I'm supposed to be teaching Payton cik & cap around an object. I don't even know what kind of object I would use let alone actually having started on this. I think I still have my orange traffic cones at my parent's house, I haven't taken them to my house to be lost somewhere in the mess that is the garage...

I'm totally failing at my homework already and the class hasn't even started.
You can use anything! I used trees a lot, a pot for a plant, a PVC post, a normal post, a plunger... anything!

Well, I couldn't find my traffic cones, but it just so happens I actually bought a plunger at the Dollar Store as one of my 'weird things' for Payton! So we're using that LOL.

ugh I have so many videos for you guys. if I can just get my stupid computer back.

Nothing at the moment, but being around a bunch of dogs all day that don't know "anything" is making me want to get back to training :lol-sign:

Only an obed nerd can appreciate this but I just ran backup into a fence in a heel, actual face to the fence-klunk! I threw a party. Our first NQ, lol, was from heeling too close to a fence, per a judge, and he popped over after feeling too much pressure. Ahhhh how we've matured.

LOL!! That's awesome!!

I can't even count the number of times Zuma has run into something heeling through a trial. She snarks at other dogs on leash so we heel whenever we are walking through crowds and she's run into countless tables, counters, chairs, people legs, etc. I always feel awful because I always forget that she's focusing on me and not where she's walking.

lol poor Zuma! We've always been able to with a tug lure under my arm but he's so hyper aware if his surroundings I am just beyond thrilled this happened sans a reward, I dug for a treat and roughed him up while scanning the room for a ball. We repeated this into a wall and it wasn't a fluke. I'm so happy.

Also, my trainer worked him today (my movement and timing suck for jump drive work) and he did very well with her. :)

We're working on impulse control... The never ending battle. lol

Went to a drop in obedience class with Skye tonight. I was half expecting her to be...bad. We've never done anything formal in a class. I've put some basics on her but never asked much of her 'out and about'.

I'm incredibly proud of her tonight. For all the stuff I haven't proofed, and the stuff I know I've never been consistent with, because I really figured we'd never do anything...she's NOT bad. She was nervous at first, and was kind of like uhh, why are you asking me to do this stuff in this NEW place, with these NEW dogs?! Yes...I can do that...but hey look there's a box here..haha. And then she settled in, got in her groove, and did so well. I'm so proud.

Working on Look at me for walks. Henry is a very reactive dog in that if another dog is wild and happy, he is wild and happy. If another dog is stalking and obsessive, he starts stalking and staring obsessively.

He is doing great though. It is still difficult to get his attention in those crucial moments before he's over his threshold, but once you break his concentration on the other dog and focus him on you, he's perfect! I really just think it's my timing.

We make it a game that we play all during our walks and he's getting pretty solid.

Stays!

Had fun practicing them w/recalls on the beach, mostly because there were no dogs to play with. He did not know stand-stays before now, but he generalized stay while standing, woohoo, brain workout.

We are doing the foundations class too. I'm auditing and working through the class with Gus and Zen, maybe Rumor if I have time. I'm also helping a friend with her sheltie (she's actually doing the video analysis part)

Can we embed videos?

Click the "youtube" button at the top on the post page, or type YOUTUBE in square brackets, then all you put in is the youtube code (not the full link) - for this one it's "i2Mbfxquteg."
Like so:

I have videos but have yet to get them transferred onto my computer to edit! I brought a few things from my house back to my parents house to work on. =P

Anyone else at 6 months old feel like they are taking 100 steps backwards?
I feel like we are back at the basics. Sometimes I feel like he is so..DEFIANT!

He is all over the place these days. Head in the clouds running around and focus? forget it. LALALALALAL LOOK AT THE BIRDS!!

And he goes to class but it's such a crapshoot because at training class when he is "on" he is..ON. He is the star of the classroom. The trainers don't get it when I'm like "NO. HE IS A LIAR! HE ISN'T LIKE THIS!"
He focuses, he is eyes on me the whole class, never gets distracted, follows every word.

Out and about around other dogs? forget it. The clicker is at home so the rules are off.

Ditto! I learned my lesson finally with Payton. There is a clicker attached to my bag with a little carabiner. I'm never without one now. =P

Ah, I remember when Wesley turned into a leash-biting monster at 6 months old. Those were the days! I'm still a good 8-9 months away from that with futurepuppy, thank goodness. :D
