My favorite conversation regarding domestic violence with a doctor went like this:

"Um. What are all these scratches and bruises from?"
"I'm a dog trainer."
"Really. What kind of dog training?"
"The fun kind where you teach your dog to jump all over you."
She then proceeded to quietly slip me a domestic violence brochure on my way out.

Had to have a "downstairs" exam one time. Forgot I'd been working on fronts with Indy who is... enthusiastic about them to say the least. My legs were scratched up, my chest was scratched up, my thighs and calves were bruised. I got that "are you safe at home" talk. It's nice to know they care, but the funniest part is telling them, "yes, I'm perfectly safe from all the humans in my household, but my dog is a bit of a sadist, and enjoys knocking me over a little bit too much."

They always think that's funny. :p

Right? I'm actually not kidding, that post was paraphrasing an actual conversation with a doctor once because I was covered in ugly bruises from the dogs and scooter (and my nose actually was broken). I actually worry sometimes that I'm going to encounter a doctor someday who doesn't believe me, although I think my demeanor while explaining is a little too relaxed for that to ever happen.

Our SOs are going to start a support group "Men Falsely Accused of Abuse Because of the Dog"

Not long after I started my current job I had to come to work with a bruised face and a butterfly literally holding part of my face together, just below my lower lip. Because dog. Not that there is a job where showing up in that condition is applauded, but mine makes it stand out a lot. Wasn't even MY dog.

Though I did bring home the offending dog's nephew a year later sooo...

I was complaining to Andrew last night about my ribs being bruised from rebound training. He says, "Gotta build up some strength and tolerance for getting beaten." o_O I told him I never thought I'd be ok with a guy telling me that. :rofl1:

... Sadly, it is true.

I'm not sure if I think it's funny or sad that so many of us have had the domestic violence conversation with our doctors because of our dogs.

My SO would want the FB address LOL. I don't help things because I get very embarrassed when doctors and people see the scratches and bruises, ESP when I had Izze, that dog used to beat the crap out of me LOL.

I have also gotten this as well.

Add me to the list of people who has had a doctor ask about "all those bruises" on my legs. Doesn't help that I'm pale skinned and bruise very easily (and they take forever to heal). I said it was the dog and she looked suspicious, then I explained that he was young and rambunctious and she seemed ok with that answer. Not sure what my excuse will be when he's 5 years old and still giving me bruises.

I think Denise Fenzi wrote a blog post about this same thing, where she had to admit she's a dog trainer, and they get the look that implies "Well you must not be a very good one"

When I had a physical done about a year or two ago, the nurse asked me if there were any unusual scrapes/bruises she should know about. I said, "Well, I work at at a vet clinic. I have scratches all up and down my arms, plus a few scars." She was alright with that. Lol

That urge to get a new dog collar, cuz you see a really pretty one but... nah. This isn't beta biothane, that's not beta, it all looks so nice but I'm too lazy to deal with things that aren't beta.

Probably the best thing I've ever done for my bank account is become addicted to that material lol.

I've been working so much with Quinn lately, I have been sort of neglecting Zander. He rather enjoyed all the trick training, and I was feeling a bit better today, so I figured I'd go through everything with him.

Sit, down, back up, shake, sit pretty, touch, step up, bow, spin, turn, close "x", all of it is definitely still in his head. And it was sorta refreshing to work with a more experienced dog for once, rather than starting everything from scratch.

Zander is fantastic, but Quinn is a nice break. Quinn is fantastic, but Zander is a nice break. They are so very different, but I do love them both and I equally enjoy how they balance each other out.

Ugh. Gusto had a shoulder injury about 18 months ago. We went to a rehab vet, got laser, thought we were in good shape.

Except...every once in a while, I'd see a funny step. Not often, and never more than one step. I'd catch him get out of a chair or something, think "wait, is he lame?" and he'd stretch and walk away fine. And I put it off as paranoid former owner of a horse who went lame at the drop of a hat.

Until the other day, when he went to sleep after playing ball, and got up barely toe-touching. It was time for bed, so we went to sleep and he woke up fine. I thought I caught a funny step tonight when training - and again, he came home, went to sleep, and got up lame.

And now I'm sitting here trying to navigate the world of small animal vets and referrals and records, because there is nothing I hate more than spending money and time being shuffled from one vet to another, and I just want to take him to an actual "lameness expert" right from the start. When I'd rather be thinking about the agility trial I'm pulling from this weekend instead.

Crappy thing about raw is when you're a loser like I am and keep forgetting to place another order until you have like... 2 spoonfuls left. Technically I don't NEED to order it but it's cheaper to buy in bulk, and for that I need an order! Looks like Juno will be doing the kibble thing for a little while.

I'm so sorry! :(

Do you have anyone who can do diagnostic ultrasound and treatments (if that's what his injury would necessitate)?

If I can get him in with the place I'm planning to try, yes. It is 3 hours away, which sucks, but choices are so freaking limited in Vermont. I am going to call today and try to get an idea of what I can do. I'm a little lost navigating small animal vets; it is rather different from dealing with all the stuff I dealt with for Tristan. I'm hoping I can just make an appointment there and not have to go through my regular vet, who I like and trust but think will want to do exams and x-rays themselves first. Chasing after obscure vet issues is pretty much my least favorite thing ever after the last 8 years. I just want to go to the best person I can find and afford, and get an answer.

And also hoping that I can make one big appointment, and not go, get an exam, have to go back the next week for x-rays and ultrasounds and whatever, and keep driving back and forth. Does that happen? I have no idea.

At my work we can sometimes do the diagnostic ultrasound the same day as the consult. But the ultrasound treatments have to be spread out. This might help explain some of the issues you've been having with him? I hope you get some answers.

I have been thinking about retiring Rigby from our demo team. She just doesn't seem into it anymore, and her aggressive tendencies seem to be appearing more frequently there. I feel like if she's not happy there, why push her?
I plan to try other activities with her in hopes of finding something she really enjoys.

Fortunately, I think Ruby might be a suitable contender for Rigby's "replacement" so to say.
I've worked some basic obedience stuff with her over the past few days, and holy crap. This dog is actually kind of smart, and a people pleaser. I never thought that little Kitty-Paws would be so biddable. There may be hope for her yet :)
