    Chazhound disappointment

I was ran off from this forum by the attacks. I still check in on occasions and chuckle at the training comments. It's a one-sided, opinionated forum and I found that it wasn't worth the added stress to be here.

    Any herding people?

I would like to start herding this year with Faith, my collie, but don't even know where to begin. It's one thing I honestly haven't been exposed to at all. Any info?

Wdj`s Top Approved Wet Dog Foods

I love the Merrick cans. I used to have Faith on them, but now she's on a "special diet" Natural Balance, Sweet Potatoe and Fish

Ok, I agree with you there. I didn't mean that in that way. I simply meant that you can't ignore the fact that they act shy. And that you can't be too soft on them. They are approached differently, but not flooded.

    Off on the wrong foot

I have seen how the military train their dogs. I've also seen how little control they had. Made me feel safe...yeah right.

I'm sorry, I got mad for a minute there. Let temper take over. I didnt mean that. Well, not completely at least.

What Do You People Do For Shy Dogs???? Just Let Them Be Shy??? You Can't Feel Sorry For Them, You Have To Push Them. If Not, You Are A Disgrace To Dog Trainers. I Have Never Been More Appalled.

    Puppy Development

If you are uneducated about this school as I said than you can't have any knowledge of what I am talking about. Go for yourself, try the methods out and see what you think. DON'T use your own while there, simply use theirs and see what you think, then you can judge.

    Off on the wrong foot

My own collie is occassionally treated more like a human than a dog...BUT not to the extent that her training has been ruined. I love my dog with everything in me. I would give my life for her just as she would for me, but like I've already said...she's a dog, not a person. Like Julie said...

National K-9 School for Dog Trainers Graduate. You can automatically say whatever you want, but unless you've gone and studied there, you've no right to judge.

    Off on the wrong foot

They are dogs, not reptiles?? How do you think I treat my reptiles then? I am trying to start over here, but if it's not going to work, then I'm just done. People should be able to keep an open mind to different techiniques. I am in the process of learning positive, because I feel that I...

Well, I guess that is one thing we will just disagree on.

    Off on the wrong foot

Ok, since I seem to have gotten a bad start here, I would like to get to know everyone. I am a dog trainer and I graduated from National K-9. I have been training for several years now and have tried several methods. So far, I have found that each dog does best with a custom method, lol. My...

    Abused Training Tools

No offense at all. I just haven't really seen a lot of posting since I got on here, so I haven't had much to answer yet. Please, I am not a know-it-all, lol. I just post these so that people know my opinions. I tend to run into arguments later on if people don't know off the bat.

    Puppy Development

Thanks, I will read through it tonight. I am not saying that positive methods are wrong. I am simply saying that the other methods are not cruel as you seem to think. My dog was not abused by these methods. She is a happy, loving, spirited little gal. They simply made her reliable. I can...

    Puppy Development

I haven't studied it, but rather had a positive trainer I know explain it to me. Sorry, if I've the wrong idea. Please, by all means, explain it properly to me. She must have given me the wrong idea.

I will have to do that later. Thanks for the idea.

In my opinion, you shouldn't need a constant training method to keep your house in order. We have 15 collies at the kennel, most of which live in the house, the others live in a barn. By the way, that is not my choice, they are not my kennels, I just happen to be the stepdaughter of a breeder...

    Abused Training Tools

Since this is such a positive forum, I am posting this. It's not to upset anyone or start a huge fight. I just think that any tool can be abused and if used properly, most tools are humane.I'm really tired of hearing people say that pinch collars are evil and "choke" chains kill dogs. I hear...

I am learning clicker training right now. I have no problem with it. It helps the dog understand what he is learning. But, even though I love the concept and can use it to teach a new command, I won't rely on it. The dog needs to be weaned off of the clicker once the command is learned in my...
