I got one of the vets at work to very reluctantly agree to let me do a trial of thyroid medication for Cajun. I had her bloodwork results sent to Dr Dodds for interpretation, and I don't know that I necessarily believe everything from her, but I just so badly want an answer, and so badly want to be able to rule out hypothyroidism. And I was also of the belief that, if even Dr Dodds would think she doesn't need medication, then that means her thyroid is for sure not the problem!! ;) (For anyone not familiar - Dodds is controversial and many believe she'll find a way to diagnose every dog with hypothyroidism).

So, there was a lot of mumbling about Dodds being a quack, and making things up, and her trial dose is so low that she's probably just going for the placebo effect, etc etc etc. But I.... don't care. :p

So here we are with our 8 week trial. The compromise is that I am not allowed to do anything else that could potentially improve her condition - no new meds, no new food, no supplements, no new shampoos, etc.
Good luck! I'm really interested to see if this helps her. Hope you have answers soon!

I have heard that about Dr. Dodds, BUT I've also known of a few dogs who have really improved on her protocol when their normal vet said they were fine. So I feel a trial can't hurt :)

NOTHING J-Roc does makes me madder than when she is begging to go potty and waits until the poop is almost out of her before she'll stop and squat. 20 mins of standing in the rain while half-way demanding and pleading that she goes potty that very instant is a serious buzzkill. J-Roc will sniff the ground and act like she has every intention of going potty. Then as she starts to squat she'll spot a stick/bug/blade of grass and will grab for it, then immediately forgets that she ever had to poop. Thus starting the entire cycle all over again once I get her to drop the stick/bug/blade of grass.

Yes. Aeri still sometimes has these moments where she needs to go but can't find the perfect spot and it usually happens when I'm late for a client appointment (of course). DRIVES ME CRAZY!

Ru is another procrastinating pooper. First he has to sniff the entire yard, then he has to find exactly the right spot, and then he has to turn in exactly three circles. If anything interrupts this sacred ritual, he must start over. Interruptions can include sounds, smells, blades of grass touching his hairless undercarriage, slightly uncertain footing, and the position of the stars.

His ritual for laying down is similarly complicated, but even more prone to interruption because my lap is harder to balance on. Sometimes he'll circle for a good five minutes if I don't get tired of being walked on and smush him down.

This dog is absolute perfection: https://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/30285948/

A Chazzer must adopt him.
He looks so happy in that last picture. Pure hug bliss. Someone go get him and love him forever.

My news: I'll have a temporary puppy this weekend! Picking up one of the boys from my breeder's current litter to do some training with him for a couple of days. :) I'm really excited to see how a puppy fits into the household, and see what the boys think.

Brisbane and I are going to a herding trial next month! Today was our second lesson and the instructor said she doesn't normally push students to trial so soon, but that Briz already has the skills to get his first two titles so we might as well get started. Yay Briz! We're actually competent at something!

Gimmick's first agility class was a win! He did almost everything asked of him (needs to work on revving himself up and running to the food. He just kind of stood there and looked confused). But he didn't shut down once! I think this is going to be a great thing for him.

The only hiccup came when he got a little overly interested in the dog next to him. Come to find out she's in heat! :yikes: . He got his focus back, though, and did really well for the rest of class.

So we had a first day in a brand new class, in a new building and a bitch in heat and he still did fantastic. God I love this little man.

Bonus- We had a Silken Windhound in the class. She's the first I've seen IRL, and she was stunning. I talked to her owner after class, while both of our dogs did the Sighthound Shuffle around each other. I can see myself being interested in the breed in the future.

Why is it, with dog people, "breeder folk" are allowed to be passive aggressive towards rescues, but "rescue folk" aren't allowed to be passive aggressive towards breeders.

If someone says, "well, I wouldn't get a dog from a rescue because I don't want to deal with someone elses problems" everyone claps and hallelujahs.

But if someone says "well, I wouldn't get a dog from a breeder because I prefer to save a life" then everyone tells them to get off their high horse and stop being snobby.

Wut?

I have a rescue, my next dog is going to be from a breeder. I love both, and don't think one is better than the other. It is just super annoying.

Went to the park with Talon and as I drive up I see a guy with an of leash bully breed playing with a chuck it. I decided to just go to the other park but because of the time there was a bunch of kids there. So I go back and leave talon in the car to see if his dog is under control enough to play in the opposite side of the park, our at the least let him know someone I's waiting. (This is an on leash or under control type area)

So I walk up to him and is pretty obvious by how far his dog runs to say hi to me that the guy has little to no control. But I do my spiel anyways. I treo him I wanted to exercise ny fog across the park but he doesn't like strange dogs running up to him and if his dog would stay on his side. He flash out says he has no control, that his dog will be fine the moment it sees another dog. But that he'll be leaving soon. So I thank him and walk away.

I appreciate his honestly at least, most of the other people I've encountered and fine the same spiel with always "oh...umm.....I'm sure it would be fine....." which is why I always watch for a bit, stay near the car Werth the door open just in case. But as much as his honesty was nice, who brings a dog they have no control over to a that's not fenced park off leash.

Then when he went to leave he opened the door to his truck and had to throw the ball a few times as he would dive at the dog when it brought the ball back. He finally caught the dig by traveling him. Seriously, the guy was on top of the dog, holding onto its collar until he got it on leash. Then drags the dog into the car.

People amaze me in the worst ways sometimes.

Got bombarded by two super large off leash dogs today on our walk, no owner in sight. As soon as I saw them I dove over Harlow and made sure neither of them could get close. She didn't react at all! I was super proud of her. Don't think the owner was pleased to see me shoving his dogs away when he finally showed up, but seriously? Not my problem.

Just a fun video of Hank fetching at the park. I had to get a video of him running full out.
