I know we Chazzer's all love our dogs but I was wondering if anyone has ever experienced a time when you were the victim of a dog bite?
I'll start :) I was 12 years old and was with my 22 year old aunt going to her friends house to pick her up. We entered the property and were unaware that we were about to come face to face with a very unhappy male GSD. The driveway was very long and there were many cars in the driveway because her dad was a mechanic. Anyway, we parked, got out the car and all of a sudden this GSD came at the both of us snarling and growling :yikes: He pinned me up against a car and bit the side of my stomach and my aunt in the @ss. Luckily, my aunts friends dad was in the garage and called the dog off and put him away. My aunt was okay and I had minor bruising and a little skin breakage from the bite. Kind of ironic when we always had GSD's at my own home for years. It was the only breed I knew of growing up besides an occassional mutt. That experience didn't ruin me though obviously and I went onto working with dogs as a groomer/vet tech when I got older ;) I have been bitten grooming though, once by a rottweiler and the other time by a chihuahua and guess who bit me the worst.........................Yup, the Chihuahua

So how about you?

I got bitten by the nastiest Pomeranian on earth. Twice. And the second one was memorable. Nasty little thing. I cringed at that thread where the 9 lb dog bit the lady and the owner thought it was just a "little thing". Let me tell you, when a small dog wants to bite, he can hurt you. Ouch, I can still feel that little Chit's bite on my leg. I wanted to hurl that dog clear into the next town. It was close, too.

I also got bitten on the nose by some mutt when I was about 10. My face was black and blue for a week.

I should add that the Pom is long dead and I still hate him.

I've been bitten one time, by a Chocolate Labrador.
There was no intentional. provocation, but, the dog was very old, very sick, and probably very annoyed I had bent down to grab his food dish, and he was standing next to me wagging his tail as best he could, and walked close up to my face and just snapped. It wasn't painful at all and afterwards he seemed very thankful when I put his water dish back.
A few weeks later, he passed on.

That's the only time I've ever been bitten, and I prefer dominant breeds. It confuses some people that the only dog that's ever bitten me in my life of owning dogs was a Labrador, given the breeds I choose.

ETA: I was about 7 or 8 when this all happened.

I've never been severely bitten, but I was bitten by a Golden when I was about 11 or so and I don't really know why. I didn't do anything to her - I was petting my own dog at the time about 4 feet away from where the Golden was and all of a sudden she lunged and grabbed my arm. It only resulted in a couple small puncture wounds, nothing major, but I think it was totally uncalled for as did everyone else who saw it. I've also been bitten by a Doberman that I was dog sitting, but it wasn't intentional. She just had no manners/training and tried to grab a treat out of my hand before I said she could and ended up taking my hand with her. Again, it wasn't major and she knew she did something wrong instantly. It wasn't her fault that she hadn't been taught to take things a bit nicer. perhaps that last one doesn't even count as a bite, but I added it anyway, as it did break skin.

Yup I''ve bitten bitten before, comes with the job of working with dogs :D

Two bites (years apart from eachother) occurred whilst out on the farms when I would accompany my dad to work (he''s an AI technician). The one dog LOVED adults but was TERRIFIED of kids so the second I stepped out of the truck he came barreling out of the barn and bit me just under my right eye. The second one was a dog doing nothing more than protecting his farm from strangers. He grabbed my arm and didnt bite too hard but just enough that I couldn''t get away and held on until the farmer told him we were ok. Niether were serious, the first one barely broke the skin as I used my arms to shield myself. Both of these incidents were before I turned 7 years old. Since then from what I can recall I havent gotten anything more than tiny warning nips. You just never know how those darned farm dogs are gonna react! And I never know how someone else''s dog is going to react when they call me in to help train him and I come to meet both dog and owner. If I get bit...oh well...it happens...wont stop me from loving dogs or working with them!

Let me tell you, a cat bite can bring you to tears. I got bitten once by a cat by accident. My first cat was goofing around in a large paper bag behind me and I backed up. When my leg hit the bag, he saw it as some prey out there on the other side of the bag. he sunk his teeth into my leg and grabbed, and I really needed to see a doctor after that one.

Twice that actually broke the skin.

The first when I was house-sitting for a nasty little Rat Terrier. She was crated when I arrived, armed with roast beef. I had patiently lured her a couple of feet out of the crate, over about 30 minutes, constantly dropping little pieces of beef. I finally tried to hand her a piece myself, which she took, dropped, and then grabbed my hand. 3 punctures and a very sore nail with some blood under it. By the end of the week, I couldn't keep her off my lap:rolleyes: .

The second when I was hiking with a friend and a group of about 8 or 9 dogs. A fight started between two, a golden and a Berner. We were both taught not to get in the middle of a fight (this was at work), but the golden had the Berner's eyelid, and it looked like there was going to be some real damage. We grabbed for collars, and both managed to get punctured before breaking up the fight. Of course, both dogs were completely fine.

I've been bitten on the arm by a Mastiff when attempting to help a little girl in 4-H train her dog.

I've been bitten by my own dogs when breaking up fights.

And that's about it. I've managed to never get bit by a dog when grooming the many dogs I do for people in my town.. something I'm proud of, considering some of their temperments!

