Yes, Diamond had the big recall due to aflatoxin last year. Kirklands wasn't part of the recall, though. (Actually I think I was on Natural Balance at that time.)

I liked Natural Balance . . . Unforunately it didn't agree with my cats, if you know what I mean! ;) I like the fact that they have a duck and potato formula for dogs allergic to chicken, though.

At least I don't have it as bad as my mom; her cat will only eat Friskies. Literally, that's all she'll eat. I was relieved to see Friskies isn't on the Menu Foods list, I don't know what Phantom would do.

My cats like the canned, hate the dry. My dog LOVED the dry. I just didn't feel good about the protein level. So I switched her. She is doing just as well on Canidae and it has a bit more protein. I also notice her poop is much better. It's almost smell-less and ready to disintegrate. Big difference.

I have a friend whose cat also wants Friskies. It's like McDonald's for cats. Isn't it ironic that a crap food like that isn't on the list? Go figure.

PHew, I have been switching Orson and Phoebe around trying to find something that works for both of them........Our latest food (6 weeks into it) is Solid Gold's Wolf King, Bison/salmon. Before this we tried Blue Buffalo sweet potato/salmon, and before that we tried Chicken Soup for dogs..........good for phoebe, but Orson started to get dandruff after a few months.

I am glad to see this on Solid Gold's site.....

MENU FOODS DOES NOT PRODUCE ANY SOLID GOLD PRODUCT

We at Solid Gold realize that customers are very concerned with the recent recall of canned products made by Menu foods. We would like to assure our customers that there are no safety concerns with Solid Gold products. Menu Foods does not make Solid Gold foods in any of their manufacturing facilities. Solid Gold is not subject to the current recall. Furthermore, Solid Gold does not use wheat gluten in any of our dry foods, canned foods, treats, or supplements. Wheat gluten is the suspected cause of the problems involving the recalled food. Gluten is the protein found in grain. Gluten meals such as wheat gluten and corn gluten are included in pet food as a protein source in lieu of meat, which is a more expensive form of protein. Solid Gold believes dogs and cats should receive most of their protein in the form of meat, not grain.
