I actually don't think there are that many breeders (percentage-wise) on this forum. It's kind of funny that it would appear that way to you, because not that long ago someone called this forum the "anti-breeder" forum .. *LOL*
I'm not a breeder, at least not yet. After training and showing horses for several years (and teaching lessons and being a 4-H leader) I went into dogs instead. They're much easier to transport and they eat slightly less. I got my first "serious" dog in 1988 and started showing in obedience in 1989 and have continued on ever since. I have nearly 30 performance titles on my dogs so far (16 in obedience, others in agility, rally and a bit of herding and schutzhund - that's not counting CGC's, HIC's, tracking certs, etc.).
I did a lot of studying of dog behavior and training throughout the years with a number of people I admire (and a few I don't, but I listened to them anyway .. *L*). I started my own business in training and behavior consultations, but most of my teaching is done as a volunteer for a local dog group. I'm currently teaching freestyle but have taught everything from puppy kindergarten to utility competition obedience along with agility and rally. I enjoy teaching.
Now, in my 19th year of training dogs, I feel I may be ready to breed one of mine. She has titles yet to earn and health certifications to pass, but she's a pretty great example of her breed.
I don't see many real arguments here, not like you see on other forums. People disagree at times but it's pretty minor. You'll see a quick reaction to someone wanting to breed indiscriminately, or breed without health clearances, or train their dogs using a lot of harsh techniques. Many of us here are pretty adamant about certain breeding concepts or training methods, but overall this is a friendly forum and very peaceful considering how diversified we are.
I hope you enjoy it here -
