just as a small note for people who own mixed breed dogs, or purebreds without papers from a breeder:
if you want to get involved in performance events with your dog, you can register them as well.
the
UKC has a "Limited Privilege Program" that allows spayed/neutered mixed breeds and otherwise non-registereable purebreds to participate in most of their performance events.
the
AKC equivalent is the "Indefinite Listing Privilege", but sadly it is limited to purebred (or at least "purebred looking") dogs. however, if you have a dog that isn't "quite purebred" but looks similar enough to an AKC registerable breed, it's usually accepted.
hopefully they will change their mind in the future tho, i don't understand why they don't want the money of people who would enjoy stuff like rally, agility and so on with their spayed/neutered mixed breeds.
