Good grief. A cat has occasionally (pretty rarely) escaped a table or something at my workplace (usually an angry cat) but everyone usually immediately works to corral and capture it. I can't imagine losing sight of one long enough for it to manage to get into the ceiling

I thought the same thing till I saw the room they had him in. It is an L shape. With large dog runs along one side and desks and tails across from them. Then on the other corner they have the stacked smaller kennels with the large tub and examine table across from them. From what they said they had gotten so used to him being very relaxed and easy to work with. They had taken him out to check him and they put him back in but had forgot something so turned to the table to grab the item. That is when Zen decided to jump out the open door of the cage and onto the shelves that are across and above the table. Then he jumped back across to the top of the cages and nudged the ceiling tile that was loose and jumped into the ceiling. They said he was very fast and they just could not catch him fast enough before he was gone.

Zen was caught in the trap last night. YEAH!!!! So they have him. They are giving him a going over to make sure he has not got any more crystals or issues from the lack of food and water. Doug and Nico are having breakfast and then Doug is off to pick Zen up. We can breathe a sigh of relief now. Will post a picture of the escape artist later today. lol

OMG OMG OMG!!! Zen is home. dirty and very hungry. He is chowing down on the canned food right now. I add extra water to it so it is more of a soup and they all seem to love that. Anyway I asked Doug if he paid the bill and he said when he asked the vet if he could make good on the bill the vet told him to not worry about it. That we get the Escaped Kitty Discount. lol. So we don't have to pay ANY of the bill. Nothing. Plus they sent him home with a whole case of prescription canned food. I know they messed up on him getting loose. But people make mistakes. And they have been so apologetic and working so hard to catch him. There is no way we are changing vets over this. So Zen is now healthy, filling his tummy and no worse for the adventure. Will post pictures this afternoon. Thanks for all the support everyone.

Doug is bringing the vet a loaf of banana bread today and we are making a bunch of them in the next couple of weeks. Got to let the banana's ripen.

He has chowed down at ton and already used the litter box. He must have got his tail caught up there because we noticed they had shaved down a small part of his tail and there is a little scratch. It has obviously been cleaned up. We won't need canned cat food for a while. lol We are giving the prescription canned patte and the canned patte that we bought in the morning with added water. Then in the evening they get the canned shredded turkey or chicken with gravy. So loads of fluids. He has been purring and talking and demanding attention. So Zen is defiantely back. lol

This! When I was younger one of our cats went in to be neutered and they lost him. We never found him, AND they still wanted us to pay the bill!

I am so sorry. That is crazy that they lose your cat completely and they still expected you to pay the bill. We were expecting to pay at least the first 3 days like agreed. The fact they treated him the extra day and night was enough to make up for his escape. But we knew where he was and he was found. I can't imagine how you guys felt.

here are 3 pictures of little mister escape artist.

Here you can see where they shaved his front leg for one of the IV's.

Here you can see where they shaved his neck for the same thing.

Here is the orange escape artist enjoying his canned food.

So glad none of my 3 are fussy eaters. None has had a problem with the sudden change to solely wet food.

If you are trying to get more fluids in him you could try meat baby food-the kind that is just puréed meat and water. It's popular in our house :)

I'm so glad everything turned out OK, and that they didn't make you pay the bill. I've had kitties get in a ceiling before, but never at the vet and never for that long!

I'm so glad he's home. I agree that you're vet is a keeper for taking care of the bill; not all vets would have done the same thing.
