Renee750il, I'm so glad we could help with the education of the APBT breed, they are so misunderstood by the public :(

Chaz members lets see how you do on finding the APBT.

http://www.pitbullsontheweb.com/petbull/findpit.html

Please post your results here ;)
I did get it right on the first try, I was chatting with Renee at the time and didn't realize that you could click the pic to tell you if you were right! LOL

But if I am to be completely honest, there are PLENTY of times I get APBT and Dogos completely confused, and I feel like a fairly informed dog person. Not a genius or anything, but informed.

I know to a APBT person that is probably ridiculous, but it's true for me :)

First link you posted I get right every time. The APBT just screams APBT.

Second I thought none of them looked like an APBT, but guessed #18.. of course I was wrong. :D

Number three... NONE of them look like well-bred APBTs to me.

Number four.. LOL!!!!

Hey I got the 1st 1 right and I've never seen half those dogs in real life (most aren't common in the UK)

Which is all down to lurking around reading all the posts about APBT's on this site. I am aware there is prejudice against certain breeds and mistaken identity in the UK but I hadn't realised how bad it was across the 'pond' in the US.

I was watching one of those animal cop programmes the other day (can't remember which one) 2 puppies were rescued from a garden one a German Shepherd and one a APBT both were maybe younger than 6 months. The camera crew followed the rescue and the follow up in the centre. The narrator mentioned the APBT once but continually talked about the (in his words) friendly German Shepherd by the forth time I'm shouting at the screen "Hey MUPPET there are 2 puppies there!!"

Anyway enough rambling just like to say thank you to all the responsible APBT owners on here who (even if they don't know it) are teaching me loads

Renee As far as I'm aware

the Pit Bull Terrier
the Japanese tosa
the Dogo Argentino
the Fila Brasileiro

Are the dogs banned in England this includes 'type' so if it looks like one of the above you are going to end up with a battle to keep it.

Defra (Department for enviroment, food, and rural affairs) also 'suggest' they aren't going to know the difference between a Pit Bull and an American Staffy so I guess that goes on the list too

Wow what a great thread.
I should add my 2 sense.

I would not own a Pitty, Rottie, Mastiff, or any other large breed. Yes I have considered them, yes i would love to own one, yes I do adore all breeds. But I do not think I am strong enough to own a breed that large. It has NOTHING to do with the media or anyone else judging me. I KNOW I am not strong enough for breeds so large, as of now. As large as I would go for now is an Aussie and Lab, simply b/c I know these breeds, I own these breeds, I have been around them pretty much my whole life. Granted one day when I KNOW I'm capable of owning such a huge breed, I will own one. A Bernese Mountain Dog, Great Dane, and a Rottie are on my top list to own when I get to that point.

To be honest, GA is one of the WORST places I have ever seen about Pitties, Rotties, etc on the news. All I hear is "A Pit Bull attacked someone", "A Rottweiler got loose and someone died" etc etc... Yes I blame the owners of these crimes cause THEY did not train their dogs and take care of them like they should be taken care of. Pit Bulls are VERY strong animals, as to any other large breed, and BEFORE you take on such a breed/s you should know how to take care of one. Don't buy one to look "cool" or "strong".

Sorry if I got off topic but thats my 2sense.
