What things really bug you about what people say about dogs/your breed?

Pepe (Chihuahua/Sheltie)
-"OMG! He's so cute!" And then they proceed to PICK HIM UP. Without asking me.
-"He's little - he must be nasty!" (Because all small dogs are nippers)
-"I bet he barks a lot!" (Because all small dogs are yappers)
-"Look - a mini Lassie!" (Dude, he's not even close.)
-"He's so handsome. He must be a good showdog." (Mutt, people, he's a mutt.)

Flicka (Golden Retriever)
-"It's a golden. It must be friendly!" (Because all goldens are, you know... )
-"She's so preeeety!" And then they pet her, hug her, and kiss her. Without asking.
-"An Irish Setter!" (Ok, she may be a bit on the redder side - but in no way does she look like a setter...)

Nobody ever says much about Ripley besides "awwww!" and "Ohhh, a Papilleeawn. I saw one of those on tv!"

With the Border Collies (Eve especially) I tend to get "wow, they're so calm! aren't those dogs usually hyper?".

Other comments that bug me:

"Oh look, she's HERDING ______ (insert random inanimate object here)". BLARG! My dogs aren't that stupid, they don't "herd" pocketbooks or vending machines or milk jugs. Eve did try to flank a statue of a sheep, but realized it wasn't a sheep and went slinking back to me, totally ashamed of herself. Do my dogs stare at things? Of course. But Labradors do this too and you don't see them "herding" anything. I also hate how people tolerate their dogs' bad behavior and just blame it on what the dog was bred to do, even though the purpose has NOTHING to do with that instance. X.X It's like squealing over how your Labrador is "retrieving" when he bites someone and comes back with a piece of flesh stuck between his teeth.

There are more, but I don't have time to write them out now.

Darby (Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier Pup)

"Is that a Labradoodle?"

(OK, it only happened once, but it was just last night so it kinda stuck with me.)

Most people just ask, "what kind of dog is that?"

Haha I love this thread...

SAGE

People have come up with all these UGLY things to compare her too...gees, I think she's cute :)

"Look at that, it looks like a fruit bat!"
"Oh it's a little rat dog"
"She looks like a gremlin"

Some normal comments...

"Oh she's a pretty little thing, can I pet her?"
"How old is she, is she going to get alot bigger?"
"Is she full Chihuahua?"

Once people know her...

"I usually don't like little dogs but I LOVE your dog!"
"Oh da wittle baby"
"She has such a personality!"

A few days ago we bumped into a lady with her little Shih Tzu in the park. She was petting Nala and commenting that she was so calm.

She proceeded to explain to me that Border Collies are always so calm and they make great pets. I tried to explain to her that they're high energy dogs but she zoned out and kept petting.

Most people completely ignore Bimmer if one of the Riot Grrrls is there :( Last night when I was walking Bimmer and Kharma a woman asked me (the usual) if Kharma was a Bloodhound and when I told her no, she was a Fila Brasiliero asked me if I was sure and someone hadn't just sold me a Bloodhound with a fancy name. THEN, when her husband asked about Bimmer, she butted in and said "oh, he's just a German Shepherd Sooner . . . "

Kharma gave her the Baleful Glare and when we walked off Kharma kept glaring at her over her shoulder, lol . . .

LOL, I get that too, They saw a pap-ill-on (or sometimes a pap-ill-ee-on) on tv.

Rose-
-"Oh, is that a papillon? I want one of those so I can put it in my purse." (WTH? Seriously was walking her and a lady came up and wanted to pet her and told me that. I didn't really respond...)

Beau-
- "How old is your chihuahua?"
- "I saw one of those on tv" (again)
- "Is that a pekignese?" (???)

They also get A LOT of comments about how big/goofy whatever their ears are. No matter where we go with the papillons, I will be stopped at least twice to be asked what they are and if I like them. Of course I like them, I'm walking two of them!

Shelties:
-"Look at the little Lassie!"
-"Aww, collie puppy!" (No, 11 year old sheltie)
-"Are those miniatures?"

Trey- "That's the most beautiful dog I've ever seen" (They usually assume he's a girl too)

Radar:
Oh my God, What is that?
Is he a poodle? umm.. he has short legs, a long body and terrier fur.
Oh, he's like a baby! I'll admit, I invite that by carrying him on my hip when he's tired.
Is he a Wheaton? He weighs 13 lbs. No.
Would you like to breed him? If you can not look at my mutt and see he is neutered, you are too stupid to breed anything. Including yourself.
Lilly:
What a pretty dog! Why thank you, she feels the same way about herself.
How old is your puppy? 11 and going very grey. Yet people still think she is a pup.
Whats wrong with her nose? Do you need a nose job girl? She has cancer thank you. I do not appreciate being reminded of that fact.
Can I pet her? Why yes, she is an attention *****.
Greystone:
Oh my God, Is that a cat? No, it's a giant flat faced squirrel. Yes is is a persian cat.
Why is his hair like that? We shaved him because he is too lazy to groom himself.
I couldn't live in a house with that thing. You don't have too. We think he is wonderful, if slightly strange. OK, more than slightly.
How much did you pay for him? Maybe I am the only one who thinks this is a rude question, especially from a stranger.
Oh look, he wants to shake hands. No, he is reaching to swat you. Touch that paw and he will bite.

There's one I get somewhat often with Auggie, and one that I ALMOST always get if I have Happy and Kota (who looks pretty manly to me) out.
"Ohhhh, SHE'S so pretty!"

*facepalm*

I've noticed with Auggie people usually ask if it's a boy or a girl, but for some reason they always assume the other two are girls. Kota is a big ol' butch guy with the stature of a bulldog, he is NOT girly. Happy, yes. Happy is girly. Kota, no.

One time at petsmart their was a little girl that actually asked her dad if she could pet Chloe and then he asked me and I said OK, and Chloe was very gentle with the little girl and let her pat her on the head and side, and as they walked away he said "You have a very GOOD dog"

it made me feel really good :)

Joey (boston terrier)

"Is that a mini boxer?"

- since when did that become a breed?

"Is that a pit bull puppy??!!"

- again, shows the general public's breed ignorance

"Is he fixed?"

- Hell yes!!

"Awww, he's so ugly he's cute!!"

-Soooo...is that a compliment or an insult?

"That dog is UGLY!!!"

-I smile and tell them to go look in the mirror

"Aww, his ears are as big as his head!"

-well, I'll give them that one......

"Aww....what's her name?"

-His name is Joey

"What a sweet face!!!"

-I tend to agree :)
