Well, I have decided I'm going to send Michael a box filled with balloons that will float up when he opens it, a pink fuzzy teddy bear that plays music when you squeeze it, and I'm ordering him a singing tellagram.

Okay, so not really. But it was funny to see his face while I explained my plans in detail to him in front of his fellow sailors. Mwahahaha. :D
LOL fun fact... I used to do singing telegrams. It was hilarious... people would get so embarrassed. I had one guy run away from me and I had to chase him around his work lol

It falls the day before Jeromy and I were going to go to the dog show anyway, so that's our Valentine's activity this year :)
What day are you going to be there? The dog show is my big plan for that weekend. :lol-sign:

I don't know. It's our first Valentine's Day together, but Valentine's Day carries a lot of really ugly baggage for me and he thinks it's all a scam, so probably nothing interesting.

Well, since we won $125 in the Super Bowl pool, maybe something nicer than expected.

I really don't know what the heck to get him. He's a PITA to buy gifts for anyway, and Valentine's day is so weird. I feel like the gift should be kind of romantic-y (and I'm sure he agrees) but how do you do that without seeming super cheesy?

We are going out to a nicer restaurant and maybe getting a hotel room. I'm going to go get us fabulous cake and may get a new dress since I'm feeling nice. Not sure if I will do any other gifts. Apparently some fancy get away was supposed to happen but he forgot that I have class and work. Lol.

Ok, here's a stupid question: are you "supposed" to do gifts for Valentine's day??

It's my first real Valentine's day with the BF and I don't know if I'm supposed to get him a gift or not.
This is the thing!! I thought just going out for a nice dinner or something is good enough but today I just read an article that said on average, people spend $130 on Valentine's day presents! Also that iPads are one of the most popular gift items. An iPad?!? for Valentine's day?!?! isn't that a little too much?!

Today, i learned people give their parents/grandparents cards? And kids/grandkids? Sisters? Brothers?
My god, companies are racking in the money.

I'll still be sitting at home, alone :p Probably hole myself in my room with the ferrets.

iPads for Valentines day?! That is insane. I got an iPad from my parents for Christmas ..that seems more appropriate.

People are nuts. I have never spent even close to $130 on Garret. I am buying us a cake. So $24. I'm only $106 short..

That doesn't seem unreasonable at all, for a family of 4...of each kid gives valentines to their class that's probably $20+, plus if you spend 10 on each kid, mom gets 2 dozen roses for $40, $15 on cards for each kid and spouse, and the wife gets a piece of jewelry or something?

It sounds excessive to a lot of us, but that's how lots and lots of people live...and if you're averaging upper middle class couples who spend more with more minimalist couples who still spend $24 or $50...it's not surprising to me at all.

I always got gifts from my parents as a kid (and still do get chocolate) and sent cards to my cousins...will probably send my grandma a card this year.

I *think* we'll be there on Saturday but it may end up being Sunday. Regardless, we should meet up (for longer than five whole minutes this time lol).

I just assumed it meant couples spent that much on each other. My bad!

I believe the article said 130 is the average people spend on their other half. But I'm not sure if that includes dinner/flowers/gift or just the gift.

I could see that.

We'll probably have a decent dinner, go to a movie and get each other presents. That quickly adds up. Maybe not $130-$150 but definitely more than $20.

I asked SO what we were doing and he's like "Uhh.. SOMETHING!". He's usually pretty good at coming up with something cute. I just have to poke him a little. He's still got a bit of making up to do since the first year we were (physically) together, he didn't get me anything. I was not happy about that. :rofl1:

We do not celebrate Valentine's Day, however, I do take advantage of the candy being on sale afterwards. :)

He's going to surprise me. I'm assuming dinner somewhere fun and I got him a bottle of scotch and a pie he loves in return for after dinner. I think the day after I'm gonna make him pancakes for breakfast because we always work really early and never ever do that. (Well ok I really want pancakes, haven't had them for a few years so this might be an excuse)

Bf came home with my Valentine's gift last night (he couldn't wait lol). He got a florist friend to help him make me a gorgeous flower arrangement and gave me a huge box of chocolate and a homemade card with the promise of a sushi date and massage. We'll go out Sunday if we can get a babysitter.

Tonight I'm making his favorite dinner (chicken Francese) and chocolate covered strawberries, plus I got him a box of goodies - patchouli soap, peanut butter popcorn, cookie dough, candles, and will pick up some champagne.

Lillian and I also went to a Valentine's day party with our mom and baby friends, which was super cute.
