Most of the time is it :)

Your dogs are not aggressive like the ones ive seen.
Can I touch him? as the kids are hanging on him.

ANd more times than I can mention they parrot something they read off the Net and the info is SO wrong the only way to disprove it is to showcase what a correct CAS dog acts like in public.

And the rants about cropping and docking is #1 on first thing out

Oh and one old guy said "If she were any bigger you could put a saddle on her and ride her!" Um yeah ok.
I forgot about that one with ol' Jedi, our Dogo. I was unloading him from the car at PetCo, and these two gals were putting dog food in their trunk and one turned and said "Look, a horse!" I thought it was funny then, and I still do. :lol-sign:

I did have a cashier at PetSmart tell me once that my smooth Collie was part Pit Bull because of her long nose. (Yep, BECAUSE of the long nose - that's how he could tell there was Pit Bull in there). That was the first time I had ever heard that one!! (BTW - that's her in my signature. Do you see the Pit in there? lol)

I've only had Dance (nsdtr) for a short while, but already I've gotten a few responses such as:

"Oh, is that like a Labradoodle?? There sure are a lot of new breeds around, you're so lucky to have her! Where can I get one?"

"what a cutie! I used to have a setter mix myself. You're going to be a big girl, aren't you?!"

"I've seen those dock trollers on TV. I like them. She's going to be a very hyper dog when she's older."

This is when I had both of my girls out together on the front lawn...
"Oh, what a cute baby! She looks great for just having puppies! Will you be breeding her again?" (assuming Tango is her dam without even asking first - that bugs me alot)

"Will you be breeding her when she's older? My kids have always wanted a Golden."

There have been a few more, but those are the mian ones that I still remember well.

With Tango I just get things like:

"oh, don't go near that dog. German Shepherds don't like strangers much." (she's a border collie/Toller)

"What a pretty dog. Does she bite?"

"Wow, you must have your hands full with that one! She's really hyper".

One more reason not to ask for advice at petsmart and petco.

this one isn't about dogs, but it's cute:

there's a reptile center/supply store, near my house. They had (she was recently moved to a reserve) female american alligator, "Holly". She was about 3 1/2 feet long... anyway, this guy who works there was feeding her (she was in a glass enclosure). He had a big pole to kind of keep her away from him, and she was hissing, and every time he threw her some meat, her jaws closing sounded like a door slamming.

there was a four year old boy there with his dad. he said "can we take her out and play with her?"

Maggie May

"She not as cute as other Cockers I have seen"

"Awwww *Proceeds to TRY and pet her while i explain she's shy*"

"Is she a mix?"

"Have you considered breeding her? She's the perfect size"

"What happened to her tail?"

Tino

"Oh he's a Rat Terrier they nip alot"

"Shouldn't he be smaller?" (No he's a Mini not a toy!)

"I love his coloring I thought they only came in black and white"

"He must be a mix because his ears don't stand straight up"

"Oh look a Jack Russel!!!"

"Awww cuuuuutie!!"

Badger

"A Lundehund? Is that a new breed?" (No just rare)

" You know its illegal to have a wolf for a pet" (we also hear fox)

" Awww where did you buy him?"

"Have you ever considering studding him out? I have an insert small breed here who im sure would produce beautiful puppies with him".

Haha nice thread...I'll share a few:

Boss - Chihuahua (1 yr 4mo old)
- Wow look at him run! (he is extremely fast)
- What do you feed that thing?!?
- "What is he?" -"Chihuahua" -"...and...?"
- "Is Boss the BOSS!?"

Romeo - Rottweiler (8 weeks)
- Is that a Newfoundland? (lol)
- You better take that thing to obedience!
- Better be careful he doesn't eat your other dog!
- People always thing rotties are bad dogs, but they are actually awesome dogs. (I have surprisingly heard this a lot, which is good!)

"Aw, she's so adorable/cute!"

"What a beautiful girl!" (NOTE, Kai is a BOY!)

"I love her coat."

"Is that coat hard to maintain?" (I seriously get asked that a lot.)

"That's a beautiful Border Collie puppy."

"Is that a Border Collie?"

"Is that a miniature Collie?"

"Look, it's Lassie!"

Rare breeds are the best for whacky comments

About Kim; conversations notoriously go like this. My part in red.
What mix is she
(Not a mix - Central Asian Shepherd - rare breed from (you guessed it) Central Asia)
Oh, yeah, she looks like my German Shepherd - (Wow that must be one butt-ugly GSD then).
There is no shepherd in my dog; just the breed name.
Or even better;
I'll tell them she's a CAS; and then; Yeah, I've seen them before; really; where? (There's probably about 10 in Canada; less than 1000 in the U.S.)
The only people I believe in "seen them before" are the people from Central Asia and area - and they nod and smile and tell me I've got a good dog; and they enjoyed seeing her.

I always get the conversation about the ear crop and tail dock. She'd be beautiful with her tail and ears (says the person who doesn't even know the breed)- really; check out the breed; tell me why you think so.

Most people however; when they realize that she is a rare breed are interested in learning.

My trainer with her Beauceron has had some truly stupid comments.

"Is that a dobe/rottie/shep cross" Fair enough; colour would certainly trigger some people.

The word Beauceron is just ridiculous for stupid people though.

Her favourite was at PetSmart; one of the girls pranced over; asked what breed mix; was told it was a purebred Beauceron.

"Never heard of it. Really. You are kidding me."
Marched over to the Dogs Today Annual and proceeded to interogate on spelling and lo and behold; there are actually breeders in N.A. (and have been for many years). Dimwit!

Aw, come on. One gal I had the pleasure of working with at PetCo one day was referring people to her boyfriend for $50 home ear crops. She said the pups felt no pain and WOW what savings versus those overrated vet crops.
