The world God (what ever you see God as) created is what the animals are doing. I know that the natural thing is to do it when ever, where ever you can. QUOTE]
Actually if I interpret this correctly it is not the same. Somewhere I read- that only dolphins and humans have sex for the heck of it.

i personally, do not follow any religions. i don't really belief in a god. i know that tnere has to be something more powerful than we know but i am not sure what it is.

i believe religions are used as a control for people. most are based around loving and respecting the other people and animals of this world. some however, don't follow this, satanism or whatever. yet, this is still a control. thats why i am not religion.

i think it is a good idea and i respect religion. but i don't follow it.

just my opinion. and yes, i think finding your own sense of morals is just that. you have to find it for yourself

Labbreeder. He does not beleive that sex before marrige is a sin. He is very moral for a man though. When we got together he was very clear on the fact that he is faithful to one woman only.

In general - I do not think that quoteing the bible makes the point you are trying make right. It just shows that you can read. I do not feel that monogomous sex inside of a relationship is sinful. So therefore to me, I am not commiting any sin.

I forget who asked but the other silly things to me are swearing, smoking, partying etc. Everything that has no impact on others but that is considered "sinful" I think were put in place to control.

I do think that most of the 10 commandments are a good outline to live you life by.

Thanks for all the replys. It is very interesting.

Ashlea, you should read "Mere Christianity". I think it would really help to educate you. I know it did me. :)

I am sure it would be interesting Tessa. One thing I know for sure is that God did not write the Bible, man did. I will never subscribe to the Dogma. I will trust that He has a will for me and live my life the best I can and try to be a good person. But my morals say that as long as I am not hurting anyone then there is no harm in my actions.

The urges we have serve the purpose of populating the planet, just like dogs, ants and every other creature. When you see half a dozen male dogs surrounding a female in heat, I doubt they are thinking "I need to create another life and be a responsible father". Of course I cant speak for the animals but the young rutting bull elk and other seasonal creatures seem to act a lot like I did in my youth. We arent a scent triggered animal we are more visual but we dont seem as interested in reproducing with those who dont look right to us, just as other creatures may not want to produce with one of their spiecies that doesnt smell right to them.

Buckshot, you would be interested to know that when a woman has ovulated a man can in fact "smell" it. Men are on a whole, nicer to women who are fertile.

I will post this again
What it comes down to is God knows your heart. He knows your unspoken thoughts and unseen actions. He is the judge not people.
He doesnt expect anyone to change over night. He knows the road he calls you to follow is a tough one to follow.

Thats how I see it anyways
If you feel in your heart/concious that what you are doing is wrong then it is wrong. The concious is that little voice that God gave us.
You can quote bible scripture all you want. The thing with scripture is each passage may mean something different to each person and how they interpret it to fit in thier lives and relationship with God.
Take a baby for example. A baby is the purest form of a human. They do not know the difference between right and wrong untill they are conditioned to it.
Each person is conditioned to view right and wrong in different lights or different ways.
Just something to think about

The Bible IS truly the Word of God. Even though God did not literally write the Bible, He inspired it. Once cannot believe in God, if he/she doesn't believe in the Bible.

You're not only in relationship with others, you're in relationship with God, and with yourself, too. So, to judge an action to be moral or not, you'd have to take into account all three: God, yourself, and others. There are many things that one can do to oneself, that may not involve other people, but that doesn't make it moral.

Our body (and other's) is the temple of the Holy Spirit, and we should treat it with utmost respect.

I do believe sex before marriage is wrong. Why? Because when you are married to someone, you are showing that you truly love them and want to be with them your entire life - you are devoted to them. When you're just dating, you don't know if it's going to last. You THINK you're in love, and maybe you are, but many times it doesn't work out, and you go on to the next person. Sure, not all marriages work out either, but by getting married, you are showing that you truly feel you love that person enough to (hopefully) spend the rest of your life with them. Dating isn't that way. You "love" one person, but then, actually, you don't...so you break up and start dating someone else. Then that relationship doesn't work. On to the next person. And so you're just sleeping with all these people you're not actually devoted to?? Come on.

