You were probably not born yet when I traveled. OK. Why fricken? Why speak like that? Everyone knows what you mean to say, you should just say it. IMO one is just as bad as the other. Grow up.
:D lol... So you're saying because you've traveled before she was born, you're wiser, and because she doesn't cuss right she's a baby?

Anyway, I understand what you mean by your comment on the brits. I grew up in Japan and they have a similar attitude. They think all Americans are sloppy, unorganized, and fat. They think their products are better (and most of the time I agree with them lol but that's beside the point). And I was made fun of when I lived there because I'm half American. But, I love the people in Japan. They are one of the nicest people you will meet, IMO, but there's always the bad ones.

There's no way to judge a whole group of people. Everyone has their good and bad sides. And plus, lots of Americans have an arrogant attitude as well. They think they're better than all the other better countries because we're a world power and we're rich, etc.

OK, So I just recived this in an E-mail (from an american) and I thought it fit this thread somewhat perfectly. NOT because I think that Americans think that, just because this first thing I thought of when I saw this, was this thread. This is for humour only...

That is all well and good. As long as you don't start thinking opinion is fact.

I do think people need to lighten up. People are people everywhere you go, the good, the bad the strange and the wonderful. I love to travel!
I would never be so arrogant as to assume my opinion as fact.

That is good to know...because on line, you do come across as believing that your statements are the truth (facts)

Couple of things: First on the use of certain words, I don't care to hear that stuff, not because I am offended, I just don't thing it is appropriate. You hear fricking and freakin more and more on TV, radio, Internet, etc. IMO it is not right. Now we have a whole bunch of very young people throwing these words around used in context. The common place use of these words is sending out the wrong message. Was at a public beach a few years back with my wife and girls, and there was another group of kids not far away, kids ranging from 5-12 years old. All you heard was some of them shouting, "you gotta be freaking kidding me", and "what the frick is that", "shut the freak up", etc. Do you really feel that is an appropriate message and setting a good example for our children in regards to how they conduct themselves in public? Where do they get in from? They get it from the people who are supposed to be role models. It is not good and in my opinion an inappropriate message many older folks our sending out to our younger children.

However, I would much rather see it here as opposed to the ridiculous blatant censorship being applied on some other dog boards. All you see at some places is red ink with "content removed", not even in regards to foul language. That is more absurd IMO and a really big turn-off. People like the free exchange of ideas, regardless of whether or not the tone suits the fancy of moderators. Censorship and the constant interference of moderators is extremely detrimental IMO to that free exchange and flow of ideas. Nobody cares for censorship and it is very annoying. I would like to mention I am very pleased to note that this board seems to really have it's act together in that respect, run much more professionally in comparison to some censorship boards. This IMO this place has to be thee #1 dog board out there and it is a pleasure to be here.

Second, I don't dislike the Brits. True, I feel there is that attitude we are much be that you and always do everything better than you and it is reflected in many of the posts. It's not just here. I visit the gun groups, the shotgun boards, etc., and it goes without saying of course the Brits are all better hunters, shooters, and sportsmen than we are in their opinion. You know when they shoot skeet it is always international style with the low-gun mount, so much better than the way we do it here. I got news for you, many here shoot clays low-mount as well, and the holier than thou attitude
does get old. We can't train our bird dogs as well either obviously, they always feel they do it better.

Putting all that aside I still hold a deep respect and admiration for the people of the UK. They are, like it or not our mother country (unless you are a native American) and always have and always will be a steadfast ally of the USA. And, we back them as well. We can count on them for support, and we will always be in their corner as well. Immediately after 911, the first international phone call to President Bush was from Prime Minister Tony Blair stating, how can we help, what can we do to support, we are with you.
Hearing Tony Blair speak so eloquently shortly after in regards to the help and their 100% support of the USA did bring a tear to my eye. Prime Minister Blair IMO was freaking awesome in those regards, the support mode an willingness to be so supportive and helpful will not be forgotten by those like myself here in the states....thank you. Regardless of whether it was right or wrong, regardless if we acted on bad info, regardless if it was just one big mistake, they gave us the support only a true friend and ally would give and it is appreciated greatly. Thanks again. This supersedes any feeling in regards to they always have the attitude of being much better than us. I have a big thumbs up for the grit, determination, will and spirit of the Brits. They are bulldogs when it comes to standing up for what is right and wrong, not afraid to dig their heels in and get the job done. I tip my hat and say cheers to you in those regards.

