I'm not a breeder...I'm only 15. I had my dog from the time I was four and I love so I learned to love dogs. I didn't really start to be his main care taker 'till I was 10ish, but by the end I bathed him, brushed him, fed him, walked him, took him out (except the last time he went out at 10:00pm, I um...am kinda scared of the dark  ). He was mostly mine (except for the paying for everything part). I don't plan on becoming a breeder but I would like to become a vet. All my dogs will be from shelters/rescues. I have learned a lot about dogs here and I learned very quickly. Before I thought I knew everything about dogs, simply because I knew more than everybody in my family and of all my friends, I was wrong, plus all my old thoughts lied with older training methods like leash corrections (I never believed in hitting a dog though) and mixing positive training with negative training. Now I know better. I would like to stay a member of this forum for the rest of my life if I can, That would be awesome. I want my dogs to have the best life possible and I believe that begins with understanding them and their behavior and how they learn the best you can. Guess I kinda went off topic...oh well;)

I really enjoy this forum and we're certainly nothing to be afraid of.

Or wait, I'll take that back. I send my attack dog (*points down*) to ward off all newcomers. ;)

This turned out to be a GREAT thread!! Thanks for all the comments. I feel much better about being here now......
I'm glad you posted it. I hope, too, that some of those who are a bit more, er, adamant about expressing their views to newcomers will take note and learn to dial it back a bit and teach, rather than launch a full frontal attack.

Ditto Renee..

I love people who practice what they preach and you do.
Patience of a saint at times.
We need people who walk the talk and less of empty words.
I will take 2 of you to go and a shot of Starbucks for the long nite ahead.

That would be good Renee because I can see how some newbies might be scared off by those attacks. I see a lot of young people on here and they really have little control over their environments and decisions concerning pets. I am not thin skinned and I really just try to avoid those arguments as I am not educated enough about dogs to participate anyway. I enjoy the camraderie (sp?) though.

Yeah, another Collie person! Welcome!

I'm a Collie breeder. I'd actually say the majority of this forum is educated pet owners, but not *that* many breeders.

I can't speak for all, but most of us love to help people who have questions, otherwise we (I anyway) wouldn't be here.

Great thread... I've been in the industry for 24 years. Am a trainer and commercial kennel owner. I show in conformation as well. A lot of fun credits to my name, but what I've enjoyed most about Chaz is what a diverse group this is!! (Especially how many very passionate young people there are posting about their dogs.) We have pet owners from 14 to 70+ years of age, breeders, groomers, trainers, people in rescue, veterinarians, college students, you name it. We all love dogs and we all have a pretty cool place to come and share that.

Welcome to the board!

I have been in and around dog showing since I was a tiny tot( 20 yrs now) and after my foundation bitch gets finished and health tested I do plan to breed her and carry on the great lines of Rottweilers that my family has laid out for me to continue.

There are alot of knowledgable people on this board and I think you will fit in great!

Welcome to the board
