unfortunatly there are no conceled weapon permits in the uk, im not even sure your allowed to carry pepperspray? its been almost 8 yrs since i moved to the us...

unfortunatly at least in the area i was from knife point muggins were very common...the biggest thing is usually learning what areas are "bad" and avoiding them completly.

i would always keep a small knife in my pocket or id have my key securly between my fingers if i was ever out alone and it was dark in the UK, least that way when i took a swing there was a good chance id leave enough of an identifying mark on the guys face that the police could easily tell, and if your timings right you can take out an eye with a key!

I am also glad you made it thru a terrible situation! Kudo's to you! The way I tend to believe, if you have lived thru a situation such as this, you did the right thing. Nobody will ever know the fear, panic, and quick decision making you must use to react to a situation unless they were right by your side.

I would also like to say, Pepper Spray sometimes has no effect on hyped up, drug addicted people... the most dangerous crime offenders in my opinion.

A concealed carry permit and being armed could save your life... for the right person. It could also be a wish of death if you are not familar with your weapon or are afraid to use it. So that would have to be a personal decision, I hope based on experience and willingness to "use it or lose it".

I would also like to say the victim should NOT be referred to as doing something dumb or stupid. The perp made the decision to do something stupid and the victim had a second to react.. Who is the stupid one?

Thanks.......... went to A&E this morning and after 5hours of waiting they tested my blood and gave me jobs, but i'm keep it clean and letting fresh air get to it too.
See that...did you catch that? I made easy for you highlighting in bold.
Now I wonder if Michael Moore cared to mention that sort thing in his new
socialist film, Sicko. That is exactly what Hillary and universal health care has planned for the USA. After 5 brutal hours sitting in some waiting room with everybody coughing their TB virus all over the place, they finally took a vial of blood to be tested. And that is what you advocates of socialized medicine want for this country? No Thanks. Oh yea, it's a good system, until actually get sick and need some care. No wonder they just hop on a plane and come to the States for treatment when they really get sick.

As for the attack with the knife, glad to read your OK.

Okay, I pay for my healthcare in the US, and I still seem to wait hours in a waiting room somewhere. The last time I was in an emergency room waiting with my 5 year old son for a severe rash. Not only was the wait unbelievable, but the doctor wrote me two prescriptions... one for hydro cortisone cream which the type wasn't a prescription med... it was over the counter... the pharmasist gave me a tube off the shelf. Then to top that off the ER doctor gave my 44 lbs son a prescrip for a antihistimine and the dosage he prescribed was more than twice that for a child.

Anyone, anywhere receiving health care should research and be their own "voice of reason" !! If you don't think something is right... ask, question it.

You don't always "pay for what you get".

Oh, and just to make it clear the "other people" mentioned are included in my handfull of least favorite people. ;)

actually the british healthcare system is good in terms of people who dont have health care, insurance or money can at least get seen by a dr, yes they have to sit and wait for 5 hours, but at least your not sat at home thinking "i shoudl see a dr but i cant afford the thousands of dollars itll cost!"

personally i have no health insurance through no fault of my own and cash is very tight and if i get hit by a bus tomorrow, i couldnt afford even monthly payments to get treated in the ER.

however thats not the issue in question.

I second that. Although I'd try the kneecap first.
Ummmm, why? A gun is a lethal weapon. When things have escalated to the point deadly force is justified, you should do just that... Use deadly force. If it is not to the point where deadly force is justified, the gun should still be in its holster.

Good thing the UK has that concealed firearms ban. Look at all the crime it is preventing.

;)

Until they ban knives too... Then what? Sticks and stones?

absolutely! That is what I mean in my previous post. If you pull a gun you better be ready to kill..... physically and emotionally!

We take care of people without coverage and no money. Since when do gunshot victims and illegal aliens get turned away from ERs? Taxpayers like myself foot the bill for them. If you want cheaper health care in the US then we should stop providing free health care to non-US citizens.

I second this... Just because SOME people have CCW's does not mean they are for everybody. Like I said before, a firearm is a LETHAL weapon. If you are not 100% sure that you could kill a person do NOT use a gun. People who say "I will just wound him" are fooling themselves.

