Around here, EVO 95% 13oz cans are the cheapest way to feed grain free canned. They come in beef, chicken/turkey, duck, and venison.

Update. Called the vet this morning and she said he did really well over night. They are removing the catheter now. She said if he continues to improve that he might be able to come home tonight. But she did say that since his urine was like sludge that there is a chance he won't come home till tomorrow. It all depends on how he does today and how his urine is. So fingers crossed he does well. Daya is going nuts without her partner in play. The other two cats don't like playing with Daya the way Zen usually does.

Thank you for all your support and well wishes for Zen. It is so appreciated. Can't wait to post pictures of a pain free and healthy Zen when he gets home.

I am crying right now, Doug is crying right now. But it is not because of bad news. Doug called the vet this morning. The vet let him know that there are still a little bit of crystals in Zen's pee. But then he said that he understood that we just can't afford any more treatment. He went on to say that Zen is one of the best behaved cats he has ever met. Very friendly. No crying just a little meow when people go by to get a quick pet. That he doesn't even need to be restrained when having things done. Which I guess is unusual from what was said. He said he could tell that Zen was a very much loved and well cared for kitty and except for this he would continue to be. SOOOOOOO he said that he is keeping Zen for another day and night and he will NOT CHARGE US ANYTHING!!!!! That he will work with him like crazy to help him to be able to come home. I am crying so hard I can't barely type. He said if all goes well Zen should be just fine to come home tomorrow with no added costs except what was accumulated the past 2/3 days. So about $600 or so. We got our miracle. Doug asked the vet if he liked banana bread(people are always begging for my special banana bread) he said he loves it and so does his family. So I am making him a bunch of loaves as a thank you. So continue to send those healing thoughts and hopefully Zen will be home tomorrow.

Got an update. Zen has finally started peeing on his own. The vet seems hopeful that he will be able to come home some time tomorrow if this continues. So now we can relax and enjoy my daughters 15th b-day party knowing he is on the med and coming home soon.

Zen is peeing normally. The vet called and said they took him out, did his check over and after they were done he meowed and jumped off the table and went on an adventure. He is very happy and feeling great. So now he is running around the building. So they called Doug and asked him to come and get him since he is more likely to come to Doug. He is not scared. He is playing a type of tag that he plays with the dogs and sometimes us. lol Which tells me he is defiantely feeling much better. So he should be home soon. Will post pictures when he gets home.

Zen is lost in the vet clinic. I seriously wonder if we are cursed with the worlds worst luck. The vet thinks he some how got into the ceiling. They have lifted out several panels and can't see him. I am worried he some how got out of the building but the vet assures Doug(who is also there looking for him) that the building is totally sealed. They have been searching for over 2 hours now and have no idea where he is. He has eaten well so if he is frightened it could be days before he comes out of his hiding spot. So now instead of healing vibes we need vibes to find him. Another worry of mine is him actually eating something that could harm him. You know all vets have those displays of food and such out. We always keep our animals food in locked bins because the cats will tear open the bags. Uggg.

Good grief! He must be feeling better if he's gone walkabout.

Nicole, do you guys not have Farley Foundation or something similar there? It is a foundation through the OVMA here that provides each clinic $1000/year to put toward a client on disability/unemployment to provide treatment for their pet for non-routine things.

