LOL well Shelties can be fairly exhuberant when it comes to play time and they are a dog that need a fair amount of exercise but they play well with ANY dog they come across no matter what size.

I know many Belgian owners that have Belgians and Shelties as their pets hehe They just seem to go.

Jada plays with anything that moves, Crosbie is the same way.

Because they are herding dogs - they will run circles around you or another animal or an object though lol Just a characteristic of them lol

Maybe get a Brussels Griffin?

As far as I know, Otis is from a responsible breeder. He's pet quality though, definitely over the standard.

This is a little OT, but Showpug, why do I see so many HUGE pugs in the ring? I was at a show recently and the pugs that I saw there were HUGE. No way did they weigh between 14-18lbs. Maybe some of the females did, but the males definitely didn't. Is there a standard for weight or just for height?
You see so many HUGE pugs in the ring because they are bred way over standard!!! Drives me crazy...these breeders are ruining the breed by breeding them so large:mad: . Have they forgotten, this is a TOY breed? Designed to be good luck charms and lap dogs NOT weight pullers! The AKC standard calls for the pug to weigh between 14-18 lbs. Females are generally 14-16 lbs. and males 16-18 lbs. The giants in the ring make my girl look like a weenie and she's 16lbs. Some breeders out there still care, but a lot do not.

personally i think you should get a terrier, just because they are less fragile but some are quite small

cairn terriers
norfolk terriers
norwhich terriers
affenpinscher
brussels griffon
or a gorgeous border terrier

When I was little I had a Sheltie for about 2 wks until my mom re-homed it.

His name was Joe-bu-delux.. lol

That dog would tear around the yard in circles.. mom went nuts because he was hyper and gave him away

I think Shelties are pretty.

DixiesMom..

I love your dog!! Very girly indeed :D

I can see myself with one of those :p

lol! Thank you! I wish I had some pictures of her in her ribbons -TOO CUTE! :D I miss her so much. She was a sweetie. Good luck in finding a small breed!! :) I love 'em!

Thanks for all the replies!

I think Im going to look for a Cairn Terrier

They seem to be tough little dogs, and would be a good match for Binn.

And they are Irish too :D

I know several Carins. Very spunky, hardy little dogs. Sounds like a good fit for what you're looking for! I personally could never *own* one, but I do like them from afar ;)

Terriers are brill dogs to own, small but just dont realise it! lol. I own a westie and they are so clever and so heart felt cute. Terriers are hardy dogs tho and need a lot of walking, they certainely no lap dogs. Remember tho westies are white (I have a never ending battle of trying to keep him clean) lol. They also need to visit the groomers a few times a year. Fab dogs tho

Cairns are Scottish, like Westies and Scotties. They were all bred together in days long ago. The Scottie is the biggest boned, then the Westie and the cairn is the smallest. Certain bottles of Whisky have the Scottie and the Wesite on them. Orignally all Westies were the colour of cairns but along time ago when they were out hunting with them the got confused with foxes and often shot so some breeders bred them white to tell the difference. Cairns are brill dogs and I can honestly say they will never look as dirty as a Westie after a long walk in the woods. good luck with your choice and let us know what you decide.

what about a japanese spitz, i love those dogs

Alert, high-spirited and playful dogs who will fit into almost every lifestyle. They love family life and will not cause any problems for other household pets. They are good with children if raised with them and adore a ‘rough and tumble’. They become very protective over them. They can tend to be rather reserved with strangers and unknown children but, with their own families will be affectionate and loyal. They are very aware of their surroundings and what is going round about them, always watching and listening. They do not normally bark unless something has upset them.

Good Choice! They're cuties! I wish I could get pix off of my Cell and put them on here. We were at the pet store in the Mall the day before yesterday, and (although we know better than to buy one) we LOVE holding the little puppies there, and my dad ADORES Cairns and we held one of the Wheaten colored ones, and she was soooo sweet! I took pictures w/ my Cell, but we had only just gotten them 20 minutes before we got to the Mall, so I still don't know how to get them to the comp... Good luck w/ your little guy/girl!!

*I have 2 friends w/ Cairns. (Toto, and Abbie) and if they're the standard size, they wouldn't fit in a bag....I want to say Abbie is around 17lbs, and Toto is probably at least 15lbs. They may make bags that size, but I'll tell you, my shoulder is aching after lugging around Dixie in her bag! lol! (she's 3 & 1/2lbs).

Edit: I just looked at the standards, and it's 13lbs females, 14lbs males, so that's not bad....:)