I don't necessarily agree, man takes all sorts of liberties especially when "inspired" by something. Take a look at any hollywood movie base on real life... how close to reality are those. Or John Henry, they wrote songs about him and is quite a legend.

even more simple, tell a kid at one end of the room a simple sentence and have him pass it along and see how its changed by the time it gets to the other end of the room.

Both things are very real, and man being inspired probably added things where they saw fit whether they were under the direction of God or not, they were still human.

And even to this day there are debates on which parts were translated correctly, what the real meaning was, and i feel a good part of the bible was just stories passed down till it was eventually written down, and then going from language to language, i'm sure there were still more changes.

Oh good theology!
Thats the hardest topic of the bible. Have fun with this one because it is based on opinions and many vary.
God should be speaking to you through the scripture. The bible is a tool for God to speak to you. Everyone interprets the bible differently and it can change from year to year what a specific passage means to that person.
Going just by scripture is not how its intended. God wants a LOVING relationship with his people. Its very personal because its between you and God and he is the only one who will be doing the judging. Not any human here has the right to pass judgement although we do it dont we? We like to sugar coat it by calling it opinions and backing it up with scripture. Who are you to say what God is telling anyone? Or how they should live thier lives? Leave that to God and the rest should follow:)

Yes....ideally I do believe that God wants us to refrain from having sex before marriage, but I didn't. I do believe that we should be truly committed to the person before we have sex. What would happen if we weren't sexually compatable and abstained from having sex before marriage, that wouldn't be good either. I guess that's why I'm a sinner, and try as I do, will always be. I love the Lord and do try to live my life the way He want's me to, but I'm always stepping off the straight and narrow.:(

Okay, I am sort of vulnerable here... but I'm gonna share my experience with you guys. If you read it and don't have something decent to say... I would appreciate it if you would just pass it by and not comment on it.

Have you ever been one of those people who are never sure if God speaks to you??? I am definately one of those people. But in the past month I've had two experiences that have led me to believe that he does talk to me.. I just don't listen close enough!

I think he comes to me in my dreams. I'm trying to sort it out.. but here's what happened to me.

When I was having all that trouble with Arielle not too long ago I was praying so hard for him to show me what to do. I told him I was afraid I wasn't doing all I could do and that my judgement was off..etc.

Well, that night when I literally cried myself to sleep.... I dreamed I was lifted up out of my bed and was floating around and around the top of my canopy scared I was going to fall. I remember reaching beneath me trying to feel for a surface to land on. And I remember hearing "don't worry, you will never fall" and yet no one spoke to me in my dream. I thought nothing of it until I really had time to analyze the dream. I really feel it was God telling me that he's picked me up and he's not going to let me fall and to trust him.

Then last night I kept dreaming the same thing over and over. I'd get up and go pee and go back to sleep and dream the same thing. All I was dreaming was someone saying "if you follow me, it can't be a mistake" So, now I am left to anaylze that one. Maybe I've been questioning my faith a lot lately and have swayed from the path I should be on. He's telling me to follow him and it will not be a mistake.

This is some pretty deep stuff for me. Ordinarily I would not share this kind of experience with people, not because I am ashamed, but because I am still learning and so unsure about a lot of things. Don't get me wrong.. I'm not unsure about my relationship I have with God... it's all the stuff that goes with it.

God is love. The core of Christianity is Love. The essense of the Bible is Love. Love God with all your mind, body & soul, and love other people as you love yourself is the fundamental Dogma, the foundation on which one should build his/her life upon.

"God wants a LOVING relationship with his people". Ditto. The Scriptures, Sacraments, Liturgies.. are all tools to help us maintain this loving relationship with God.

Nancy, we often get answers to our questions when we are in a dream state and all of our defenses are down. Sometimes we get those answers from our own wise subconscious, and sometimes - as you did - we get those answers from a far wiser Source, however we choose to identify it.
