Yeah glad Canada is finally winning some golds... but it seems the ONE that REALLY matters... that has the most pressure may not come to fruition.

the men's hockey. Canada has the best team on paper but man they have been struggling big time. almost lost it int he last seconds tonight to slovakia (and KUDOS to slovakia for sticking around to raise their sticks and salute the crowd)

I honestly don't have a lot of faith come Sunday's game against the USA

I heard this a while ago (well before the olympics) but hadn't seen the vid thats awesome!

I think that honor belongs to the USA :p
Oh and to put things in perspective re medal count. The state of california alone has more people in it than our whole country. So realistically the US should have more medals as they have far far more people to chose from. (even if you pick the people who live in areas that get winter, still far more people)

By athlete/pop the US has a huge advantage over most countries that do well in the winter olympics.

I'm just happy seeing North Americans do well against their European and Asian counterparts (especially where those countries have traditionally dominated), don't care if they are Canadians or Americans. Go North Americans!! :D

I think its awesome that Germany is doing so well again though ^^ So go Germany as well ;)

Yeah, it was great watching Maria Reisch(?) win the last women's alpine event - felt sorry for her sister, though.

I just like watching the different winter sports (all they usually show is figure skating); I'll be sorry to see the Games over...

I can say I'm GLAD Canada is bringing in the golds! It's in their "home country" and I always like to see the home team haul it in, LOL Go Canada! :D

(if 'we' can't do it, better Canada than others, LOL)

EDIT: I wanted to say I watched that video too........VERY COOL! The part about "being ignorant, yes we have microwaves.......etc etc" LOL, I have to admit when I was a kid I thought THIS was Canada : YouTube - Sergeant Preston - Trouble At Hogback - Part 1
(I loved that show! and really wanted to move there, teehee)

But that was a KID'S point of view........I find it hard to believe there are grown ups around the world who think that way (yes, I do believe it......it's just HARD to think they are that stupid, LOL)

Have you heard of a show called Talking to Americans? An awful lot of Americans (including politicians) have some strange ideas about Canada.

Haven't heard of it so no, haven't seen it. And I'm sure you could say that for many, many countries. I know I have seen misconceptions here about the US as well as Canada.........and other countries as well. None pop to mind to show an example at the moment, but I remember reading threads and thinking WTF? Or.......wow, I didn't know that! LOL (OH! Milk in a bag was one of those threads where I went "WOW, didn't know that" LMAO!)

But thinking you are so 'primitive' as to not have microwaves? Cell phones? Satellite TV? or things along those lines? ROFL.......I LOL'd at that part of the song :D And let me tell you, shows like Jay Lenno that go "out on the street" to ask people questions..........Oy! I often wonder how many people they had to ask/edit out to get the REALLY dumb answers they show on TV. Or WTF part of town they were in, or perhaps they just wait outside of bars for the drunks to come out and answer, LOL

Side note, unrelated to Canada........I just had a conversation in the car this morning with my 10 year old son. Somehow the subject of Mexico came up (don't even remember how) and he asked me if they had internet/computers down there :rofl1: Mind you he's only 10, and was sort of offended when I let out a laugh at his serious question. I quickly apologized and explained to him that yes, they most certainly have internet, computers, and all other technology we enjoy, LOL

EDIT: And OH!! I just remembered another HILARIOUS example coming from kids! My uncle married a Japanese woman. When we were living in AZ close to them, she had her niece and nephew from Japan come stay the summer. She brought them to our house to play with us.........neither of them knew much English and of course we didn't speak Japanese.

What does my dumb brother do? He ASKS the boy (complete with sign language) if he knew what NINTENDO WAS and would he like to learn :rofl1: Keep in mind my brother was only about 10/11 at the time...........but me, my mom, and aunt burst into fits of laughter! Needless to say the boy schooled my brother in Mario quite well ROFL!!

Oh travelling in the US I have been asked if we get summer. People who DO believe we live in igloos. (I kid you not!!) We Canadians watch a lot of US tv/news, travel, and in short generally have a decent idea what is going on the the south. But when talking to random people on the net I find most europeans have less of a skewed idea of what canada is like than americans. Particularly those from more southern states.

(the shoe thing threw me, never thought removing your shoes could be considered anything but polite)

You be surprised how many people seriously ask if we have electricity in Oklahoma. Or if we live in teepees. lol

Oh and so many people have some really silly misconceptions about Teas too.

I'd be more apt to believe all Alaskans live in igloos than you guys, ROFL.......and no, I don't believe that about them either, LOL

As for the shoe thing, I've always grown up and been around people who do that, and I find it's the polite thing to do and so do they.

(maybe Sergeant Preston and King influenced me more than I realized ROFL)
