I feel like a jerk now. I wanted to try him at a daycare type place during certain work days but I think I'm going to wait to give him some time to settle back in. I'm pretty surprised since he's usually so easy going and confident. He was slightly nervous at the shelter but once I got him out of the run he perked right up and was unfazed. At the boarding place they said he could not handle the dogs barking in the other runs. That shelter he was at was set up with similar size runs and it was so loud. I am sure spending a month in there is part of why he handled the boarding so poorly.

He also couldn't do the group play sessions I signed him up for because he was too nervous. Poor guy. :(

Talk to the daycare about him. I know when we get dogs who are unsure, we can set up much smaller groups, or even only a few hours where he just gets to know that staff and the setting before any play is done. I usually sacrifice Gimmick to the shy ones, because he's so gentle and unassuming that everyone likes him.

It's like Cajun is developing an off switch right before my eyes <3

She's chosen to lie down and relax more times in the last 3 days than she has in the entire almost year we've had her. We haven't even been terribly active the last few days - cold again - so it's even more impressive.
I try to capture calm moments and reward them, but they happen so infrequently that I don't think anything is now "sinking in" because I haven't done much... could this finally just be something that is now happening?! :yikes:

So I bought a treadmill today, mostly for the family, but for the dogs on occasion too.

Just for fun I got Cobain up on it.

His opinion is that the stupid humans use it backwards, and it's much more fun to jump on the wrong side and ride it to the end...repeatedly.... ridiculous dog lol

Probably helps that it's over 3 hours from here. If that showed up at the shelter here I'd be down there already haha.

I want this week to be over.

One of my good friends dog might possibly have cancer and I'm worried shitless for him.

And Takoda has to go to the vet Friday due to three tumors popping up in her mouth, I'm hoping she doesn't have cancer.

I ****ing hate this week.

Fable's vet check went very well yesterday. She was really good to this enormous and out of control (albeit friendly) GSD in the waiting room, and was loving on all the techs. She's been keeping a good weight at 42 pounds, and vet said she is healthy as a horse. She was really scared in the exam room and let out a few tiny growls, but she got over it and was really good for the rest of the time. She only gets scared in the exam room though, and is really outgoing in the lobby, which makes me happy. She also got her very first vaccinations while in my care, and she didn't even flinch. Overall she was a good girl and I'm really proud of how far she's come.

Went to the pet expo today to get Chloe to interact with some more (carefully chosen) kids and meet a friend to let her borrow some of my books and DVDs.

We happened to get on the conversation that neither of our dogs has never peed in a store. What does Chloe do later on in the store? She pees! :yikes: why???? She peed after smelling a spot where other dogs have peed, which she has smelled spots like these probably a thousand times, or at least hundreds, and never peed on them.

Also got her a new tag that says "princess of barkness" and of course today she barked quiet a bit, but thankfully was using her quieter bark lol.

In other news she did FANTASTIC with doing tricks with all the distractions of people, dogs, etc. she did play dead, heeling, sits, downs, stays, leg weaves-enthusiastically!, high fives (including high fiving some kids!), spins and turns, sit pretty, lots of focus on me, look at that game, etc.

Various people would come over and ask things like "is she akc trained?" Or asking if I go to classes with her, which I don't- but would like to go to more (only did one agility foundations to get more obstacles to train on to build her confidence and socialize her around other dogs and people)

anyway one guy, the one that asked if she was akc trained, came over later and said his dog wanted to play as he is fastly moving toward Chloe and I am holding on to her as she is lunging at them and he asks if she is nice, I said no she isn't dog friendly all the time. And he kept coming closer and his dog was like on top of her so I let the leash go slack (I was also in a corner type area and didn't really have room to move (although we were pressed up against an isle as he was approaching..) since I thought that would be better than having it tight. And he's like oh well my dog is friendly so he shouldn't give off bad vibes.
Grrr people make me so angry at times. Chloe didn't bite his dog, so I gave her lots of treats. But she doesn't really understand dog behavior I don't think, and can be reactive.

But overall I think the training went well, could have been better, but this was probably the most enthusiastic about doing tricks in front of a lot of distractions she has done!

I broke it again.

I was in the kitchen eating dinner and had to be stealth-like to snap this.

I threw her a tater tot afterward.

Also, the stuff on her leg is because she's disgusting and eats the cat litter - and then I guess when she licks herself, her fur gets crusty clay in it. Blech.

I had a dream last night that a slug was crawling up my leg. Woke up and realized Hank was licking my leg for god knows why.

I dont feel so bad now for having a gross dog, Lincoln eats poop, not his, other's poop (dogs included) hes not as bad as he used to be, he used to follow the other dogs around (YUCK!). Now, if I see one of them poop, and I cant get to it to pick it up right away (our yard is almost 2 acres so I do my best to keep it picked up, but I do miss some at times). Luckily he only seems to like ... uh ... "fresh" .... so if I can distract him long enough (usually with play or a walk), he forgets about it and doesnt do it.

At least he seems to be kind of growing out of it ... I hope LOL.

Having an ACD with a docked tail does NOT make it an Australian Stumpy Tail Cattle Dog. They are completely separate breeds with different structures, coloring, and temperaments! ACD's aren't even supposed to have docked tails. I always try my best to educate people on the difference, but I can only take so many stupid people.

Funny enough, stumpy tails are usually longer than docked tails.

I used to always assume everything with a docked tail was intentionally bred, until I heard someone say "The mom is a lab/hound mix, and I thought the dad looked kind of like a boxer when I saw him jump over my fence and run away, so I went ahead and had the puppies docked." Well ok then.
