If you feel your life is so bad, oh well get over it. I come from a family where I was taught no one is going to nurture you your whole life and you must stand on your own two feet. Not everyone is going to like you, and yeah jerks will pick on you but you move on, not drown in self pity and say "oh my life is so bad, buh-huh". I have dealt with ALOT of things in my life so far and I never ONCE thought of suicide and I know more bad things are coming my way but I value my life and I will not allow people to take my happiness from me. I, in no way, see this as a laughing matter or pathetic, I just see it as sad, that people let other people dictate their life and their fate. Why give the other poeple the power? I am shocked at how little people value themselves.

You just don't get the point. It is not about dealing with things...it is something that develops deep inside of you.. People who are depressed to that point where they want to kill themselves don't do it because their noodle is too small..people pick on them, or they don't care about their families. I've seen in it my grandfather. And trust me, he values himself. Things are not always black and white.

I suffer from depression and I recently began taking anti-depressants and not once have I thought of suicide. I really could care less about those who kill themselves because they "can't take it". No one said life was easy. So you can keep making excuses for them but I really don't care. You may think I'm a cold hearted b*tch, but thats me, so get over it.

I'm surprised at how heartless some people are.

Like Dizzy said, I hope none of you ever have to deal with a loved one who is suicidal. I can't count the nights I've spent crying my eyes out because my best friend thinks she's better off dead. Yes, it is a selfish thing but unless you have BEEN suicidal, I don't think you have any idea what it feels like. Even if you -have-, things are different for every person. I doubt that his size was the sole reason for him killing himself, but you know, it's really none of my business...

Not sad? Tell that to his girlfriend and loved ones.

Uuuuuuh....nice attitude! Honestly, I really don't care what you are. I just thought I try to bring some shades of grey into your world...but obviously there's no room for second thoughts.
Now let me find some kleenex to cry into while I try to get over it!
If it wasn't so sad it would be funny :p

wow - I am so suprised at people's lack of empathy...

If people are depressed and crying daily, self harming, miserable we help them and feel for them, but if they feel like killing themselves they get NO sympathy?

I just hope you guys don't ever have to face a loved one who is suicidal..
me too Dizzy i am basically shocked. what about the police officer that handled the katrina crisis..i doubt even one of us could have handled that any better then he did..from what i understand he was incredible. Then he took his life. He has all my sympathy as do anyone else that cant see or cant feel anymore for what ever reason that takes them there. A couple facts that i learned on a research paper on this topic once..if one member of the family commits suicide, it raises the potential that another member will follow, and of those that do survive their attempt, all stated that they changed their mind after it was too late. I don't remember the sources anymore but it probably wouldn't be too hard to find. My ex's brother commited suicide. His father found him and never fully recovered the shock. His brother was ill, lost his job, had a wife and child he could no longer support and his wife informed him that she was pg again. He was failing and his illness made it impossible for him to ever recover. From what i understand he was a perimedic too.
Maybe other men could have survived this crisis, but he wasnt other men. He has my sympathy too.

AS does so many others i have known either personally or socially. One was the father of a scout. Active in the troop. Police officer. He was a very nice man to everyone i ever saw him come in contact with.

If you read one of my previous post you will see that I do feel bad for the family and friends, but not the person who killed themselves. It is us left behind that must deal with the pain.

Yep, no room in my mind for YOUR opinions. You think I give a f*ck what you think? What makes you think you are so important as to faze me? I am so sick and tired of your funky little attitude, so think what you want, but I have my opinions and you have yours. Get a life and go harrass someone else.

Just currious. How long has it been going on for? I wouldn't deal with a friend like that...If a friend of mine came to me with something like that...at first they would get sympathy...and advice to get professional help. The second time they would get the same...and I would call their family and talk to them about it. The third I would do the same...but this time I am starting to wonder why they are doing it....the fourth I would put an end to it.....There wouldn't be countless nights for me...no thanks.....I guess I am not as good a friend as you...

Excuse me? What's the reason to get so aggrevated here, my dear? Well, you don't have to care what I think...I just thought since this is a DISCUSSION forum... ah well.
Funky little attitude? :) Get a life and go harrass someone else? :) Hehe. Noted.

Yeah, this is a discussion forum but since you didn't like my opinion you got all rude. Now its my turn. You are so.... never mind, let me not lower myself to your ignorance level. Sarcasm shows how much of the bigger person you are, sarcasm is a weakness. I don't give a crap what you have to say, so take your little "oh I'm so innocent" act elsewhere.

When people have medical issues like liver malfunction, blindness, heart disease, cancer or even a bad toothache, they get sympathy, but when the brain has a malfunction that we dont understand we find it amusing even when it results in the persons death. Just an observation, I dont feel that the world is underpopulated so people do have to die, I dont really get very sympathetic or sad over death. It just seems odd that if I got on here crying about how bad <choose an organ> hurt me to the point of wanting to end my life it would get sympathy as long as it wasnt a mental illness that drove me to that point.

It's been going on for about a year.

It is aggravating to me sometimes because I don't really know why she is doing it, but she's my friend and all I can really do is be there for her and suggest endlessly that she get help. I can't just drop the friendship - we've been best buds since grade school and she is there for me when I'm emo and depressed as well.

But this thread isn't about me or my relationships. /mini-hijack.

Dobiegurl, what you say makes sense - no need to feel sorry for him because he killed himself. He got his relief. I don't feel sorry for him for being dead, I feel sorry for him because he felt that his life was meaningless enough to end it. Whoo, doesn't that make sense? lol

There has to be more to that story.

Yes, people do kill themselves for stupid, selfish reasons. People also kill themselves because it seems like the best option. Each person is different, and until you have been at the edge of that hole yourself, staring down into a well of utter blackness, you just can't really understand what would drive a person to it. Not every depressed person is suicidal and not every suicidal person is all that depressed.

And Dobiegurl, I don't give a f*ck either about my opinons not fitting into your little mindset, but grow up and get some compassion.