Just got back from the vets office. The vet had stayed overnight hoping he would come out when all was dark and quiet. Nope. I feel bad for the vet. They have pushed up tiles all over the ceiling, lifted up ceiling ducts and so on. We went to see if he would come to us even though I was pretty sure he wouldn't. He ate well yesterday before getting loose and he is in a strange place with strange noises and scents. Plus he is feeling very good now. So as soon as we got there I told them the idea I had of getting a cat trap from the SPCA. They had had the same idea but were not sure if Zen would go into it. I explained that we have crates in our house without doors and Zen goes in them regularly to snooze with Sheena and his favorite place to sleep is of course boxes. Anyway we started calling him at one end of the building. Nothing. They Doug went to the other end and call him. He cried back. So I went over there and started calling him. He started crying and crying. But then the noise was too much as they brought the ladder. I climbed up and stuck my head into the ceiling area and called. He responded but left the area as other people were seeing if they could get closer to his spot and the noise scared him. So he is still up there. But his is ok. So they are getting a cat trap. I told them he most likely will need to get hungry and it will most likely be in the evening when he will come down when the place is dark and quiet. It is a plus that he is used to being schedule fed because his tummy will tell him that this is when he is usually fed. So I suggested putting a tiny spot of food(turkey or chicken is his favorite) on the ceiling tile next to the opening where it is safe for him to come down. They will cover the cat trap with a blanket so it is like the ones at home. I left my coat there for them to put in the crate(was a shivery drive home. lol). THey will put that inside with the food at the back. So the crate will have a scent he is familiar with and the food will help draw him in. So hopefully we will hear back tomorrow morning or the next day that he was caught. So keep your fingers crossed. I let the vet know we are not angry just worried. I asked if they wanted us to pay the bill while we were there and they said not to worry about that right now. They assured me there is no way for him to get out of the building. So that and hearing him helped me know that he is alive and at least ok right now. They are awesome people. They were up on ladders, standing on tubs and tables to try and see him. I kept begging them to not hurt themselves trying to get him out and the vet said not to worry because he is insured. LOL I will update more when I know more.

Doug will be calling them around 9:30 if we don't hear from them. They have both our home number and the house number. I was really stressing but didn't want to show it till I heard him crying back at me. I know his cries and what each means so I know it was him. I do understand that accidents happen and they are defiantely doing all they can to get him out. So trying to stay positive about it till there is a reason to not be positive. So lets hope he went into the cat trap last night. If not he should go in it tonight. We will re-evaluate on Wednesday if he has not been caught by then. I do worry what he could be ingesting and such while up there so will be requesting that they give him a good going over to ensure he didn't eat anything toxic and didn't injure himself. And I expect that evaluation to definitely be free. The ceiling is a false ceiling so they can't go crawling around up there after him because the tiles will not hold a persons weight.

I would be so pissed right now... I hope he gets out of there safely.

My cat, who lives with my mom, has lower urinary tract disease as well. It didn't get quite so bad that there was a ball of crystals backed up into him, but it did cause a nice blockage and some serious ****ing pain. He is on a special diet through the vet now that has helped him nicely.

Good luck with your baby. It's an AWFUL thing to deal with, but not the end of the world. Think of all those poor cats out there who have it and their owners just get angry at the cat for pissing all over the place and throw them into the shelter -_-

Thanks. I have never had a cat have this happen this bad. I have had cats, ones I owned or fostered, get crystals and uti's and the first sign is always they peeing else where then off to the vet they go. No lumps in the tummy or such. And it wasn't too pricy to deal with since it was always caught early. This scared the crap out of us. Zeus and Pax are already on canned food. They have no complaint about it. lol Anyway we had no warning. He kept using the litter box. No adversion to them, no blood in them. Nothing. So I was really surprised that this is what it was since he didn't give the usual sign. I am worrying that he will have another build up of crystals and such and get another blockage because of the lack of water he is getting and no food either.

No lumps in the tummy or such.
The "lump" was his grossly distended bladder, and it happens in any cat that gets blocked. That's one of the easiest ways to confirm they're blocked.

I defiantely know that now. I was so worried it was a tumor or cancer or such. I was very relieved that it was something that was treatable.

Update. Doug called them this morning and he is not caught yet. They have not heard him either. So that is concerning to me but it is a full work day and they are a busy vet practice. So he could simply be trying to be quiet because he is scared. They have the cat trap set up with fresh chicken, sardines and so on along with my coat and a blanket covering the top of it. If he is not caught by tomorrow morning we are going to request to come in the evening when the office is closed to try and coax him down again. One of my biggest concerns is if he is not caught soon, and having no access to wet food and water, he could get another blockage of crystals and stones. And that will cause him to just lay in one spot and not move at all regaurdless of what we do to coax him out. So please keep him in your thoughts that he will come down tonight. On a positive note Zeus and Pax are enjoying the wet food and a huge bonus to that is no more cleaning up dry food from Zeus. Zeus loves to dig all the food out, tossing it everywhere when he eats. So we are constantly cleaning it up multiple times a day. With the wet food he doesn't do that. So that is a plus to the switch. lol
