Wooooooow.

I love this! It feels soooo good to see some one on tv, in the public eye, using common sense instead of worshipping CM or pussyfooting around his violent methods. Really great! I find it so real and straight forward, refreshingly so... Not awkward at all. Except for CM's blatent shock, like whaaat? Someone who doesn't just nod and smile at my mindless blabbering?

Interesting turn of discussion !?! (granted I'm still only on pg 21) --- BUT--- hubby and I have had this exact 'eat the dog in starvation' discussion and I already said a LONG time ago that I would not kill her to eat her. If she died first, that's another situation, but nope, not gonna happen here!

I've said before that I would eat my dogs in a starvation situation. The problem is, weighing all the factors. In case of the post-apocalyptic situation in which eating my dog might seem reasonable, I might be better off to keep my dog to hunt food for me and provide protection. Right now, Tess would probably be my best choice for hunting, so I wouldn't want to eat her. But she's spayed, and can't reproduce. So I wouldn't want to eat Pirate either, because I might need to create more dogs. The Staffords are really just right as a post-apocalyptic survival canine companion, since they are small enough to not need too much food, but large enough and drivey enough to be effective for hunting and protection. And they're smart and easy to train. So, I'd want to continue the line.

Am I the only one who doesn't think about eating their dogs when the zombies/aliens/end of the world stuff 'happens'? I mean - the thought of those things happening never even occurs to me. I mentioned to a friend the whole "which dogs would you eat and which would you keep if the zombies come" thread, and she nearly wet herself.

I just...it never even crosses my mind that those things would happen, much less "what dog would I eat"?

I joke about it but really if it comes down to it I couldn't do it. People always say anyone would but really I highly doubt many people could. I'd rather eat bugs first.

That being said I don't think about zombies/aliens/end of the world but something like natural disasters I do think of. Last year? Year before last? I can't remember but there was an insane snow storm here. Up to my waist high snow. My state was NOT prepared for something like this. My power would go out and be out for hours. One day I was able to hike to the nearest store because there was NO food at my house and they were sold out.

Shipments were shut down from coming in and out of the area and it was like that for about two weeks.

The ONLY reason I got to eat was because my neighbors came and checked on me once they realized my dad and brother were stuck out of town. They had food and had their grill going in their garage. My dad lived off of chips from a snack machine because he got stuck at work for about a week and a half.

Obviously it wasn't a 'kill my dog and eat her' situation. But it was really eye opening to how fast things like food and supplies disappeared.

But yeah I don't see myself ever eating my dog. If anything I'll use her to get things I know I can eat like bunnies and birds.

I never think about the apocalypse or zombie attacks. Can't say I understand it at all, lol.
sometimes when I go running in the morning or am losing steam I like to pretend I'm in the hunger games or being chased like Jason Bourne

lol but that's the closest to apocalyptic planning that I get

Well, you wouldn't eat your dogs in a zombie apocalypse, obviously, food would be the least of your concerns.

I think the horses would get eated before the dogs. My dogs are very little though. Not much meat. You could get a lot out of the horses.

But you could use the horses as transportation, and harvest horse hair to make tools or rope. Unless you have a particularly bitchy mare or something, then feel free to eat that one. :p
