    "rare" GSD breeder

Actually, there are many reputable working breeders "playing" in Schutzhund. As it was pointed out earlier, though Schutzhund is considered a sport by many, it is still a good test of courage, nerves and overall temperament. The people who like to criticize are usually the ones sitting on the...

    Nature's Variety Raw Instinct

I'm currently feeding Evo but was given a few sample packs of the Raw Instinct. I'm puzzled by a couple of major ingredients, specifically the tapioca (2nd ingredient) and pumpkin seeds (4th ingredient). The tapioca sounds like a filler to me. Does anyone know what value these two ingredients...

Fed up of your dog? just trade him for another

It's too bad that you didn't jump into this thread sooner. You could have offered your own advice on what to do with the shepherd. Try to rehome it with a family, turn it into a shelter for adoption, return it to the original breeder, hand it over to be bred by someone like Heather, trade it for...

Fed up of your dog? just trade him for another

You'll probably find that on most dog forums, it often IS about the dog. You'll also find that dog people are among some of the most compassionate anywhere.

Fed up of your dog? just trade him for another

What is wrong with what? Handing him over to be indiscriminately bred by a BYB? If you don't know the problem with that by now, then you have a very different idea about dog ownership than many of the people here. <My guess is Heather's pal, Pete, the silver lab breeder. Notice the use of...

Fed up of your dog? just trade him for another

If you read the thread, you'll realize that it never was about her child. It was about the fact that the landlord said her dog was too large to live in her home. She was quite willing to take on another dog and said she had the means to feed and vet it, hence the trade for another breed.

Fed up of your dog? just trade him for another

Consider reading the entire thread. She received plenty of support and lots of options, but in the end the dog became a disposable commodity. Anyone who is a true dog lover would have a problem with that.

Fed up of your dog? just trade him for another

If at least one person reads this thread and learns the difference between a BYB and a reputable breeder, then it won't be a lost cause at all. Though no one will be able to make Heather or Lisa understand the error of their ways, there may be other future puppy buyers who see Heather's web site...

Fed up of your dog? just trade him for another

Crazy, isn't it? :yikes: I doubt that the dog is actually there, but he's listed on Heather's web site as Stud 2 and she already has plans to breed him to one of her females.

Fed up of your dog? just trade him for another

Sadly, it doesn't seem to be a joke. She already has the dog on her web site as her new stud and plans to breed him to her dog Sky, who appears to be a shepherd mix. If anyone ever wondered how a BYB thinks and operates, this is the perfect example.

Fed up of your dog? just trade him for another

This would be funny if it wasn't so sad. Isn't your male <gasp> showlines? And isn't Heather a breeder of "quality working German shepherds"? Do you really think this is the best life for him?

Fed up of your dog? just trade him for another

There's also Amber, the female GSD puppy that was boarded and then claimed by the person boarding her....who wasn't the breeder. But this same breeder (I believed you referred to the person as a "jerk") is going to give you another shepherd puppy. The whole story is very bizarre. This other...

Fed up of your dog? just trade him for another

How can a boarding kennel try to force you to breed your dog? Or maybe a litter was payment for boarding? Sounds strange. Sorry, but I hate to hear when dogs get bounced around from place to place. I know people can run into difficult situations but I've seen so many messed-up shepherds that...

Fed up of your dog? just trade him for another

Is that the breeder? Didn't she come from Alpenhof? I've heard that's a very reputable kennel.

Fed up of your dog? just trade him for another

That's an excellent point and illustrates how risky it can be to purchase a dog through a classified ad. You just never know which details are being left out.

Fed up of your dog? just trade him for another

It's really not about you. It's about preventing a dog from being bounced from home to home, and possibly landing in the wrong home. If he's aggressive to male dogs and chases cats, then there are issues to consider. I think people here are trying to give you options so you don't have to rehome...

Fed up of your dog? just trade him for another

If the landlord allowed you to acquire or move in with the dog originally, then I don't think he can legally force you to give up the dog simply due to size. Unless you signed a lease stating no dogs were allowed, I believe you have the right to keep your dog.

Fed up of your dog? just trade him for another

He sounds like he might be a challenging dog that needs a firm, consistent owner. I hope she's very careful about finding him a new home. :(

That is the same dog. How sad....in late July, she was talking about how thrilled she was with her new dog. I wonder what happened?

Fed up of your dog? just trade him for another

This is southwestern Ontario in Canada. No, I don't think trading in your dog for another is particularly common. Maybe your car but not your pets...;) If I were to hazard a guess, I think the situation would be this: I wanted a big, intimidating dog and now I can't handle my big, intimidating...
