Apparently Rigby isn't actually afraid of thunderstorms, she's just manipulative and has me trained well.

Massive storm blew in and she began her freaking out.

So I got the treats out. As soon as they came out she became visibly calmer.
Each time it thundered she got a treat. By the 3rd repetition she was calm. By 4th and 5th I noticed that she would intently stare at me waiting for a treat.
Now the food has run out, and she's sound asleep.

I have been conditioned

Oh absolutely, it is.

But it seems like she has conditioned me to the stress signals instead.

Typically, with her at least, in stressful situations it takes more than 2-3 repetitions to have entirely calmed down from the aversive. And I mean entirely, she went from seemingly 100% stressed to not having a care in the world.
Usually these issues with her don't display a noticeable improvement until at least a few sessions in of several repetitions.

I am glad she has calmed down, but I feel like her stressing was more of a thought process of "if I stress out the treats come out"
That is likely too much anthropomorphism though, it's been a long day....

Ooooo?? They're pretty cool dogs, one of my neighbors has one.
Oh really? I've been thinking about them for a while and I even have helped this particular breeder in the conformation ring a couple of times and visited her when she had a litter on the ground. I wasn't serious/had a potential timeline at that point, because I knew Bubbles would be bred and I would maybe keep something from her. But I figured I would reconnect and see if she's still breeding pretty frequently. Well I guess as frequently as you would for a kind of random breed :p

They seem like a cool mix of independence and biddability.

Yay! They seem awesome, but, I admire them from afar. Just not the breed for me.
Hahaha I tend to like breeds that many only want to admire from afar :p

I pulled a dog to foster, well technically had my brother up in Minnesota pull the dog for me. Now I'm pretty sure the dog won't be making it down to Missouri, my brother is in absolute love with her and she is apparently obsessed with him. Love it when stuff like that happens!! Cross your fingers it all works out.
I hope it works out!!! That would be great! Are you looking for another dog for your crew?

You have Finnish Barkbeasts don't you? We have a delightful pair at work that enjoy spending their daycare visits barking at a place where they saw a lizard once last year. They come every day. I'm pretty sure their neighbors have something to do with this.

Haha I do have them, and surprisingly mine do not boredom bark. Mostly because I do not give them the chance to just hang around outside yelling at things, and also because I give them lots of exercise and mental stimulation :D

ETA - That's NOT to say that they aren't vocal anyway! But I like vocal dogs, so it obviously works for me :)

:( Any idea why she's eliminating in the ring lately?
Well this one is probably because I never took her out to potty all night after our standard run.

Lesson learned. Potty the dog before every run.

At class she is pooping in the ring lately though.

Yeah, I remembered you had posted about the pooping in the agility thread... I didn't know if it was the same idea. So weird!

I always make sure Kimma at least pees before every run. She generally will poop, too, which makes things easier since I don't have to worry about it then.

Paris went to her first disc trial today- we were in the training division so it's not like it was anything competitive but we had a blast! She was so good and so focused and I can't wait for the next one. :) This dog is sooo much fun.

I really don't want to be a one dog home. When Quest found a good home I put the word out to some crested and whippet breeders.

I am meeting a young crestie tomorrow. But I am not taking a dog home for at least a month. Dekka needs some time to de-stress and put weight on.

Dekka likes males of both breeds. I really miss having a whippet. A lot. But cresties are so cute and they are a better size for me right now.

Gah

Had the best time dock diving today (we made the cut for tomorrow!) and working with a disc dogger for some awesome training. Learned SO much and just had a blast playing disc with no dogs. Good day. :)

OMG pics!!! :lol-sign:
I will get some soon! They're so cute, they have loooong Basset ears and stubby legs, but very Cocker-like faces/heads otherwise. Half of them are black and white, the others lemon and white. Huge range of markings too, from heavily colored to mostly white.

There's one that's tempting me more than the others...little lemon and white girl with a total princess attitude, she ran right up and planted herself in my lap.
