how did the original question turn into this??? of course everyone thinks their dog is the smartest. and no just because tests show that on average the border collie is the smarest breed in general doesnt mean the tests are entirely accurate. to be totally accurate youd have to test every individual do in the world. thats why its called statistical average. according to the test, the border collie in general is the smartest breed. is it possible every dog owned by a member of this board is as smart as the smartest dog tested??? sure, anythings possible. I havnt been here very long but it seems like there are quite a few members here with extremely thin skin, and they are the ones that turn everything into a fight. grow up people. if you dont like a topic dont respond to it.
Lea, I didn't say what YOU said wasn't making sense, I was pointing out the flaws in the studies and how the people who initiate them work from flawed premises and with incomplete data. I'd like to think that you're someone who doesn't just take things at face value, but look to see how accurate or truthful the information you're being given really is.

If you think about it, to have any statistically average veracity as far as finding the smartest breed, a cross section of every breed would have to be tested. As these tests stand now, they can only claim to have any accuracy in a relatively small group of breeds. To my knowledge, no one has ever done any research on any significant numbers of dogs of each and every breed . . .
And even then, there are so many variables that all you can really count on is that you might stand a better statistical chance of ending up with a canine Steven Hawking by choosing a dog of a certain breed.

It's okay to get angry - just as long as you remember that it's a passing emotion, especially when two - or more - friends are angry at each other. It's easy to misunderstand things on a forum because you can't actually see the person who is responding and they can't see you to see how you are reacting and maybe change their wording until after the anger has already started.

okay, the question was what do YOU THINK is the smartest breed. that was it. no one was going to hold a gun to anyones head if it proved wrong. I think the german shepherd (specifically MY german shepherd) is the smartest dog. see how simple it was to answer the question??? lea wasnt asking for proof. she wasnt asking for you to file a document with the state department declaring "xxx" breed as the smartest there is. its that simple. if you dont have an opinion that is DIRECTLY related to the question then dont post. start a new thread stating how stupid and inaccurate the statistics are.
and yes it is okay to get mad, but there are so many people who get offended over the smallest, stupidest little things. grow up, develop a callus, and stop being whiny little kids. and no I am not aiming that at any of the younger members, its aimed at the members who act like children.
this thread has turned into a fight where everyone is just showing how easily offended they are and everyone is trying to be right. it was supposed to be opinions that answered a specific question, these are ALL opinions that are related in a vague, round about way to the original question. where the heck is admin and/or moderators when they are needed. someone shut this thread down.
