    A Very Difficult Decision

Congratulations on making an incredibly difficult, but incredibly responsible decision. A lot of the groups who are on PetFinder.com are willing to arrange transport of dogs that are adopted by someone who is farther away. I've been a part of several such transport chains, one of which moved...

    Dog Collars

Mine wear collars ALWAYS!!! I leave them loose enough that they can back out of them if they should get caught on something, and only tighten them up when they're on lead. Instead of tags, I have metal plates attached to their collars that have their names, my phone #s, promise of reward for...

    Advantage flea control drops

Some dogs and cats do have allergic reactions to Advantage and other "spot-on" treatments. It's rare, but not unheard of. Often they can use a different product and be fine. My Rerun reacted to Advantage, but is fine with Frontline. Talk to your vet, and see what s/he thinks. Beth

    ID my dog please!

This is what is known in my area as an Arkansas Prank Hound, or All-American Pocket Pup. :D Beth

He Only Pees On The Carpet

The crating is good the way you described it, as long as your attitude is good when you put him in. Don't put him in as a punishment, but as a prevention. Beth

    Drive thru breeder

I had someone once ask me about breeding to Taz, who was standing next to me at the time. He's a beautiful boy, but... shall we say... he has no dangly bits. If someone doesn't even notice the absence of such equipment, how could they possibly have looked him over well enough to know if he...

    Dog Food

Some dogs, if fed lots of rich table foods, develop pancreatitis. It sounds to me as if this is what's going on with your baby. If so, she needs a very bland diet until she's better, and you'll need to be careful with her diet even after she's recovered. Your vet should be able to give you a...

    Are my dogs aggressive??

I agree with Tucker. Barkers should be welcome in group classes... the high exposure to other dogs in a controlled setting makes it easier to desensitize them. Try a REAL trainer. Beth

    Dog Carting

Have you tried it yet? I had Taz between the shafts training for the first time yesterday. He doesn't really have any idea what's going on, but doesn't seem to mind the cart. Of course, he's still a LOOOONG way from pulling while I ride! ;) Beth

    Dog Carting

Is anyone else into carting, driving, or sledding with their dogs? I'm trying to get a group together here. I just got my first driving cart for Taz today. Beth

The Most Expensive Collar you ever bought?

About $45. Two inch black leather with double tounged buckle. But... I'm about to spend some real money on freighting harnesses, I'm afraid. Beth

what all good dogs should know

Mine know all the basic commands (sit, down, stand, pay attention, stay, heel), house manners commands (go to your bed, kennel up, go potty, Hurry up, hup, off, move it, wait here, settle), plus they all know targeting with both paw and nose. Moses knows "Go get ______ (insert name of toy)."...

    Dog never eats

A couple of suggestions... First, do stick to the fifteen minute rule. One thing that has worked very well for me is to take a great quality kibble, soak it in hot water for fen minutes, then puree it with cooked chicken or hamburger (including the juices). Start with mostly meat, then, if...

    Which breed?

I don't know about where you live, but here you should NOT get a "Beware of Dog" sign if you have a dog. It's considered admission that you have an aggressive, dangerous dog. Beth
