I think this was a perfectly legitimate reason to contact someone in the OPs life. They should not own other dogs, especially a CC in the conditions they have.

People are going to harass people online regardless of whether it's right or wrong or there's even any cause to do so. That's what you open yourself up to when you post online. I would know, I've had two employers contact and lied to about me in the past year by god knows who that got the information god knows where; because I didn't post about it on a forum! I've had all sorts of people told that my dog has bit people, that I killed my foster dog, etc. etc. and there's no basis for any of that... THIS was the OP specifically saying that they can't take care of their dogs, but want a big strong, powerful puppy to train in Schutzhund... Uhm, no. That's a bad idea, period. And the OP is obviously dodging bullets, so I think contacting people that can stop her from getting this dog was the best idea for the future puppy's sake AND the breed's sake.

The problem is, a training club can't stop anyone from getting a dog. I certainly don't, like I said, think that the OP is equipped to properly handle, house, or train a Corso unless her living situation and maturity level change drastically in the two or more years she's claiming to be waiting for a puppy. But a training club can not prevent someone from getting a dog. That is something that would have to be taken up with a breeder.

But there is no dog, no puppy, said dog doesn't even exsist yet. When someone joins a club where they could really learn some responsibility and gain some education why would you feel the need to contact someone. Had they said "I am on a list for puppies from this litter" and you disagree... Well I still think it's a bit stalkerish but do what you will but to contact someone about a club that has the potential to greatly improve the current animals lives when there is bo real puppy currently in the mix? Creepy.

and what better place to learn about proper dog ownership and powerful breeds than a training club?
Instead of barring people we think aren't "worthy" of certain breeds or "just pet people" or whatever, why not let these people join and learn and BECOME better dog owners?

I think the training club would've been a great place for her to learn about training and the breeds she is researching. And if anything, learn that she isn't ready for the time or commitment.

Unlike contacting a breeder or rescue.. a training club is somewhere people go to LEARN, not get new dogs.

I still think the time would be better spent interacting with her current animals. But that's a whole 'nother issue.

So, harassing people online is fine because it's going to happen anyway? Really? All of this, over a pup that doesn't exist.

I have news for you, I can pick up a large metropolitan newspaper and buy Cane Corso out of the classified section tomorrow if I wanted to. For kicks I searched on kijiji and with in a few hours of me there were over 30 ads for CCs in the past 2 months. The only way you keep people from getting dogs they are not equipped to own is to educate them. The fact is that getting involved with a club of people who know dogs and can help the OP is the best thing for her, her dogs, and any possible future dogs.

:hail::hail:

Hell, any one of us could go through the newspaper and probably get a dog that would completely not fit our lifestyle or the wishes of other people on the internet and there's not a **** thing anyone on the internet can do to stop that.

Honestly, there was definitely a line crossed here.

All within a 1-2 hour drive radius of my apartment.

It's about education and being inclusive. Trying to SHUN people from having "your breed" by trying to block all avenues.. it doesn't work.

I did not do anything to anyone.

What was done was done with proof, in the best interest of preventing her from being able to do what she's doing to MORE dogs. She does not intend to join a club with her current dogs, she intends on joining with a brand new puppy that she's getting THROUGH the club that she is not in the position to take care of.

If the club knows that she cannot take care of her dogs, then perhaps they will not help her get a puppy that she cannot afford to take care of.

No one is ruining her life over this, or insulting her in any way. They are outlining facts.

want some more facts to run with?

I haven't walked my dogs in months. I have no plans to either.

I dont' buy them any dog food, never have. Some days I don't even feed them.

I don't take them to the vet, I don't give them any vaccinations other than Rabies.

Sometimes they are left alone for 12 hours, sometimes they sleep in our van when we travel, even when it's 20 below out. They can spend an entire weekend in a crate almost entirely at times.

should I get you a list of breeders I have gotten dogs from, you can send them a message. I could send the names of a few clubs I've trained with as well. You can warn them and any futures about me :)

you just learned my entire life story from an internet posting, now run with it.

Facts?
Oh! This reminds me of a commercial. Because everything you read on the Internet is true. And I know that's true because I read it on the Internet. Excuse me while I go with my French model date ;)

You can try to justify sh*tty or over the line behavior however you want to, but that doesn't change the fact that it's sh*tty or over the line behavior. You can wail about how it's "for the dogs" all you want, but that doesn't change the fact that what happened was out of line. You can say it's happened to you all you want, but that doesn't make it okay for you to do it to other people. This isn't even about the dogs she owns NOW, it's about "might have been" or "maybe in a few years" dogs. Rather than engage in sh*tty or out of line behavior, education is the key. Not "dragging someone through the ringer" because YOU don't like how they keep their dogs.

I've got news for you, plenty of people keep dogs like that. They're yard ornaments. They get food dumped to them once, maybe twice a day if they're lucky. Instead of preaching on an internet forum about how this person doesn't love her dogs enough by your standards and trying to prevent a "one day" dog, why don't you work to change the injustices in your own backyards.

I don't even know this person from adam, but frankly, I'm completely disgusted by whats happened here, and the fact that people are trying to justify it. Some people feel the exact same way you feel about this person because you (general you) use a prong collar on your dog. Or engage in bitesports. Or have more than one dog. They believe you can't possibly love your dog, care for your dog, provide a rich and full life for your dog because you do those things. They scream "abuse!!!!" if you give a correction, or put a sweater on your dog.

Everyone disagrees. To harass someone in real life because they joined a mother effing CLUB and MIGHT get a dog in the future, that's disgusting and smacks of a god complex.

Meh, that's all very clever and while I played the good cop in this scenario I know comfortably this stems from much more than a single post or a single forum.
