Wave would work. I actually am teaching Gusto that now, and I want to teach him left and right on cue.

Other stuff that I have been thinking of training but haven't had luck is hding stuff in his mouth (for cute photo ops posing holding flowers and such) and then picking things up and putting them in a basket.

I just realized that Brisbane probably has hip arthritis and I feel like a terrible person for not realizing sooner. I sort of thought he might be carrying his head a bit lower. His back end is fit and trim while his front end is still a tad flabby. He has a waistline for the first time in his life. He hasn't been choosing to lay on the couch or the bed lately. He became markedly less enthusiastic in his ComfortFlex and leather harnesses.

I figured his recent hiding and lack of enthusiasm were a combination of starting Prozac and having to live with a foster he doesn't really like, but those were probably just masking the real issue. He just saw the vet a few weeks ago, she didn't pick up on it either.

Astro loved her.

She loved him back.

I still love her.

She still loves me.

I think I have a second dog coming home tomorrow :D I truly, genuinely did not think that a cattle dog mix would be the right fit.
Glad it worked out with Astro. I think I found the dog you are talking about looking at the shelter you mentioned to me. She's a pretty girl. Happy for the both of you.

Yay! So excited for you.

I can't wait to see her.
So so SO happy for you!!! :D
Oh, maybe a variety of dog catches? Japanese dog catch, that swirly one where you catch them by their belly and twirl them... (I don't know the name). I've been planning on re-visiting those forever but keep getting distracted.

Congrats on your possible new found partner for Astro!
That's great!!! Can't wait to see pics :D
Thanks guys! :D Hopefully all goes well tomorrow.

You probably did, she's the only cattle dog at that rescue for sure. And thanks!

I'm sort of in shock...I'm spending tonight picking up everything and stuffing Kongs and fretting. My family NEVER had more than one dog at a time so this will be a 100% new venture for me, and even though I've been searching off and on for a dog I still somehow hadn't processed what it will be like to actually just...go pick up another dog!

I am excited to have a totally different type to work with. I thought long and hard about getting a Pei or another Pei mix, but for whatever reason I really felt like I wanted to try something else. I've already noticed points about her that are totally different from Astro but I think I'll like them - like the fact that she sticks close and loves the water.

Grrrrr

The young Houla that I wasn't able to meet for logistical/scheduling reasons when she came up for the event from down south, is now being fostered very close to me. Got an email asking me if I'm still interested.

I felt pretty comfortable in my decision but I feel thrown now. The Houla comes from a foster/home situation so they know more about her; the cattle dog is from a shelter so they know much less. The Houla is crate trained, rides in a car well, etc. And honestly is much more aesthetically pleasing to me, not that that should be the deciding factor...

I'm still going with the cattle dog because that's what my gut is telling me, but eugh. If I get the cattle dog and she doesn't work out I will be really torn up, I hope she's not a nightmare in the car and the crate. She's gonna have to learn through trial by fire, I work today and she'll be crated (in a huge-ass crate made for dogs that weigh 50 pounds more than her, and with a stuffed Kong, but still).

Boo poor little Josefina got sick this morning, we were playing morning fetch and she just turned off getting the ball suddenly and voided her stomach, like everything that was in it (they got fed at 10 pm last night so there wasn't much to void) only one puke had food in it (she puked like ... 3 times) now she seems to just feel blech. I gave them all turkey necks last night but I don't think it was that since everyone got one and no one else is sick. I sure hope she didn't get a hold of something in the yard but I don't think so :( , I will be watching her closely today and if she isn't any better by feeding tonight I guess we will be going to the vet the next day.

Vibes for Josefina! I hate when they're sick, Astro had a bout of vomiting fairly recently and I felt so bad, he was so pouty and worried-looking :(Turned out to be pig ears in his case, guess pork doesn't sit well with him.

Also someone tell me NOT to go to the city shelter to pick up this dog there because I should wait to get settled in better first. I'm not even 100% moved out of the old place yet!

Uh god I am seriously contemplating it. It would have to be tomorrow so if she's adopted quick then it's a no go. She's 4 months and 21 lbs, how big would that get?

Her description sounds great but she's younger than I'd like.

She's in a kill shelter though so.... But I'm not set up well for another dog yet.

She'd probably end up around 40lbs - perfect size!

Any worries about her being spayed so young? That would give me some pause unless the shelter would consider alternative altering options or she was absolutely perfect otherwise.

Yes that's why I wanted an older dog if I went the shelter route:/. So unsure.
Does the shelter for sure do pediatric s/n? some are still doing voucher programs. Also, if she's not already spayed, maybe it would be worth asking the shelter about OSS?

I know a shelter in Canada that did a vasectomy when asked...

I'm really not sure if I'm musing or venting here... I want to laugh, but at the same time, I'm like... SERIOUSLY?

I was sitting on the floor playing with Percy and all of a sudden, he took a big ol' slurp across my face, which I wasn't expecting, and I didn't manage to close my eyes in time.
He swallowed my contact. The thing came out of my eye, and he swallowed it. I didn't even know that was possible.
So, I called our vet, who is familiar with Percy and the receptionist could barely contain her laughter. Then my actual vet got on the phone, and by the time we were done talking (him reassuring me that Percy would indeed, be just fine, as big as he is he should pass it without incident) he was barely containing his laughter, too.

This dog is going to be the death of me. Pig is already sitting at the vet today, I don't need him there, too. -_-
