want a spring or early summer puppy - Quinn came home in October and there just wasn't enough nice weather to get her socialized and out and about like I wanted to. I'm also going to be picky on color this time - I want a black GSD or a shaded sable ES. I want something super stable and with a temperament that will work well with Quinn. I also want something that isn't going to mature to be like 70 pounds if I get an ES - I like a smaller framed dog like Quinn (I was looking at ESs today and found a 18" female who is 56 pounds - I can't even imagine Quinn 3 inches shorter and 16 pounds heavier!).

If all goes as planned here in the next few months I'll be able to bring my GSD home. Hoping to god it all goes as planned though.

Not really sure, I can only have 3 dogs in town so probably not for a long time. :) I would love a 4th dog but then I have to get a kennel license and that is too much of a PITA to get.

Right now it just depends on a few things, but as soon as we get settled into a new apartment we will start really seriously looking. So within a year at most hopefully.

Yeah the only thing that would convince me to get a dog in less than 4-5 years would be if Mira's co-owner and I decided to breed her...and even then I don't know.

I'm not upset by it tbh...it's more a matter of logistics. Running two dogs at an agility trial (at two different heights) is a bit of a logistical nightmare at times. That will soon be three. Between logistics and the high price of entries...plus it's not like we only do agility...there's obe and one of these days field and conformation for Mira (if she matures like we hope)...just gets to be a lot. Three actively competing dogs in their prime and/or just starting out is a lot at once!

Plus there's the rest of life...I work full time and three young active dogs take up most of my free time (I am just fine with that). Four and someone starts getting shorted.

Well, Summer hasn't been enjoying agility much lately. Not sure why. I think it may be arthritis. She'll play but some days she seems to just not be into it. Ada might be okay but she's not super high drive or anything. I've toyed with the idea some. I'm really lusting after a dog that would essentially be a Mia in a bigger package. Something balls to the wall crazy and capable of trying anything. Neither Summer nor Ada would be that dog.
Ah, sorry to hear Summer is still sore :( Poor girl.
Training Ada as an agility dog could be fun lol. Might not be the balls-to-the-wall screamin' nutball you're looking for, but she might surprise you and the journey would definitely broaden your training capabilities and make you that much more prepared for future dogs :)

My next dog will likely be one of Kat's. So not for a couple of years.

Laur>> Kaiden isn't very drivey. BUT he is super reliable. Often the really crazy balls to the wall dogs have runs that either set the world on fire, or crash and burn. Its MUCH easier to trial a steady dog. I find it more fun to run the crazy. But since you already have the crazy... its fun to learn how to run both. And balance is good.

I've thought about it some and I think she'd like it. And realistically right now I could not handle another dog like Mia. Well I could, but I would be shorting Mia a lot and that's not something I'm willing to do. So the plan has been for a while to not get a new dog for at least 2-3 more like 4 years when Mia is further along in training. Because if I got a dog it would be another high drive, high energy, probably a lot of work type of dog. Right now I'm fine with Mia being my focus. Summer is good with it too without (imo) getting shorted. So I am considering having Ada to mess around with essentially. Mia being my real focus and Ada being trained for fun and just to see if she takes to it.

I've always said my limit would be about 3. I care for 6 dogs right now and I can do it, but 3 for personal dogs is more comfortable and a lot of 6 dogs being so easy is that Nard and Rose are easy keepers and so are Summer and Beau to a lesser extent and mostly because they're both 7. Mia and Ada take up most my dog time at the moment. So if I keep Ada that puts me at my 3 dogs, 2 of which need a lot of work (at least now). Maybe when the 4 years comes though I'll be okay with four. I'm open to that happening and it's a ways away.

Yup that's kind of where I am. In 4-5 years Web and Kim will be 8-9, Mira will be 5-6, so all will be pretty experienced...so I think I could be open to a pup then to start...by the time s/he were ready to do much Kim & Web would be in double digits. I hope they aren't slowing down, but I also hope to have accomplished most of our trialing goals by then so in terms of competing and such I could probably handle another by then...

And yeah I agree with Dekka on the value of having different types of dogs to run lol. It took Web 6 months and only 7 trials to be competing fully in ExcellentB in AKC agility. Kim? A year and 11 trials from NovA to ExcB. And she had more training first. Part of it is her reactivity and fear issues, part is just that she's a faster dog who really loves the sport and gets a bit...wild at times lol. But she is really fun to run and at her first trial running ExcB she was placing 4th and 3rd of 30 dogs and less than a second behind the two top dogs in our area...which has me really excited about our future! Mira is my balls-to-the-wall dog with no sense of self-preservation. FUN but trialing could be interesting lol. All bring something different to the table, though.

Probably not for a good while. I'm quite content with five for now :p

My oldest (Rylie) is 5 1/2, and chihuahuas generally live for a long time. I'm hoping no one will die for at least the next 10 years.
