I have been trying to find this article...and I found it!....Something to think about of where Irans intentions lay with their nuclear program....

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/mai...an14.xml&sSheet=/news/2006/01/14/ixworld.html

One of the most disturbing parts (because the whole thing is disturbing) of the article for me is this:

"Mr Ahmadinejad appears to believe that these events are close at hand and that ordinary mortals can influence the divine timetable."

Not to step on people's toes, and I am sure that it may have been voiced somewhere through this thread, but so often I start reading a thread come up with several remarks that I would like to make and by the end i have forgotten them:

On the idea that this war is pointless: I have been back in the states for a year now, after working for the "EVIL" Halliburton for a long time. I am not going to lie, i did make a lot of money while i was over there, but the reason that we are there is JUST. There are people that came to me out in town and thanked me time after time for being over there and helping them better their lives. It was miserable over there for the people not in power. I am tired of arguing about the war in terms of oil or not, but the effects of us taking that dictator out of power are simply huge.

Living conditions are not GREAT by any means, but they are SUBSTANCIALLY better than before.

I really really don't wanna argue about whether the war is just. *sigh* But read this.

The Iraqis are sooooo much better off, right?

I don't doubt that you had a few people tell you thank you. Not trying to put that down at all, but I don't know. It just doesn't look good to me.

better off? YES!!

(I think that anytime a tyranical dictator is taken out of power thereby reducing the genocide that is happening to his population is "BETTER OFF" yeah, their life may suck now, and several people may have WORSE lifes, but the people who lived under the heel of Sadams boot are less likely to die. therefore, in my opinion, BETTER OFF)

Living in the life of Luxury? NO!

This could go round and round, but for example look at the Russians after the end of communism, we in the west thought it was awful, how can one nation be SO governed by the powers that be?? After Communism was over thrown, the people of Russia were thrown into abject poverty. Communism was the key that was holding the nation together. Under the communist regin everyone was provided for, everyone was fed, health care was bountyfull etc. Now I'm not saying that I agree with Communism of any kind but you have to look at it this way.... We have freedom, we are used to it, we demand it as a right, what if you had NEVER had freedom?? Would you be so quick to demand it?? Or would you follow suit with everyone else, as long as you were provided for?? The more I think about it, the more I think of people as dogs... The more freedom you give them the more they want, give them strict guidelines to adhere to and they are happier. :D And then also there is a decrease in theft, because everyone has the same, it would be like stealing from yourself... Just musing now! lol!

Just the ramblings of a mad woman for what they are worth! lol!

The problem with Iran having nukes is that they will use them. They will be launched against Israel and every other US ally in the area.

I don't think the US will do anything right away, but I'd bet dollars to donuts that Israel isn't going to stand by and let Iran start developing nukes without some intervention.

Sorry - this may be off on a tangent a bit, but a couple of Bill Hicks quotes for ya to mull over!!

"I'm so sick of arming the world and then sending troops over to destroy the ****ing arms, you know what I mean? We keep arming these little countries, then we go and blow the **** out of 'em. We're like the bullies of the world, you know. We're like Jack Palance in the movie Shane, throwing the pistol at the sheep herder's feet: 'Pick it up.' 'I don't wanna pick it up mister, you'll shoot me.' 'Pick up the gun.' 'Mister, I don't want no trouble, huh. I just came down town here to get some hard rock candy for my kids, some gingham for my wife. I don't even know what gingham is, but she goes through about 10 rolls a week of that stuff. I ain't looking for no trouble, mister.' 'Pick up the gun.' Boom, boom. 'You all saw him. He had a gun.'"
The world is like a ride at an amusement park. And when you choose to go on it, you think it's real because that's how powerful our minds are. And the ride goes up and down and round and round. It has thrills and chills and it's very brightly coloured and it's very loud and it's fun, for a while. Some people have been on the ride for a long time, and they begin to question: Is this real, or is this just a ride? And other people have remembered, and they come back to us, they say, 'Hey – don't worry, don't be afraid ever, because this is just a ride ...' And we ... kill those people. Ha ha, 'Shut him up. We have a lot invested in this ride. Shut him up. Look at my furrows of worry. Look at my big bank account and my family. This just has to be real.' It's just a ride. But we always kill those good guys who try and tell us that, you ever notice that? And let the demons run amok. But it doesn't matter, because – it's just a ride. And we can change it anytime we want. It's only a choice. No effort, no work, no job, no savings and money. A choice, right now, between fear and love. The eyes of fear want you to put bigger locks on your doors, buy guns, close yourself off. The eyes of love instead see all of us as one. Here's what we can do to change the world, right now, to a better ride. Take all that money we spend on weapons and defenses each year and instead spend it feeding and clothing and educating the poor of the world, which it would pay for many times over, not one human being excluded, and we could explore space, together, both inner and outer, forever, in peace.

Yep - I am sure there will be people to tear apart his ideas, but for me? Well - I think Bill Hicks had some special insight into the world. Saw it for what it is.

Bill was great :D

Well...about handouts...J/K :D
I still think that we need to mind our own business (sometimes) and I am so sick and tired of hearing "Feed the children, Eduacate the poor, Help Everybody, but we have hungery kids in US also, you dont see commercials about them....We have some of the same problems everybody else does, but its always go help everybody ,but ours...

True.

But Bill's point was to take the money from weaponry and put it to better use.

Ya can't argue with that :D

It's not very realistic, but a great, great sentiment.

I do agree we need to mind our own businesses. But if it was the other way around, and we didn't help - there would be uproar.

Another quote (yep - it's bill day today!)

"I hate patriotism...I can't stand it, man—makes me ****in' sick. It's a round world last time I checked."

I do agree with that....:D So no argument there and I didnt mean to come across that we shouldn't help anyone...I just think that we to put things into prospective (sp) and look at our country and what needs to be done here...

Thats true jess - but in the long run, we will be affected more if we didn't do something..

I am totally against war (just look at any of my other posts on war/conflict! Peace loving hippy type here).. But I am also against people knocking the **** out of each other. For some of these "leaders" its the neighbours first, then the world ;)

I have another comedian quote (not sure where these are all coming from today!!!)

Eddie Izzard

And, um, but there were other mass murderers that got away with it! Stalin, killed many millions, died in his bed, well done there. Pol Pot killed 1.7 million Cambodians, died under house arrest, age 72. Well done indeed. And the reason we let it – them get away with it is because they killed their own people. And we’re sort of fine with that. Ah, help yourself, you know. We’ve been trying to kill you for ages! So kill your own people, ohh, right on there. Seems to be, Hitler killed people next door – awwww…stupid man. After a couple of years, we won’t stand for that, will we?

I also agree that the United States government needs to keep their noses out of other countries business and pay more attention and spend more money on people in our country who need help, like our elderly who can't afford their medication and our schools that in many states are not providing proper education to our children who are the future of this country.
