the only TRUE hypoalergenic breeds are hairless, i vote for the first whitehouse crested :p

in truth though, there are going to be rumors and talk of what there gettin, right now we've got folks saying there going to rescue, folks saying there getting a "golden doodle"...next itlls be folks saying "there lying and aint getting a dog" to whatever...
im HOPING no matter what they do PROPER reaserch into whatever breed there considering, im sure theyve been flooded by letters abotu what they should get and who they should get it from...
suggestions to them would be great, along with WHY...

but dont go saying "there getting such and such" unless youve personally talked to them about it...
for all you knwo they could come home wiht anything, pure or mixed.

as a side note...a worry about mixed breeds. while yes it would be great to promote how great mixed breeds are and to rescue...but like the fad with chis when they became popular, and dals when they had their surge ect...there will be many BYB's out there that deciee to breed whatever mix the new whitehouse dog will be and selling them...and people would buy them because its what many americans do...
many dont see Oh its a cool mutt that came from a SHELTER" instead they see, "wow thats a cool dog where can i get one thats that exact same mix!" and there will be many so called breeders out there willing to give them what they want

Also if you think Iraq is bad, DC is horrid..
WTF? Seriously, What? lol.

I'm sorry, and just how long were you deployed to Iraq? Because you're clearly speaking from experience, right?

I'll make sure the next time my best friend calls home from Iraq, I'll let him know that those bullets and explosives he's trying his damnedest to dodge everyday aren't that bad.

:rolleyes::mad::rolleyes:

you have got to be kidding me...

I dont see how you can even say such a thing

Pure bred?

American Water Spaniel.

"Ugly" brown dogs with curly coats- not the type of dog people will rush out for.

Such a small gene pool that they couldn't over breed it if they tried. Curly coats, I wonder how the shedding/ allergies go with them. They can donate it to me if its too allergen filled ;) I like brown curly dogs...

This thread has had some of the most random comments in it... wow.

I hope the Obama's choose a dog that suits them and dont worry about the statement it is going to make. Because in 4-8 years they will be out of the white house and they will have to live with the dog.

They are going to have their pick of the best dogs from rescues or breeders so I am sure whatever they end up with is going to be perfect for them. Even if they end up with a dog that is too much to handle they will be able to afford trainers to make it easier to handle. I am sure whatever dog they get will be very lucky.

Im not sure how Obama looks like the kind of man that would have a frilly white dog at the end of his leash... but you do realize that a guy who can walk around with a frilly white dog at the end of their leash is very manly and obviously very confident, right?

And on the issue of DC being worse than Iraq... well I will just ignore that because I really cant think of anything good to say but WHOA!

I do hope they don't go with some low breeder of "poos or doodles".

I hope they go through a rescue or RESEARCH a breed they think would fit there family and lifestyle and go with a good breeder.

Yeah, it's the insecure guys who HAVE to have a stereotypically "tough" dog. Poodles, maltese, yorkies, etc are just as much "dogs" as German shepherds, pit bulls, and dobermans.

I completely agree.

I don't understand how owning a small fluffy dog makes you any less of a man... that's always confused me. I personally like seeing men with small dogs at the ends of their leashes- it makes me respect them more for not lowering themselves down to stupid stereotyping.

I also agree!

This is not the reason I married him but it definitely was one of them. :D And he does this to any breed, whether it was a bully, collie, dobie, mutt...he's equal opportunistic dog lover.

And don't listen to Eddie, hubby is not prepping up to saute/cook our puppy Kassie.

And he also love his Tilly.

Based on pets, George Washington is the president I would have gotten along with best. He seems to have had a dozen or so dogs with him during his presidency, many in the house, including a staghound named Sweetlips and a coonhound named Drunkard. He was a breeder of staghounds and coonhounds and instrumental in setting American coonhound type. How can you not love that?

Incidentally, I believe a cross between a pitty and a poodle should really be called a PIDDLE.

be nice if he got a dog that is considered aggressive, ie Pit Bull, Stafford, Rottie etc, because be nice for these dogs to have decent publicity and not the kind they get now, plus he will hire the best dog trainer etc, so you know the dog would be in safe hands, but I think he will go for a rescue dog, which is also great!

i presonally would take it as a compliment...