2 bites and 1 almost death :yikes:

First bite was me at age 10 by a Chi mix got a couple deep puncture wounds just above my ankle.

second bite was age 17 by a Great Dane (I know weird combo with first bite) I was wrestling with a girl friend of mine over a Frisbee, he Great Dane got excited and bit me in the back of the neck and shoulder blade. Dog was only half serious, so I still here to tell you the story :D

My near death experience was when I went to a neighbors house on the way to a friend's house. The family had two sibling St. Bernards. One was very friendly and one was not at all. They always had the friendly one chained outside and the mean one inside. I was about 6 and would stop to sit in the grass and pet the friendly one for a while before going over to my friend's house. I had done this countless times. One day, I stopped as always to pet my "buddy" when this Huge dog ran at me and the chain tightened just at the last second....the family decided to chain the mean one out for the day :yikes: Had the chain broke or I had been 3 feet closer I believe I would have died that day.....needless to say I never stopped again :( That event was scarier to me that the two bites I mentioned earlier.

That happened to the woman who used to work with me in the shop I used to run. An owner brought in two himilayian cats to get there nails cut and one of them bit her right on an artery in her wrist. I had never seen anything like that and never want to see it again! Blood spraying out of her wrist and I almost passed out! She was in alot of pain and was taken to the ER and was given antibiotics. She was out of work for awhile to. Cats have a pretty potent syliva so when they bite you can have problems......scary!

Red, I believe it about the pain. My bite was on my lower calf and I'm telling you I nearly fainted from the pain. But an artery! WOW!

Once by an intact male Rottweiler. I was around 11 or 12 and was building something out of dirt with my friend. I went to reach for a pile of dirt right in front of where their male Rottie was laying and he instantly grabbed ahold of my wrist. It left marks but didn't break skin. I believe I stayed out of his territory after that.

Many times, never as an adult or as a trainer....well, maybe once..sort of.:p

The first time was when I was about 5 years old. My sister and I used to wait until my mom went to work and then we would go and get our favorite neighborhood dog, Sam (an irish setter), and bring him into the house before school. Our dog Fritz, a little dachshund had died and we were desperate for doggie friendship.
I remember everything about that day. I put my parka over my pj top and went to get Sam. On the way home, something went wrong. What seemed to start out as play turned into something else. Sam first started to tug on my coat sleve, he got me on the ground and then really started to yank me around. By the time someone stopped their car to help me, Sam had me completely out of my coat and had bitten my back and dragged his canines down my arms. The man took off his belt and to my horror, he started hitting him to get him to let go of my coat. Sam was euthanized. My sister and I were heartbroken. Everyone told us that Sam had gone crazy. I wish I go back there now as an adult and find out what really happened. Things were different then. Dogs were left to roam while their owners went to work and Sam was always easy to find. I wished for years that I had just left him alone that day....actually I still wish I had.

The second bite was a little beagle. He was dumpster diving and I rudely interrupted him. He started to growl and I backed away but he bit my wrist. I was about 7 years old and still just as dog dumb.;) A neighbor took me to the hospital where I got about 6 stitches.

The last time was when I was about 13. My friend had a large (standard) cockerpoo named Nicky. I LOVED that dog so much. We were doing dishes and I went to pick up a bowl that had been given to Nicky with a bit of ice cream in it. He bit me in the face...badly. I needed several stitches inside my mouth (his bottom jaw went inside my mouth) and more stitches on my cheek where his top teeth went. My friends mom beat the living daylights out of him while I screamed and tried to get her to stop. That incident was just horrible and left me hating my friends mom and desperate for Nicky's forgiveness....I really thought it was my fault. Of course if wasn't.

Oh, and one pretty funny "bite", more of a gumming attempt. A very old poodle during a private training session was so pissed off that he missed when trying to bite my hand, that he went for my boob. The man who owned the dog was mortified, we all had a good laugh and Mr. snottypoo was promptly put on a proper program.:)

When I worked at Petsmart in the salon I got mouthed and softly bitten my many dogs, but the only dog to ever break skin was a Pom. We were liberal with muzzles in there, so bite incidents were pretty rare.

I have to agree with ToscasMom, cat bites are horrible. One of the worst was when I had my cat Quincy at the vet and was holding him on my lap. The build up of stress was too much and he snapped, sinking four teeth into my forearm. Needless to say it got horribly infected and I had scars for years.

So far I've been lucky and nothing terribly serious, but right before Christmas this year a hellion of a Lhasa Apso tore open two of my fingers when I opened the door to her room. She had to jump two feet to get to my hand to bite, but by golly she did. I'll always have a small scar from that one.

The only other ones to really break the skin by was one other little dog (either a Shih Tzu or a Lhasa, don't remember) and a crazy-ass moose-eared Lab mix that got my hand when I was trying to get my glove back from another dog. She just dove in, teeth flying. Broke the skin, but nothing a little Neopsorin and a band-aid couldn't fix.

Had a pug bite my finger the other week...just pinched but I was surprised nonetheless. I didn't even know she had teeth...I was wrong.

My uncle's GSD tore up my arm pretty good a little while back.. that is the only real bite I have ever had. The arse attacked my arm when I went to knock on my Uncle's door! Ripped my jacket, got slash marks all down my arm, and a nice scar too!

Yes at the age of 5 I was attacked by the neighbors GSD. The owner beat it off me with a broom and my father grabbed a shovel and beat it nearly to death. End result is that I lost most of the vision in my right eye and had many bites requiring many stitches. At the age of 14 again a friends GSD who had been around me a lot for no reason attacked me when I was leaving and bit my leg and arm. My son and daughter were both bitten by friends GSDs and that is the main reason I do not care for them. I owned one once myself and at the age of two years for no reason it bit my neighbor. Shortest amount to time I ever owned a dog. Just do not care for or trust the breed. Even now when I have a rescue if it is a GSD I refuse to handle it and will not home one with children.
