Scenthurdle stuff.

She's got fetching and scenting just fine and jumping of course is good. It's the going away from mama to go down the lane to get the dumbbell that's the issue.

So a combination of making it fun to go away from me and making sure I'm consistent in how I send her and building more value for the dumbbell that's what we're working on.

We're still front foot targeting and OMG he's doing so well, coming from the hour long staring contests with nothing to click. We have a long way to go but, yay!, we're on a path. He's somehow convinced he needs to dig while targeting so we're cleaning that up.

Also we're retraining the come to heel with a pivot instead of his originally trained tuck behind and line up. Additionally we're proofing the position with side stepping and eventually we'll work on heeling backwards. He can reverse with me in front but he needs some confidence that it's possible next to me.

Lastly, we're trying to retrain his positions. For so long I just accepted what he gave me because he's been such a tough dog to train with but with his new found brain and clarity we're trying for a less slouchy sit and a tighter down, he has a tendency to kick one leg back froggy style which with his touch and shaping issues I just took but now we're attempting to clean it up.

High hopes for the nerd.

Here's an update on Cohen's progress with her handstand. I decided to try to encourage her to keep her head tucked between her front paws rather than out in front -- she's turned some of her handstands into tripod headstands and I ultimately want this to be a walking handstand. There's a few good repetitions at 0:30 and 1:10.

Forgive my clothing and the background noise/conversation. I'm home sick, and my husband was playing video games on the couch. :p

- Stop humping other dogs at the dog park
- Sit does not mean sit, wait a few seconds, jump on me and then sit again. I do not need reminding that you are seated. JUST FRIKIN WAIT
- Try to get into a down before I die of old age
- I know you like shaping, but training class is not the time to show off that you can put your back feet on the trainers toes just because she is holding a clicker :rofl1:
- Garbage day is not "Merlin is served his meal on the ground" day. I am so sick of fishing things out of your mouth
- For the love of all that is good
JUST
LET
ME

**** I AM PRETTY SICK OF SHAPING EVERYTHING BUT YOU MAKE LURING IMPOSSIBLE! USE YOUR BRAIN EVEN WHEN FOOD IS PRESENT!
SOME BODY AWARENESS PLEASE!
- The geese at the park do not like you.
I will leave you to be killed if they go after you. I am scared of them.

and I know the trainer has sucky treats like milkbones but stop being such a snob! Would it kill you to just take one for the team and eat one?!

Some dogs can't afford freeze dried liver and cod and hotdogs.
CHECK YOUR PRIVILEGE MERLIN!

You make a great demo dog and work with people so well but kind of ruin it when they offer you a treat and you make a point of spitting it out like a brat

Try going to do some therapy work at the retirement/old age home and they won't take the treats from the really excited residents. :rofl1:

Poor residents got their hearts broken.

Fran, your posts pretty much made my day :)

We found a new agility facility that seems amazing but the beginner class is on Sat and the first class is my one mandatory Sat a month at work :( So we're missing the very first class. But I'm still excited! Robin is working on 2o2o at home in the meantime.

Not a lot!

We've all been getting fat and lazy whilst Fred has been resting.

Consultation today, so hopefully normal service will resume soon... I let the dogs wrestle today and they were soooooo happy.

We have missed training! We have weekly cgc classes, and fortnightly training classes. Plus a course in June for working trials.. So I'm hoping today brings us very good news!!!

And amongst that we constantly work on good handling manners for shows!

I want to get active with him!

Bodhi doesn't get any formal training, as she doesn't need it, and we have more fun chasing balls and swimming!

That is awesome, I love it!!! How long have you been working on the handstand for?
I'm embarrassed to admit it's probably been a work in progress for about 1.5-2 years. It's taken a while for the requisite muscles to develop, plus I admit I've not really known what I was doing the entire time and we've stalled on a few plateaus over the months.

Thanks!

Harlow is ALWAYS on recall bootcamp. Because she is a bad word, and does what she wants. Ain't nobody got time for that.

Rider is on nosework drive building.. Which is going awesome. He rocked it at our final Intro class and he is loving doing vehicle searches so far. Also, heeling. We've been doing lots of heeling and focus work.

I've been slacking off.. but working on free shaping Lucy's down. She has been a great guinea pig.

And am finally starting to compile a list of "Things to make the best ACD evar" including planning a trip to Boston. Yes Fran, you are included somewhere in this, whether you like it or not. WE WANT IN ON YOUR CITY GARBAGE FUN.

ETA: Also! We start Intro to Agility and Continuing Nosework next week.

For no real reason, I purchased a dumbbell and I'm working on holding onto it with Squash. He's doing quite well, which unfortunately means the next thing will be to figure out how the heck to teach him to retrieve, something he has just slightly more than zero interest in.
If I hand him the dumbbell he's doing great at holding it until I tell him to release. I've been free shaping the retrieve and we have reached "I'm going to pick this thing up and fling it in your direction." :p Now to put 2 and 2 together.

I'm supposed to be teaching Payton cik & cap around an object. I don't even know what kind of object I would use let alone actually having started on this. I think I still have my orange traffic cones at my parent's house, I haven't taken them to my house to be lost somewhere in the mess that is the garage...

I'm totally failing at my homework already and the class hasn't even started.
