I'm surprised so many of you start so late! We started back up on the 26th and are just about to start week #3. As a first semester senior, it's been my last of many firsts as an undergraduate, but I'm excited to see where life takes me.
This semester is definitely going to be a bit of a killer. I'm in 20 credits with P.Chem and Biochem insisting on becoming the bane of my existence already. To those of you in intro Chem- I can try to help answer questions if I remember... it's been awhile, but I'm minoring in chemistry, so I ought to at least!
That said, I'm also taking Animal Behavior, Issues in Animal Science, Advanced Cognitive Psychology + lab, and Nutrition/Brain/Behavior which should all be pretty interesting.
I've decided not to apply to vet school this year, despite having taken all of the prerequisite courses - it just didn't feel quite right and it's a lot of money. Apparently it's not unusual for vets to be in debt until age 55 or 60... it really is like taking a second mortgage. And for something that I'm so wishy washy about, it would be too much of an investment at the moment. My adviser is now pushing me to go to grad school rather than take a year off to work. Anybody have personal experiences? Long story short, I don't know what I want to do with myself after graduation. Grad school is definitely a way to secure a more lucrative job upon receiving a master's and (maybe?) PhD, but I worry that it'll box me in, considering that I really have no inkling as to what I'd like my career path to be. I had an enjoyable summer job helping the incoming Freshmen figure out their schedules for this semester, so I do think I may enjoy some sort of teaching or interactive job. I also did an internship at a warmblood breeding and research center two summers ago and I now know for sure that I
do not want to work on a farm.
That said, my GPA should be high enough and I have enough connections with faculty that I think I should be able to find an opportunity where I can get paid to go to grad school, so it wouldn't put me into debt. It's just a time investment and less money than I could be making if I was working. Thoughts?
Finally - what are you all's majors!? I see course schedules, but I want to know majors! I'm aiming for a dual degree in Animal & Poultry Sciences and Psychology with a minor in Chemistry
