I know someone who owns a "labradoodle" and got her from a breeder. She bought her because the breeder said that if she didn't, the dog was going to go the shelter. They liked the idea of "no shedding" but wowie wow wow the dog sheds!
Ya, and somebody off of GP (globalpaw) has a Lab/Poodle cross that she adopted from a shelter, and it shed a whole bunch too!

Exactly!! No dog is nonshedding (no matter where you get it from), especially not a lab mix!!

I can easily get that from my shepherd. most dogs shed a lot. if you want a non shedder get a purebred non shedding dog so you have more than a 50% chance of getting a non shedder.
and answer the question Jason.

and by non shedder I dont mean NON shedder, I mean a breed that sheds less than most.

And yes, that shedding thing all has to do with genetics. It depends which trait is dominant. And then there are the hidden (reccessive) traits. Just crossing two dogs and hoping they won't shed...not going to happen. The only reason Poodles don't shed is because of the way their coat is. Most Lab/Poodle mixes I've seen don't have that type of coat, thus shedding.

Hey Jason...maybe instead of an endless debate about this, maybe you can post what you want in a dog, and then we can help you find a breed that will suit you. Because, believe it or not, Retrievers aren't the only fun loving, people loving, water loving dogs out there. And if you want a dog that sheds little, maybe you could try a Portegeuse Water dog? Or the Water Spaniels or whatever they are called?

I've always been somwhat attracted to IWS...I have no idea why...someday I may think about rescuing one. I also love Standard Poodles...preferably white. I fell in love with standard poodles last summer...there's just something about them that I like. I don't like the minis or toys much. IWS...I was looking through a dog breed book and came upon them and they just seem like very interesting dogs.

Anyways, I'll go back on topic LOL!

About the IWS...I guess I just don't like their Ratty tail! lol I like the Portuguese Water Dogs. lol And then with the Poodles...I prefer Blackie Standards in a normal dog clip. lol No show clips for me!

Jason, if you are still with us, I think the Portuguese Water Dogs would fit you.
They look like the "Doodle" breeds, are very smart and trainable, shed little, don't require the frequent trimming that a Poodle would, gets along well with other animals when introduced, and they aren't really really popular, so quality is high.
I really wish you would look into them more.

Their tails are a little funny....did you know they never grow fur on their faces? I don't like the poodle show clip either.

O.K. if you can brush get any dog....if you can't get a poodle and spend the $$$ to have it groomed. Dogs take time. I'm a bad Mommy, Chip only gets brushed etc once a week. He's happy, I'm happy !! I vacuum, etc. and don't complain....he's mine and we love each other.....

how is it false??? have you done ANY research into the so called breed??? who told you that wasnt true? oh, lemme guess, a labradoodle breeder.
try finding someone who has a labradoodle, and doesnt breed them, and ask them how much it sheds. to be accurate you'll have to find quite a few though.
I have spent time with my neighbors LD and it only sheds when groomed, a far cry from the Golden. You people are so full of yourselves.

we're full of ourselves because we are more open minded and have done more research and have a much better understanding of dogs and breeding than you do??? being around one dog doesnt mean anything. there are thousands that shed just as much as goldens do. and you still havnt answered the question. what do you like about the labradoodle that you cant get in another breed? and dont say anything about shedding because that is bulls**t.
