And pitbull folks wonder why they have a bad reputation!
Let's start out with the basic disclaimer - yes I know they're not all bad, blah blah blah - but I met a nasty one this morning - INSIDE MY HOUSE.

I wake up to my dogs going nuts in their crates. Then I hear my oldest child scream and run into his room. I went to investigate, and was chased back into my room by a little red pitbull and his/her blue pit buddy. The blue pit was actually fairly friendly, but the red one not only tried to attack my son, but came after me! :yikes: Yes you read it right, IN MY HOUSE.
So the little puke has me and my kids pinned in the bedrooms, and I can't get to my phone. So I grabbed a curtain rod and my 9mm. I really didn't want to have to shoot it (to be honest, I couldn't care less if I had killed it this morning, but was more concerned with where the bullet would end up after exiting it), but I had to literally beat it out my back door with it snarling at every step. I get it out the back door and slam it, grab the phone and call animal control.
Who still hasn't showed up, and they dug their way out from under my fence and took off and terrorized another neighbor 2 doors down. They had to have come through the back yard, none of my gates were open though, so they either dug under or jumped it.

Ugh, if I ever see it in my yard/house again, I have a 9mm with it's name on it.

Holy ****.

That's terrifying. I'm glad your kids and your dogs are okay. That dog needs to be PTS. . .

That's not good at all, Ash :( How did it get IN your house? Getting a door between your kids and you and that dog was good thinking on your feet.

I'm glad your dogs didn't get engaged. They could have gotten badly hurt very easily.

Dogs don't try to bite. They just bite, esp a pit. Either somebody has been rough playing with the dog, or it isn't socialized. I hope AC can catch them. When they do there will be a paper trail. You might want to make a statement to the police, just to add fuel.

Yes it "tried" to bite - as in it came at me and I baseball bat style whacked it in the head with a curtain rod. It WOULD have bitten me if I didn't have something to beat it off with.

Yes it does, after escaping my yard it went and tried to bite one of my elderly neighbors, who came over to ask me "I hope those aren't your f'ing dogs" - It's been a bad morning and animal control hasn't even gotten here yet, it's been 2 hours.

They got in my house through my back yard, they dug under my fence (found the hole) and came in the back door, which I leave open to keep the house cool and so the dogs can go out - except I had them crated up last night because Lestat barks and annoys my neighbors.

Exactly, thinking back, I should have saved everyone the trouble and put a bullet in it then and there, too bad I was concerned with ricochet or where it would end up. :(

Wow that's quite the wake-up... you can't be expected to put bullet holes in your house and like you said, it could've ricocheted, and I don't know if you have carpet. But if it comes back in your yard I totally agree, game over. The absolute last thing the breed and the general population needs is an aggressive pit bull at large.

That p*sses me off, now the neighborhood is going to think pit bulls are viscious because some idiot let his aggressive dog run loose and terrorize everybody. I'm so glad you, your kids, and your dogs are unharmed though, could have been a lot worse if the dogs had been loose.

No I don't have carpet where it was at, it's tile. You're right, game over if it comes back for sure. It's a 9mm, they have quite the penetration (from my experience the same pistol has put a hollow point like I had in today through 3 walls and a door frame before it stopped)
The blue one was cool, he was watching his partner in crime go after me, but he just hung back because I was watching him too to see if they were going to gang up on me. The neighbor reported the same thing, that the red one tried to take his hand off and the blue one was mellow and friendly.

Just a scary situation. I hope AC caught them, they haven't called or showed up and it's been 3+ hours now. I bet they and the cops would have showed up if I had cranked a round into it though, ugh.

You have more guts than me, you'd be lucky to get me to open a door if I know a stinkin' bee is on the other side, let alone a dog that would very much like to bite me!

Hope he gets caught and they can euth him humanely :(

How scary! I would've called 911, though... if dangerous animals are an imminent threat to you and your children, sounds like an emergency situation!

That is horrifying! I'm so glad that none of you were hurt and that your dogs were crated. Will AC let you know if the dogs are captured?

APBT people don't wonder why they have a bad reputation- they know it's because of irresponsible owners and breeders.

I can't believe that happened. :yikes: I'm so glad you weren't hurt! That dog, as much as I hate to say it, needs to be PTS. Imagine the kind of damage he could have inflicted on you, your dogs, and your kids if you weren't able to defend yourself. :(

That's horrifying. :( Good call on rational thinking getting the dogs out of there!

I have to say though... seems very unsafe to be leaving your back door open. As was just proven, you never know who or what can come in through an open door overnight. I would open windows and let the dogs hold it.

^This. ESPECIALLY with kids.

Glad all of you are ok, though!

Is this for real?

"Pits" just bite?

I've owned "pits", or more accurately American Pit Bull Terriers, for 13 years and have NEVER had one even so much as attempt to bite someone much less actually make contact. So quit eating the media bullshit. I hear it tastes nasty anyway.

And A, I'm sorry that happened. Honestly, I would've shot them. Those dogs don't need to go back to their owner even if they were the nicest dogs in the world. An irresponsible owners does not need a dog. Period.

But I'm kind of shocked at your statement. We don't "wonder" why "pit bulls" have a bad rep. But it sure isn't because they are vicious, bloodthirsty creatures and that will break into your home in the middle of the day or night and kill you.......like your post implies. We know it is because irresponsible people own them and refuse to obey leash laws and containment laws and bring them to dog parks and heaven knows what else.

I hope these dogs are captured. For everyone's sake.