Now if they could only get the metallic taste of the keg out of the New Castle Brown Ale, lol.

Unless, like some of us, your forebears were the Irish and the Scots trying to get out from under the tyrannical English yoke ;)

Not mine, I'm a mix of Danish, Irish, Norwegian, and German. I'm pretty sure that a lot of people in the U.S can trace their families back to other countries. I also think you can find arrogant idiots in every culture. Just like you can find overweight, lazy, self-centered, and rude people everywhere too. Labeling and generalizing are both lazy and ignorant ways to view the world, IMO.

The Irish and Scots like my Irish and German ancestors are just as guilty of racism, just ask the Universety of Deleware. Link.

Because my family immigrated here after slavery ended, and some of them where Irish, accordding to UD we are racist because of the color of our skin. To them the German blood in my veins only proves their point.

Being of Italian decent, I cast my vote for Italy. It's amazing how sharp some of you people are, thanks for clearing that one up.

I'm Native American (Sioux) and German Nazi ... right now all my much older family members are disgusted to see the Rebel Flag and Betsy Flag banned from public schools on shirts this past week yet no mention of the Peru or Puerto Rico or or or Flags that we see everyday.
My Pappy (97 years old) a few weeks ago while going to a doctors visit in the city with my dad ... seen a man about to burn our Flag along side the highway... my dad stopped, and before he could get out .. he said Pappy left the truck and went over to the man and asked what are you proving, the man said this country is gonna die ... Pappy grabbed the flag and didn't let go
my dad told me every car stopped and the people grabbed the flag till the man had enough. Pappy now has that flag in his room and wants to be buried with it. Pappy said that man stomped cursin' and pouted at everyone around.
A state policeman who was watching from afar then stopped my dad down the highway and said it took about 4 minutes for someone to stop since the man got out of his car with the flag.
It's sad it's come to this.

I heard somewhere that symbols are for the symbol minded. Thanks for the clarification on the Nazi thing, it has put suspicions to rest.

It's a great thing that your pappy, at his age did such a thing. :)

And now to the nazi comment - Are you saying that, that is you decent, that you really are part 'nazi' German, or are you categorizing the people?

I'm just saying, really. Somewhere along the bloodline it was a serious thing in my family. I have the uniforms, guns, pictures, the whole nine yards in the attic. Sooo, I can only assume my German side had many Nazi people's.
When I ask my family, they don't say much .. just tell me to keep what I have and remember the past.
From what I do gather looking over all the stuff ... who ever it was kept everything in mint condition and the pictures were wrapped tight not to ruin.
I asked my pappy last night who's stuff it is again.. and he told me if he lives long enough he'll tell me.
Did you know Hitler was a well known breeder of Pit Bull's ... interesting stuff.
I'm not supporting this is any way ... it's just amazing to learn my family history. But they don't like to talk about it.

Good that you clarified that, Melissa. The way you posted it originally gave the distinct impression that your political philosophy was Nazi - that's vastly different from having forebears who were members of the Nazi party. I have some friends whose parents were Nazis, but they themselves do not share any of their parents' philosophies.

Yes, but even if you have uniforms from your German ancestors, doesn't mean that they were Nazis - at least willingly. Unfortunatly a lot of people and even Childern (HJ) were recruited into the war - they were drafted and they had no choice or their family could end up like some many other families before them. All four of my great grandfathers were drafted - one hide out in the mountians and wasn't caught - the others had to go to war, this does not make them nazis in any way. My Grandmother's brothers had to be part of the HJ - all young men had to be. I know them, none of them were or are now in any way Nazis. So this just might mean that your ancestors were drafted without being a Nazi. None of my family really likes to talk about what happened 'back then' and around my great grandmother its kind of a taboo thing to talk about - unless she starts talking about the whole thing back then.

I dunno. I hope Pappy will tell me one day.
I do remember when I was like 9-10 or so, a man came to the house to fill out some paper work to work in my dads shop.
And I didn't think anything of it until the man said he didn't know which is worse nazi or native american and my dad just blew up. He grabbed the man and beat the p1ss out of him and held him down and made him appoligize to my mother. I remember that day like yesterday.
