For those that know what their next dog will/might be. ;)

Will it be a rescue from a rescue/shelter, etc or from a breeder? Spill the beans too if you wanna. :D

From a breeder. If Nyx works out to breed, it'll be out of her. If not, then I don't know what it will be, but it will be from a breeder.

Greyhound rescue in the far far away future. I want a girl that I can dress up in pink, but if the right boy comes along I guess I can stand for the girls to be outnumbered. :p

most likely a purebred, but i don't know where from yet. shelter, rescue, breeder. i'm keeping my options open at this point. it'll be awhile and i don't know what my life will be at that point, or whether a pup would be possible.

Probably a rescue.

The problem with living in NYC apartments is that you cant have BIG dogs... plus now that I have Armani who only weighs 4 pounds I would worry about getting anything too big.

I really want to rescue so I would probably try some purebred rescues that fit my size requirement... although I dont care if the dog is purebred or not it would just be the easiest way to find that size.

I have been doing alot of research and I am in love with Shiba Inu's and they sound like good apartment dogs as they can get along with just a few good long walks during the day but they seem to have a resource guarding problem from what I have read and they reccommend them being "only children" which just wont work for me... however, when it gets closer to me getting another one I will do more research on that issue and see if it is really true.

I chose not sure at all.

My mind changes daily, but I have a lot of time to think about it. I will not be getting another dog until Izzy and Frodo are gone, and I'm planning that to be at least 20, 30 years ;)

However, I plan on fostering greyhounds as soon as I move out. :)

My advice is to spend a lot of time with Shiba's before you decide on one. They are definitally not a breed for everyone.

The reason I don't know at all is that I haven't decide the situation will be. If Sal is elderly when Athena dies, then I will adopt a older female from a shelter for Sal to live out his time with.

If Sal and Athena go about the same time then I am thinking about getting a puppy and I am in the very early research of Boerboels. If that is what ends up happening then I will go with the very best breeder I can find.

Amen to that! My sister has one and while he's cute, he's a pain in the butt. (the nights we've spent chasing that dog through the woods for hours when he slipped out the front door past anyone coming in or out!) I don't think I will EVER have one, especially after spending time with hers, lol.

I chose not sure at all... my dogs usually choose me. And it depends on what the situation is at the time we're ready for another dog. Probably not until Rhea passes which hopefully won't be for another 5-6 years or so. Plus we will be moving to a new city and hubby will be starting a new career in about 3 years, so who knows what'll be going on.

Well Like I said I would have to do a TON of research still but from what I have read the only thing I worry I cant handle is the resource guarding... if it is a question of training then thats fine but some places make it seem more inherent which concerns me.

Breeder unless a rescue just happened to come up. I don't think the chances of finding a Chinese Crested, Cavalier, or Papillon puppy in rescue when I decide to get another dog are very high, though.

Depending on timing and stuff, my next dog will be from a breeder. It's just a question of which breed it will be. :p However, I also have my eye on Aussie Rescue for a special one to come along as well.

I wish Tempura Tantrum was still posting, she has a couple Shiba's and the stories she tells... :yikes: VERY high prey-drive dogs with all stage, including kill and eat, very stubborn, very brave...these are dogs that are used to hunt wild boar back in Japan. If you're doing your research that's awesome, but I also highly recommend hanging out with as many Shiba's as possible. Besides their size, there's not much else that seems to make them suitable for apartments, IMO.

I'm not really sure. We both want a purebred, the predictability of a purebred would be nice. But we both love Sierra dearly, and I think we'd really be happy with another rescue as well!

I said purebred from breeder, but if my next dog ends up being a Malinois I want an adult, so whether it be an adult from a breeder or an adult through rescue I won't be too picky as long as it can work.

I said maybe a rescue or maybe a pure bred.
I am aiming on a breeder but I spend too much time looking through rescue sites and thinking "omg if I could take that one... I so would" so we'll see how things go.
I'm also planning on fostering before I get a second dog so you never know, if I fail at that I might end up with a second dog by accident.

I said maybe rescue, maybe pure bred...it will all depend on when. I know Traveler will not be with us forever..she is showing her age. But, I don't know that she won't be with us for another few years. Baxter should be here a good long time! And I dont' think we can manage more than 2 at a time (recent emergency vet visits made me aware of this!). So, time will create the decision.
