Last year I took my friend's Pharaoh hounds for a walk while the owners were out of town. Someone stopped me on the street and asked "is they deer?"

Aside from being mistaken for a rabbit once, nobody has argued with me about Ripley's breed. There were people who were adament that Dakota was a mixed breed when he was a puppy, but they usually recognize him as a Border Collie now. Occasionally I do get the "sure he's not an Aussie?" stuff, but nobody cares to argue with me about it for too long.

I''ve had someone tell me how wonderful it is that they train these golden retrievers to aid the ""differently abled"" and all the while was talking about OC. I guess they thought that Goldens were a term used for assistance dogs and since OC was wearing a backpack he was an assistance dog... I also get Malamute a lot with OC cause of his size.

When I proceeded to tell them that "no, in fact they are a Japanese breed, called Shiba Inu," I literally had people say "no they're not."

Riiiiiiight. How do you even argue with someone like that? I just kind of stared for a moment then walked away.

I get the same thing! People think Corky is a Jack Russel mix. I'm not sure what they think he's mixed with considering he has a curly tail. Any guesses on this? I haven't had anyone argue with the fact that he's a full blooded basenji, Thank Goodness! I guess that's what we get for owning breeds that aren't well known.

Someone told me Scirrocco had to be part deer at the dog park one time because
a) hes long limbed, light colored and has big ears

When Naughty was a baby it was " omg is that a German shep?" or "omg a doberman!!!".... I mean, REALLY people?!

And then kodak was "one of those rare border collies!".. how do you get a border collie from a ACD ?!?!!!

People tell me all the time what a cute Pomeranian I have LOL (she is a long hair chihuahua). I had someone argue with me once that Chihuahuas don't have long hair, so it must be a pomeranian.
