Lab forums be all like, "You cannot call that obese dog fat! It's just "big boned" and "thick furred" and it can still go on walks or swim and retrieve a duck once or twice, so it can't be at an unhealthy weight, right?! Not all Labs are field labs!"

Having a bench bred Labrador does not give you a pass to have an extra 10-15 pounds on the dog. Sorry. And field Lab does not equate healthy weight, either.
Okay Beagle forums are normal!!!!

I forgot the split in the styles, I'll stick with my all breed forums though!

Question of the Day: are they any breed specific forums that contain sane people?

I have been perusing breed forums. Everything hurts.

Border Collie Forum: "it is not a REAL border collie unless it came from a REAL sheep ranch with 100,000 sheep (those AKC breeders with their 500 sheep are just POSERS,) NEVER leaves the ranch to do "sports", or as we call it, THE DEVIL'S WORK, and above all NEVER registers with AKC aka AMERICAN breed KILLER CLUB, because when you register with those people they inject your dog's brain with a chemical that turns it into a black and white (or god forbid MERLE) GOLDEN RETRIEVER!!! And never EVER health test or socialize because those are just GIMMICKS meant to LURE IN THE MASSES *explosions and gunfire heard in distance*
There are very few border collie forums, and I have never been on one anything like this. Yes, the USBCHA board people are sometimes overly intense about working border collies, but every single person I have talked to on there considers health testing an absolute must, and doesn't care what you do with your border collie as an activity, but no, they don't like to see people breeding for other sports or pet. A lot of them do sheepdog trials to prove their breeding dogs...so no, they don't only consider the dogs proven if you have a million sheep. Which makes sense, considering the forum is run by *the organization for working border collies*. No, they're not going to like the AKC. Not really my scene, but yah, it's worth understanding before you exaggerate and make fun.

I assume your talking about, USBCHA forum?

Because if it is,it really isn't as bad, as you put out to be.It could be due to me not being there long(I started posting there a few days ago), but I don't think that is the case.

Yeah, there are some people on there who are over the top. I've never seen anyone say they are against health testing. A Good amount of the breeders they promote, might not do all the health testing you want, but, it does happen.

Oh, & I agree with Oko.

What Pit Bull forum would that be based on? The two most notable forums I know contain possibly the most sane people in the entire bully breed world, pretty much the polar opposite of that o_O
Exactly. I've never seen a Pit Bull forum, with that mentality. I tend to shy away from that community.

They don't despises dog aggression, they seem to take DA very serious way. There are a few people, on those forums, that do fight their dogs.

I was thinking the same thing.

About the pitties too.

I found myself on a beagle forum once, where I read a post that went: " My stupid neighbors just bought a RABBIT! How dare they buy a pet and keep it in a cage on their back porch inside their 6' privacy fence! My beagle can smell it and now every time he goes out into my yard he just stands at the fence and barks nonstop at the rabbit!"

Followed by two pages of, "Well it serves those neighbors right, buying rabbit when they live next door to a beagle! They'll just have to put up with hours of nonstop barking, they brought it on themselves."

Also: "A neighbor, the corner of whose yard fence touches a corner of my yard fence, got a rabbit for their kids and it's driving my beagle nuts. I swear they specifically let it out to play in the yard when they hear my dog outside. It will totally be their own fault if my dog (that spends all day outside unattended) digs under the fence and kills their rabbit (that only comes out under close supervision) in front of their preschooler, am I right?" Followed by pages of agreement.

The "people who live near beagles aren't allowed to keep small animals outside" seems to be a beagle forum thing.

That's ridiculous. They're probably the same people that will jump on the whole "beagles are very smart and trainable" brigade when someone insults the breeds intelligence.

I dunno.

My beagle lives in a house WITH a rabbit and we've managed to train him to leave it alone and be quiet around it *shrugs*

MIL "fed" Kimma yesterday while she was over her house playing with their dog Lissy, obvi without my asking her to. They feed chicken-based kibble. Kimma can't have chicken-based kibble. Poor girl almost had a poopsplosion in the ring at the agility trial today. She didn't, we Qd 1/2 (second run I handled something weird), and ewww.

Now she's looking pathetic and laying on the floor all sad. Poor kiddo.

I'm also totally weirded out by coonhound forums. I get that not all training can be super-positive happy times, but the consensus literally seems to be that the only way to train a hound is to beat or shock them whenever they find the wrong animal/tree/hole/thing. Might be my coastal/suburban upbringing, but it feels weird that there doesn't seem to be a positive way to train a hunting dog.

(I also have no idea why these people want to hunt raccoons anyway. Do they taste good? Does somebody actually use the pelt for something? I mean, I hate the little bastards myself but I don't quite see the need to keep a bunch of dogs to go find them for me so I can kill them.)

There are no GSP forums I've found. I won't frequent HPR forums as they're just hunt hunt hunt and most US forums, and the culture difference is just waaaaaaay too much.

But the gsp Facebook community is alright actually :) not too bad, and definitely varied but amicable. There are always going to be disagreements, but meh. Most people advocate positive training now, even the GSP breeder/owners who work their dogs. Quite a forward thinking bunch thankfully :D although, I don't get so involved these days.

Thinking we should start the Trick of the Week threads up again, what do you guys think? Any tricks you want to do?
I'm always game, but I'm not really able to devote the time to manage it. No real suggestions. The tricks I'm working on right now are improving my jump-into-arms, improving rebound, improving handstand. Oh, and an ambidextrous wave. Or you can try a "put a thing in another thing" trick.

Astro loved her.

She loved him back.

I still love her.

She still loves me.

I think I have a second dog coming home tomorrow :D I truly, genuinely did not think that a cattle dog mix would be the right fit.

I love having them going, although I never have any ideas to suggest. We might not participate in all with Gusto's newly diagnosed elbow problems (so much for handstands :( ) but I've been trying to work out new tricks for him lately that he can do.

Oh, maybe a variety of dog catches? Japanese dog catch, that swirly one where you catch them by their belly and twirl them... (I don't know the name). I've been planning on re-visiting those forever but keep getting distracted.

Congrats on your possible new found partner for Astro!

Yessssss. I'm about to have a dog on restricted activity for several weeks, so any less physical thing would be amazing. But I don't have any suggestions specifically.
