I've heard of miniture SHELTIES, but not miniature collies. But I will admit that I have described shelties to people as "they look kinda like a minature collie, you know, like Lassie?" So maybe that's where it comes from . . . so many people have described them that way that people think that's what they ARE.

I blame Lassie. lol
I think if the truth ever came out, we'd find out that Lassie pushed Timmy in that well so she could play the hero. I heard she had a drinking problem as well.

If its a Great Dane it MUST be "brown with a black face with dem pointy ears!" (aka: fawn with cropped ears  )

If its a Dane it MUST have cropped ears

If it has big floppy ears it MUST be a beagle or basset

If its black it MUST be a lab

If it has spots it MUST be a dalmatian (dosen't matter if they are over 110lbs and twice as tall  )

Whatever else it is, it surely contains some flat coat retriever and or catahoula, because there are just so many of these breeds everywhere and they really get around. I have to assume that the owners of the males of these two breeds are the most irresponsible dog owners in the universe. Evidently they actively pursue matings between their dogs and mutts of every description.

Most people think Uncle Fred is a beagle. Beagles now cone in three sizes, 13", 15" and 27". He and Mini are brother and sister. Or Uncle Fred gave birth to Mini in a miracle of nature. Mini, who is 12 1/2" tall, is a miniature beagle because beagles are bigger than that.

There is NO such thing as a "miniture Sheltie"...

That woudl basically class as a Pom or Pap.. lol
I actually saw a runt Sheltie at the dog park. (A runt, as in from a normal litter, not a bred miniature sheltie, though they do exist :( . Her owners were very clear that their dog was a mutation from a normal litter and not an inbred freak.)

When I first saw this little thing coming, I thought it was a Pap, but up close, it was very distinctly a tiny, tiny sheltie. She was also the cutest thing I think I have EVER seen. So, I can see why people would want minature Shelties, unfortunately. However, back to the point, it was pretty unmistakble what this little dog was.

All dogs are beagles.
We were at my brother in law's place for a birthday party this weekend. He's got a 2 year old coon hound (he gave me the full name, but I didn't get it - something about it treeing it's pray). Anyway, there were about 70 people there and I don't know how many people asked "is that some kind of beagle mix?"

Eddie,I believe the "Beagle" in question is a Treeing Walker Coonhound like Uncle Fred. See above
Yup, that's the name he said. From your pics, that'd be about what "Penny" looks like. Similar coloring as well. Penny is about 46 pounds, they tell me, if that helps get an idea of her size.

Uncle Fred weighs around 75 lbs, but the bitches are a bit smaller, and I've heard of some as light as 40 lbs.

We get so many "giant beagle" comments that one of his nicknames is "Megabeagle"

Some people like their hounds on the smaller side and breed them that way. Something about being more agile and faster to the tree--I don't hunt, just what I've heard. Marlowe's only 55 lbs and honestly he could stand to loose 5. People who are used to the larger hounds always think he's a pup but if you look at the pictures from the UKC bench shows you'll see there's a fairly broad range of sizes and there's plenty just as small as Marlowe, and plenty more the size of Uncle Fred.

Yes, His Fredness is 26.5 inches at the shoulder, and actually light for his frame. I have quite a time keeping weight on him. Bitches officially start at 22 inches, and some competition hunters are smaller. The proper size for a hunting coonhound is a popular topic on the coonhound boards.
