Fantastic idea. There's still time to run out and grab some tonight. And thanks for the sympathy.

I mean I have to be impressed, the girl is obviously smart and persistent. She figured out the crate latch itself in what, less than two days? I just wish it didn't come at my expense.
Welcome to having a cattle dog (or mix of), that was the reason Izze could never be crated, was she would to exactly that. And she would hurt herself sometimes getting out! On top of that, once she got out she would destroy everything ... like she was mad or something lol, when i just left her out she wouldn't.

Thank you. I'll get over it, it's only stuff...trying to tell myself that at least! At least neither dog got hurt, that's the important thing. I was worried that she swallowed something, I'll keep an eye on her but she passed normal stool when I took her out, and the way the stuff is destroyed looks like she ripped a bunch up without consuming it.

And thanks. The empathy and hugs are worth an awful lot right now :)
Ah geez, that's no fun. Sorry that happened and you lost things that were important to you, glad she seems ok. Really disappointing to have that happen on top of all the issues!

Feist thinks she is going to give birth. She will not stop trying to turn my bed into a nest, and she has serious boobs. Somebody save me.

I came home to a loose dog. She got out of her crate again - somehow. I don't know how she's doing this! She figured out the latch when she nailed Astro, so I tied the latch shut and she undid that too.

She destroyed so much. My entire apartment is in shambles. Priceless things I'll never be able to replace...fortunately Astro was crated behind a door and she hasn't figured out how to open those (yet).
I don't have any advice for you. I wish I did, though.

So sorry that happened to you,& that your having so many issues. Though, I'm glad she's ok. I really hope she works out with it.

I use a biner to latch Scout's sad crate. Its sad because I reinforced it so she couldn't undo the latches and well yeah that didn't stop her. So I kinda made the executive decision that I'm okay with her being able to get out without hurting herself. Lol, probably not helpful eh?

We're to the point now though where anything I care about it where she can't get to it and she only ever shreds her leash or my shoes (I miss my tevas :( )... it is really rare now though, like once or twice a year now?

I am always always working on crate games to up the value of the crate. Helps a LOT. I also do it with my bedroom door, the front door, and the vehicles. Smart dog with low impulse control thresholds needs many little tasks.

My girl specifically has SA related to me and my other dog (to a lesser extent other dogs/people she has bonded to) and some general anxiety, but I'm pretty sure she'd still be a handful without that because she is creepy smart.

She also let Lily out once. That was insane. And she can open the bathroom door to creep on me.

Smart dogs are really fun to train though! I sure hope things even out and you can enjoy her more! Many vibes for progress! Hopefully its just having a big life change that she's responding to.

Scariest 10 minutes ever.

We're sitting around talking and Crossbone is working on a raw marrow bone that we picked up from the butcher this evening. All of a sudden he yelps and runs off with the bone. I call him and he runs over to me, climbing into my lap---which is unlike him with a bone. The bone is stuck on his lower jaw.

I'm like, "OH MY GOD THE BONE IS STUCK ON HIS FACE. WE NEED TO GO TO THE EMERGENCY VET AND IT NEEDS TO BE SAWED OFF RIGHT NOW."

As Ken & our friend Bean approach, Crossbone starts freaking out and thrashing around.

I get him away from them and he calmly was shoving the bone in my face, asking me to help him and was being really really cooperative.

After minutes of manipulating it and it not budging, I was ready to take him to the E-vet down the road. I could see sedation, broken teeth, more vet hate, hundreds of dollars and a sleepless night in our future.

Ken bends over close to get a better look, Crossbone flails out of my arms and flings the bone across the room. Then immediately tries to go after it.

*sigh*
We threw the marrow bones away and will not be doing that again! Eek!

I reallyyyy need to stop underestimating Juno. It's like whenever I think she can't/won't do something, she goes and does it super fantastically. Unfortunately I think I have a habit of letting her anxiety stop us from trying things ("she's going to be way too stressed/nervous for that"), the reality of the thing is that her anxiety is really not that debilitating and I need to just knock it off and give things a whirl with her. Because she's awesome.

On the one hand Hank just learned sit in like 5 seconds. It was pretty amazing. Maybe more like a minute but still.

On the other hand he is a marker. Ugh. And Mia hates him. He cannot so anything without her growling at him. An someone convince Mia he is okay? I am keeping them apart at the moment and keeping a gate up. He just comes at things very confrontational and it seems to scare her. I'm hoping the two figure each other out. I'll be bummed if it doesn't work. I think if it doesn't in going to have to go back to puppy plans.

But really Mia is gonna hate whatever dog I bring in. I can guarantee that.

Hank is a very high drive dog though and that is a different set of challenges.

Mia will adjust. Harlow hated Rider when we brought him home. He was inappropriate and socially awkward. They are best buddies now. Rider hated Tulsa when we brought her home. They are best buddies now.

Harlow hated Lucy, Story, Finn, and Seal when we had them. Everybody grows on her after about two weeks.

Just give it time.

Abrams is why we can't have nice things.

We're staying with my friend while we're in Indiana and her house is so nice. She is a dog person (and loves Abrams), and has a dog, but her dog is a calm dog. In just this morning alone, the rugs he's overturned, the hair he's gotten everywhere, and the grass he's tracked in from outside is slightly embarrassing. He's not even being *bad*, he's just being...Abrams.

You dog. You are why we can't have nice things.

Hank is likely still stressed out and as Meagan pointed out I don't know many dogs that just "click" from day one of living together. I've seen dogs that can get along, but they still take a few weeks to understand each other.

If I were you, I would give Hank a couple weeks to settle in and get used to the routine and have supervised interactions with the girl. After Hank gets more adjusted to what life with you is, I would then really work on the introductions over another couple of weeks.

He's likely a little extra crazy due to the stress of getting put in a kennel at a rescue and then taken to a completely new house with new people and new dogs, plus I'm sure he never got too much interaction or training. So all of that needs to be worked on as well. After a few weeks I would be very surprised if he didn't start to settle down a little bit.

or no.... it's horrible, if he's not working out right away you should just send him over here. :p ;)

Might be making a drive to CT to pick up a puppy in a few weeks.

I have to say its so much easier just to be a breeder and breed your own :rofl1: Or have friends who breed what you want.

I disagree. Because he should come to my house. Because obviously I need more Cattle Dogs in my life.

my herding dog addiction may get me served one day. lol!