I would also like to say the victim should NOT be referred to as doing something dumb or stupid. The perp made the decision to do something stupid and the victim had a second to react.. Who is the stupid one?
:hail:

That is pretty much the difference between the sheep and the wolfhound.

I'm rather afraid I would start laughing...it's more a nervous response than out of any hiliarity in the situation. But it does make people stop and think twice when the person they're pulling on suddenly starts smiling and laughing. I also have an elbow throwing reflex, as the unfortunete guy in the haunted house found the other night when he jumped in front of me...luckily I also have quick reflexes and knew that I wasn't actually going to be touched, so I was stepping back at the same time and his nose remained unsquashed.

Otherwise...well I really don't know. Maybe I would suddenly cower and plead not to be cut, just take whatever you want and leave...or it might just **** me off. Can't say for sure, I do weird things when my adrenaline gets going.

Either way, I always have my dogs with me and while they're not on the same level as Kharma, they do provide a pretty stiff deterrent.

The doctor probably couldn't believe you went to an ER for rash, so he gave you a script for the over the counter stuff. The incorrect dosage is a problem unless it was still ok for his weight? If not, you probably got the doctor with the degree from Guatemala. God forbid your son got really ill from an incorrect dosage of something prescribed, you would have absolutely no recourse under a universal or socialized system. When the doctor screws up, they just say sorry...better luck next time.

claybuster, did you knwo you come across as a jackass?!

and actually im a none us citizen im legal, but if i got hit by a car i wouldnt be turned away from the er i would however recive the bill a couple weeks later for thousands of dollars which would then be taken from my parents since i still live with them despite the fact ist my bill THEIR house would be on the line...
thats ridiculous...

as for the conceled weapon law...yeah its not preventing any problems sure...but the whole OH LOOK CRIME RATE debat could go on forever, especially since the us crime rate and DEATH rate is higher in dierct comparison than most european countries...

guns dont commit crimes, people do..however guns do seem to make it easier for people to do more serious damage when they do comit crimes...
You ever notice how american cops seem edgey and prone to "accidental shootings?" thats because who the hell knows who has a weapon concelend somewhere on their body...shoot first ask questions later...

british cops its not an issue, they just beat ya till you cant move since the worst they have to worry about might be a knick from a knife...
british bobbies, least the ones i knew growing up were ****ing scary, big brits most played rugby and were scary.

again however the health care and the concealed weapon thing is not the point of this post, i simply made not to all those replying with shooting the guy that its not an option in the uk...
so dont blow it up...k, its pointless.
especially since you dont have to worry about me voting on any of these issues since im only here on a greencard...*blinks blankly*

The ER visit was over a weekend. On Monday I took him to his regular peditrician that is right beside the hospital. He was livid with the lack of knowledge of the ER doctor and am sure expressed his opinion to the administrator.
The ER doc thought he was prescribing a stronger cream... but must have been mistaken.
Luckily, I knew better and didn't give my son the more than double dose of antihistimine. ;)

Depends on the situation. If he had just wanted some material object of mine, fine take it. If he had actually intended to attack me then of course I would defend myself to the best of my ability.

Yeah, we evil conservative people. Stupid freedom.

Ya know, for being so "enlightened" you come across as practically illiterate? But that is besides the point I suppose.

I am not going to get into a gun "rights" discussion with you, it would be pointless. I am going to leave it at this... I trust myself to take care of myself before any other person or group on Earth. You can take your chances and rely on others if you wish. I mean it when I say it... The government will NEVER get all my guns from me, not as long as I draw breath. Our right to bear arms is what gives us the power to take OUR government back when it becomes necessary. A unarmed populace are nothing but slaves.

Cripes, this got ugly fast! And by ugly I mean political...

Personally, I'd be yelling and punching and kicking as soon as he got within 3 feet of me, but I don't like to be out alone at night. So it probably wouldn't happen. I also don't think I'd had the nerve to shoot someone, so a gun would probably be a really bad idea for me. I'll stick to my 15 pound furry protector and a can of mace. But then again, I've never really shot a gun (besides a .22 with my dad) so maybe with some lessons I could get the nerve.
