He is a reg. American Staffordshire Terrier (Thus my name "Amstaffer") But there is really very little difference between the two (about 65yrs of breeding). Amstaffs can be signed up as Pit Bulls with the UKC.

I don't get upset when people call my dogs Pit Bulls (Athena is a rescue so is a street Pit Bull; her mother was used in a Pit Fighting ring as a breeder) because I realize many people use the term Pit Bull to address many different breeds. My family's nickname for my two dogs is "Those Pit Dogs" this is a name of pure affection.

Some Breeders (Sal's mom and dad owner) get very upset when people call their dogs Pit Bull.
Ahh..I was going to mention this but you beat me to it...they're both one in the same according to their history...so yes, well put...:)

I don't think there's any breed that I can say I'd never own.. I used to say small yappy toy dogs.. but have since fallen in love with some..
I think if there was ANY dog of a specific breed that I really felt a connection with I wouldn't care about all the other stuff that I didn't like about them.. I'd just deal with it.. I used to NEVER want a dog that shed much.. but my two.. well.. lets just say there's an excessive coating of fur all over the house.. :)

I would never NOT own any breed.. whatever dog I fall in love with, I don't care what breed they are.
If I had to chose breeds I would never pick on my own I would say:

goldens, labs, pits, longhaired toy breeds (too much work),border collies (they need too much exercise), rottweilers, a few others..but if I fell in love with one, breed wouldn't matter.

I am more for mixed breeds though.

"Any hound, because they stink"
I have 7 dachshunds.. and I must say, they don't stink at all. I give them a bath about once a month, maybe longer, and I never have a smell problem.

oh, and pugs are not hounds, so your parents pug that smells, would not be considered a smelly hound.

Thinking more.. I don't think I would ever get a pit, or a pit mix.

I don't like small dogs, they seem to be snippy...some anyway. I love how dobermans, rotties, pit bulls, amstaff look. I think they are the most beautiful dogs. I don't think I'd be comfortable owning one though. Most terriers are off my list, but I really do like the Kerry Blue. Beautiful dogs as well, i'm a dog park type person though.

Labs. They are so grossy over breed right now. Plus I have yet to meet a lab that was smart (sorry to you zombe lab lovers.) I also think that people are starting to over breed border collies, not that I would never get one but boarder collies just aren't as good as they use to be. I would also never get a male blue or red healer. We had one and even though he was nudered he had terible agression problems and atacked my oldest neigh and had him on the ground. I have heard many similure storys about blue/red healer males. The day that Rusty atacked my neigh was the day that dad shot him, never liked that dog. Pit bulls, are also on my to avoid list simply because of the risk.

I always thought I would never, ever own a small dog--which I would have considered anything under 30 pounds. I never liked poodles, shih tzus, bichons, etc. And...now I have a bichon/poodle mix who I adore! :p So, you really never know...though I still definitely prefer bigger dogs.
Hehe...funny how I said this after owning Lucy for only 5 days LOL.

I feel that I can now say I won't own a small breed again. Lucy is great and all...she just doesn't compare to a big dog. She's too small for me to *really* play with (like how I always wrestle with Molly..it'd probably kill Lucy!), and I lose her way too easily lol. There'll be times where I look away for just 2 seconds, and suddenly she's gone.

I just can't do the small dog thing! I think the only small dog I would consider owning in the future is a papillon...or a sheltie, but they're not ittsy bittsy small, their size doesn't bother me. There are plenty of big dogs I want to own though, so I don't think I'll get around to owning a papillon/sheltie anyway lol.

I tend to agree with you there, Southpaw. There are some real perks to small dogs, but I think I prefer the bigger guys. My Papillon is not too delicate anymore (he was terribly fragile and sensitive when he was younger) but i still worry more about him than I do my Border Collie. My Pap, due to his small size, cannot run offlead anywhere but in our own fenced yard. He can squeeze out of nearly any fence. I love Ripley but I'm not sure if I'd get another dog under 30lbs.
My Border Collie is a great size, I think. 45lbs, big enough to be very sturdy but small enough to be relatively easy to travel with. Big enough to be intimidating to intruders, small enough to be inexpensive to feed... I love BC size but I still do need my giant breed dog. Then I'll have had nearly every "size" dog out there.

Southpaw, this is also very random but I cannot get over how much your Molly looks like my Elway. Both are plain fawn Boxers with the exact same expression and black mask on their face. I'll have to dig up an old picture of Elway to compare to Molly.

I would never own a Lab, GSD, Collie, Border Collie, Golden, Poodle, Sheltie, Beagle, Doxie etc. Basically, the requirements for my house are smooshed in faces and lazy activity levels LOL! I really do prefer small dogs or REALLY giant dogs. I don't really like much in-between.

I couldn't own any breed I didn't feel comfortable with. I'd be open to any dog... but before I buy a dog of any kind I'd spend time with it and see if it was compatible. If I don't feel the connection its not going to happen.

The only breed I cannot own is a pitbull. I was attacked by one while I was babysitting my neighbours kids. It has turned me off the breed for life. I'm sure there are wonderful pitties out there but I can't own one.

Hmm... a few of the toy breeds I could never own. I wouldn't want to own the larger sighthounds, and breeds with smooshed faces don't appeal to me much. Other than that, I'm really not picky at all. I'm open to any dog that can find a place in my heart and home. :)

I am a vet tech and see soo many breeds a day, they ones that I would never own would be Rottis, Pitbulls, cocker spaniels, german shepherds and st. bernards, oh and also dalmations. I feel all are completely unpredictable and not too good. In the small dog dept. I would never own chi's or min pinsactually come to think of it the only small dog I would consider would be shih-tzu or pomeranians. Just my 2 cents and i know there are good dogs in every breed, these are just the ones I have the most trouble with.
