I am not a fan of small yappy dogs of any kind. That said, I love all dogs and have never in my life met a dog that I wouldn't take in if it needed me and I was able, except for ONE.

My friend has a yorki/chi mix and I absolutely can not stand that dog. She is hyper, dumb, ugly, and just plain mean. This dog is seriously DUMB AS A ROCK.

I don't like dogs with pushed in faces that drool like bulldogs, boxers and English Mastiffs. I don't like high energy dogs like Golden Labrador Retrievers, Black Labs, ACDs and Boxers. I also dont like dogs that have too much hair like the Hungarian Komondor, Afghan Hound, Shitzu, Chow Chow, Poodle, and the Bearded Collie.

High energy dogs like black labs as opposed to the low energy yellow and chocolate labs? :D
Not trying to pick on you, just thought it was cute.
I don't hate or actively dislike any breeds, though there are the ones I wouldn't seek out, but I couldn't turn away any breed if one needed me.

I used to despise ANY small dog, and I despised them with a passion, but then my wife brought home our first Min Pin,(without asking me first,) and that preconception went right out the window, as the next two Min Pins were mostly my idea.

As far as dogs that I still don't really favor, any dog that requires regular grooming visits or basically any dog who's main purpose in life is to look "pretty." I know they may have their own redeeming qualities to their owners, but I don't ever plan on being one of those people.

Another breed I'm not too fond of are Golden, or Labrador Retrievers, I know many people with these, and for some reason I'm not sure I could explain, I just dislike them.

I will, however, never again say that I despise or hate a particular breed, or type of dog, as I've found that even a strong opinion can be quickly changed with the right experiences.

I don't like pop-eyed breeds like chihuahuas and pomeranians . . . I don't like snub nosed breeds, English bulldog, pug, and so on. Don't like lhasa apsos or shih tzus.

I'm surprised to see so many people saying they dislike labs and golden retrievers. I wonder if it's because these breeds are somewhat the de facto "American dog" stereotype, and some people prefer to be somewhat against the mainstream.

I think the lab and golden thing might have to do with the vast amount of BYBs pumping them out (as they are very popular breeds getting ruined by poor breeding), and having improper hyperactive temperaments.

I am suprised by the number of poodle haters too! I didn't like them until I started researching them, and all three of mine are amazing dogs! I think people are missing out - I'll never be without one!

I used to work as a receptionist at a vet clinic, so I have been around about every kind of dog imaginable.

My "hated" breeds are:
Beagles - I can't stand the hound bark, and every beagle I've met has been super stubborn and hard to train.

Labs and Goldens - I don't like the shedding!!!! I also hate that their puppy stage lasts basically until they are seniors! I have found that adults that are WELL TRAINED are great dogs, but I would NEVER own one.

Chows - I have only met one Chow with a nice temperament. The rest were very aggressive.

Papillons - I fostered one, he was such a challenge. He was impossible to train, was very aloof, and barked CONSTANTLY. He really turned me off the breed.

*Sniffles* My poor Boxers are getting pounded here!! Actually, people either 'get' Boxers and love them, or can't stand them - very little in between. I get them!

I honestly can't say that I have a least favorite breed. I have breeds that absolutely wouldn't work in my family, but it's not that I wouldn't like them, it's just that they wouldn't be compatible.

You think Boxers are getting pounded? LOL! Almost everyone on this board dislikes pugs and bulldogs:( I totally get what you are saying about how people either "get" certain breeds or they don't!! That's okay, more for me to love ;)

Don't feel bad Stacy! I LOVE boxers! In fact when I get more space that's probably the next breed I'll add to the clan. I'm told they have pretty similar personalities to bostons. :D

Wow.

I would never turn away a dog in need. However, I would tend to stay away from the hounds and northern (husky type) breeds.

They're temperment just doesn't suit me, though I do think they are adorable ;).

Not trying to dissuade you but that's a really odd description of a papillon's temperament. They're known for being super trainable (They're not called the border collie of the toy group for nothin) and all the ones I know are the complete opposite of aloof- always on top of you all the time!

I really don't care for Husky's although I think they are lovely. Just way too much dog for me. Same for ACD's and JRT's (Though my absolute heart dog was an ACD)
No pugs or bulldogs, I don't need a dog that snores louder than I do (The persain cat is more than enough).
Ummm...I really don't like Pom's, but I blame that almost entirely on the owners I see here, and not the dogs themselves.

I love them from afar! I just need a dog that's way more independent.

I used to think I loved all dogs, but I've realised how many breeds there are that I just COULD NOT live with. That doesn't mean I hate them, and there are certain dogs of any breed that are absolutley lovely. But on to the list of dogs that just aren't for me:

Bostons
Jack Russel Terriers
Wheatons
Fox Terriers
most other terriers (you know, the SUPER terrier-type ones)
most small furry dogs (like shih-tzus, lhasa's, bichons, maltese, yorkies)
most scent hounds
most sight hounds (the super aloof types)
brussels griffons and beddlington terriers (perhaps two of the only breeds I dislike completley on looks...)
Labs (of course I've met some super sweet labs, but I don't think I'd want to live with one unless they were a super calm, relaxed and easygoing one)
Goldens (same as labs)
Boxers but only the ones over 60-65lbs. The smaller ones I can somehow handle the energy better :)

I think that takes care of it... not so much whole breeds as much as "types" of dogs.

But when it comes right down to it, I'll probably end up adopting a lab/hound/terrier cross our something instead of getting the Newf of my dreams.
