That is great to hear! I'm supposed to be putting it on BID, but I don't know if this jar will last until Saturday. :-/ it's a big jar, but he has a lot of area, too... I'm gonna take it light on the morning application and put a better coat on at night to set in all night to make it last. The baths should help too- he was so itchy earlier he was on his back on the floor scratching/rolling around. Glad it didn't hurt him though!

It would be awesome/a miracle if he didn't scar... Even better if his hair grew back!
The hair depends on if there's follicle damage. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't, even with regular wounds.

Indy's scar hair always grows in white for some reason. Especially on her face and muzzle :p

Where she had a benign growth removed is slooooowwwllly growing the hair back. White. :p (It was on her ear flap at the bottom)

It does look like a pour, but maybe a pot of hot oil or water accidentally got spilled on him and the owner couldn't afford to fix it and didn't know what else to do but hole so keen would rescue him? I hope that's what happened, perfect name for the little guy.

Eta: hole so keen would = hope someone would o_O

I definitely considered that when hoping for the best, but who in their right mind would just let him loose after that? Why not contact vet clinics, shelters, etc. See if anyone would take him. Someone would have. He was picked up as a stray, though...

Yes, I suppose that could make sense, too.

This morning Trooper is looking about twice as good as he did yesterday, lots of the skin is firming up and changing to lighter colors/thin scabbing. Had a great appetite again and scarfed his breakfast. Ran around outside a bit.

Now, since he's finally dry/not leaking, he gets special dog bed-tv watching privileges for the morning! Going to introduce him to Recon tomorrow after a bath because I know Recon won't approach him without invitation and won't pester him. He's so interested in the other dogs and the cats, I think he's very eager to make friends. And he'll be able to spend much more time with us if they can coexist since I'm crating/rotating three groups, currently.

Thank you!

His skin was looking so clear and light this morning with a light layer of scabbing starting- Then he rolled around because he was itchy and a large layer of skin/scab, blood, hair and ointment came off all over my rug.

So he looks like he did last night again. LOL. Not really sure if it's a hindrance to healing or not, but for my floor's sake, I am trying to keep the ointment fresh and moist so that he's not dry and itchy. I sure don't blame him for being uncomfortable with it though!

Trooper is making great improvements. The topical has really been helping his skin... this evening I got home from dinner and when I got him out he wanted to roll all over the carpet - resolve to the rescue! :hail:

He ripped some skin open so I gave him a bath and put more topical on. Glad he got his pain meds with dinner a few hours earlier... I felt like his bath had to be so painful! He didn't seem to mind and held still as a statue for it, SO MUCH DEAD SKIN CAME OFF. I wore latex gloves for it and I'm so glad I did... I think it may have been more traumatizing for me. I felt like I was slowly skinning him.. everytime I rubbed some of the gel/shampoo onto his skin, more skin would fall off.

It looks SO much better afterwards, though! The raw area is slowly decreasing to a pinkish flesh color (real skin!) that's growing in. He loved the cuddles in the towel after the bath and sat still while I put the topical on, too.

Wasn't too sure what to do with a bully stick, though!

We have another vet visit in the morning. Anxious to see how it goes/if she prescribes anything else for him at this time. I think he's looking great. He's definitely feeling great - great enough to pee on a bag of charcoal on my porch today! :D

Well, the vet is thrilled with his progress! So thrilled that we only have to go back once a week now! so we will see her again next Friday for more meds and an update. The rescue wanted a blog post about him for Facebook/their website so I took my blog post and edited it for theirs. The vet said she read it and that she loved it, I did a great job describing him and the process. She's actually really interested in adopting him, but she lives in the city and already has 3 dogs. ;(

Lots of interest coming in through the blog post/Facebook about him.

We're hoping the scabs all come off by Friday and we can get him off the antibiotics and get him neutered in the next month or so.

Thanks guys! I'm very glad, too. He's getting another bath tonight 'cause he's so itchy!

Picked up more pill pockets for him today- it's the only way I can get him to eat his pills at this point! And his meals.. if any pills go in his bowl, he turns his nose up at his kibble for the day.

He is healing up beautifully :)

There is lots of nice granulation and new skin forming from what the picture is showing.

No surprise he is itchy...

Love the picture of him as a little Trooper burrito in the towel <3
